Northwoods Madison Barlow

I ordered a pair in cocobolo. Came in Monday - VERY nice!

I would like to pick up a mammoth and a blackwater jig on this run, just waiting for them to pop up. I'm a little concerned about the blackwater though - no pics at all on the GEC site, and they've got a #47 on the front page today....

Are the blackwater's still coming??

My concerns as well. Been watching the production pics hoping to see the blackwater pop up, as they've completed everything else in the run. Wasn't expecting to see the mammoth, but they're out of my price range and intended use anyway. If no blackwater then I've got some serious thinking to do.

O

I recieved my Cocobolo and I am beyond pleased with it. Like others have mentioned the quality is almost unreal. Dead centered, no wiggle, no gaps AT ALL, baby smooth transitions from bolster to scales... just amazing.. best fit and finish so far of any knife I own. I have saved Cocobolo specifically for whenever the Madison was going to be released and I can now check a big grail off my list. I will post pictures soon, sorry it is dark and interior pics with my cell phone leave a lot to be desired. KSF and GEC well done! So... Derrick.. Hawthornes?? :D

I received mine today in Natural Canvas Micarta and it is absolutely beautiful

I'm pondering on getting one of these barlows and recovering it with black and blaze orange micarta. Maybe like a carbon fiber with blaze orange liners or interwoven black/blaze burlap micarta...could be awesome!

I would start with the Osage Orange one due to price I think.

Mine arrived yesterday nice deep grain and a pretty knot on one side. Excuse the blades, they smudgy. I think it will be a good partner for the turnaround (about 40 straight days of work).

A beauty! How's the thickness feel? I had a 2 blade #23 and it felt a little too chunky when carrying

It's pretty thick. Better than a 1/2" I'd guess. Bout like a buck 110. Not as heavy as one but still a chunky knife. However, it seems to carry light for its size. Hasn't bothered me today at all. And made quick work of boxes of dish soap.

And thanks! I think I got lucky on the wood grain.

Is it a safe assumption that these have carbon springs? Are the bolsters nickel silver or steel? Mostly just curious.

The two blade Madisons are a little chunky. You have to like a fairly large traditional to appreciate one. Great in a leather sleeve for carry. I like them!

A few pics

Those are great pictures. Also some of the best cocobolo I have seen lately. Anyone have pictures of the natural micarta?

I just purchased the sawcut one. I am very excited for this knife.

The first traditional knife I wanted was the brown jigged bone drop point from the first run of Madison Barlows in spring 2014. Ultimately I was not able to get that knife. However, I have bought a number of traditionals in between then and now. Some new knives and some are vintage pieces. I have gained a better understanding of American history and the people that used slip joints in their trades. All of this started because of a knife I didn't buy. I am glad to finally be able get that knife. Thank you derrick for doing another run of these knives.

More denim micarta up if you want to see how they look

My guess is that the denim micarta version will be the cherry of this run.... glad they got another batch. They look great. This will be my first blue jeans knife:D I'll post pics when it arrives.

Thanks for posting the pics of those cocobolo's! That's always a second choice for me.

This thread sure isn't helping my wallet.
