Bad Non members beware

I have been buying and selling on here for about 5 months and in the beginning the sellers I spoke to informed me of the unwritten rules (Thanks Matt! @BuckleBuilder ). A couple took a chance on me and I had so much fun, I signed up for a gold membership.

Since then, I've bought/sold/or traded over one hundred knives and I've had an awesome experience along the way. I've had an opportunity to try out some of the coolest knives made without having to shell out full price to a retailer and usually being able to get my money back out of things I ended up not loving.

If you're just here to buy and sell, that's cool but you have to pay your dues. If the seller is an established member offer to pay via f&f to set their mind at ease (and save them a few bucks) since that eliminates the chance of a chargeback. They still may decline but it's worth a shot and doesn't cost you anything. I also breed reptiles and that hobby is full of scammers (both sellers and buyers) so I know how bad things can be.

Remember, these folks work hard for their money and have invested in these knives. They are offering them up on the exchange to pass them along to fellow enthusiasts and to recoup some of their investments. Nobody is here to get rich (trust me, it's impossible) but this truly is an awesome hobby with a great group of members and contributors. I typically can find any knife-related information I'm looking for just by searching the archives and all this info is free! I have also made some great friends through this site all over the world.

With all that said, I'm not sure you're really cut out for this forum if you came here complaining about such a non-event. Deals come and go and I can promise you that you'll find more in the future if you stick around. If you don't, no worries. We'll continue to be the best place on the internet for knife enthusiasts.

Excellent post except for the quoted text below. One should never advise the use of f&f for the purchase of goods. Especially to a newcomer.

Great post otherwise.

I agree that it is not advisable from a buyer's perspective but it is the only way to protect the seller 100% when using paypal. In the reptile world people are constantly having their animals stolen by people claiming that they didn't receive or that the animal wasn't "as described" and paypal just screws the seller.

I have edited the post to reflect the correct method to conduct business to protect the seller.

There is a better way to protect sellers -- accept alternate form of payment. USPS MO, for example. :)

I edited my original post with that info as that is truly the best way and also keeps Peter Thiel out of our transactions. However, in today's world of gotta have it now, people don't want to wait for the mail both ways. Lol

.....and the advent of "PayPal" and the few lesser known type of services, while they have their drawbacks also allow international trade and commerce without much drama at all.

I saw one post where the seller stated "first I'll take it gets it", then one person PM'd & another posted "I'll take it" on the thread. Who gets first dibs? Hell if I know. Seller took the PM as precedence. Reason to get all butt-hert? Nah, patience dear grasshopper. If you shop it, they will come.

I'm honestly not what the point of this thread is. Venting or reassurance? There are a lot of great people on this board but if you fail to have the patience to see that then the common denominator is not the board.

I'm completely disappointed in this group. The members on here seem to only deal with other members. If this is a closed group you should make it a closed group. Non-members are treated rudely and with disregard so why would someone want to become a member.

HiPlainsGrifter today on a knife , sold it to the guy that respi red 2 hrs after me. Never heard from him, and my email was posted. Happened 1 other time also. I did make 1 purchase on here. But 2 outta 3 times were bad experiences.

I'm new to the knife game. Looking to get involved. However as with any new relationship it's how you get treated in the beginning that makes you decide if you're going to stick around or not LOL. Every member on here their feedback started at 0 just like mine. My suggestion would be if members are selling only to members that should list that way. Or the thing to do would be to make the group closed to where you can read only but to interact and send messages you pay a fee and join just like eHarmony LOL.

You aren't going to like hearing this but here goes...

You've been here a hot minute. You don't participate outside of the exchange. You've got no skin in the game. You made this complaint thread over 2 instances you weren't sold to. You insult this community by calling us a dating website.

If you continue this way, many more people will not sell to you.

Quit being butthurt. Apologize. Move on. Participate in a meaningful way. Things will change for you, but you will have to contribute outside of the exchange and hope we forget this little transgression you have made.

Answer: anyone the seller wants for whatever reason. It is in the rules.

Well...
I can see that you have started on the wrong foot here, however it is never too late to make things work for you.
All what was said above by the respected members sums everything and leaves nothing to be added, nonetheless an example always brings reality to the event.
I have been through exactly what you have mentioned at the early phases, it was hard, but it was fair as all discussions and declines fell within the courteous parameters of a conversation, and within the rights of the seller to sell to whom he finds suitable .
Like everything in life you will be building a reputation, slowly but persistently, but most importantly you will be making "buddies and Bro's" if I may phrase it that way.
Soon enough you will be adding months and years to your membership , and you will be visiting this thread with a smile.
Patience my friend, this place is better and bigger than a judgement of 2 purchase trials ;-)

Perhaps it's because no one knows you. You've only posted 8 times in the exchange and three times in this thread. You are a total stranger to sellers, and there's not even an ability to look you up in the forums.

Unlike eHarmony, maybe they're somewhat concerned about getting screwed by someone they don't even know ? ;)

I began my journey here a long while ago...for the first umpteen years, i just read, I didnt even post. At that time i had a membership (unpaid). I received a ton of information, and have a ton of respect for all the members here who didnt even know they were teaching me. I got busy and totally forgot i had a membership here. Over those years i got deeper into knife collecting, in my spare time. I wanted to return to frequenting blade forums. I got a paid membership, and the first few knives i tried to purchase, i was turned down...my responses were polite. After making a few great friendships and participating in discussions (now that i feel i can contribute), i have come to purchase and sell with ease.
I personally dont appreciate a thread badmouthing the members after so little time here. Stick around and it will be enjoyable. And whatever knife you missed out on...i bet another one will be posted for sale. Months and even years go by so quickly here...youll be surprised.
Maybe an attitude check is in order.
Welcome.

Edit: spelling.

It seems you guys missed the point completely. The courteous thing would have been to contact the next person on the list and if you decide not to sell to them let them know that unfortunately you decline. It was about communication and courtesy. If y'all think im wrong about the courtesy thing then i dont know what to tell ya. And ,yes, I understand everyone has the right to do whatever they want.

No, you've missed the point, and continue to do so. We've all missed out on sales. This is not the way you handle it. The situation has been explained to you many times.

That would have nothing to do with your membership level. If a lack of common courtesy was the problem then that should have been the subject matter , not "Non member beware". You only mentioned not being contacted in a secondary manner in one of the original posts. I never would have guessed that to be the problem from the 1st 3 posts.
Yes some members do lack common courtesy & communication in dealing with people in their threads. I presume they figure that sold says enough.
Other advice given to you as a new member will still apply
