Northwoods Madison Barlow

I have to admit, the denim micarta looks way nicer than I'd expected.

Really tempted by the saw cut bone, but trying to have the patience to wait until the black bone is released so as to compare.

Such sweet misery this waiting...

Hello to the Traditional Forum. This is my first post here, and as you can see, I don't post often at all, though I am a very frequent lurker on bladeforums.

I have been resisting getting into traditions for the simple reason as there are just too many choices for me to look at. I've been eyeballing the Northwoods brand for quite a while and today I did a bad thing; I saw they were listed on the website, and lo-and-behold!, two of them found their way into my shopping cart. I will soon be the owner of a denim and a mammoth Madison Barlow. I told myself that I would look at them in person and decide which one I wanted to keep then sell the other, but you know how that tends to go... I've wanted a mammoth knife for a long while now. But that denim just would be too great of a companion in my jeans pocket.

I'm very anxious to see these barlows upclose. Up until now, the only traditionals I've owned are a Buck 110 and an old cheap Schrade that looks like a Buck 110. Derrick has been doing great things with his Northwoods brand. I just hope he doesn't release a second run of the Bullet Jacks anytime soon. That would mean serious trouble for my bank account!

Might not hold your breath on that. In an email with one of the KSF folks today I asked when the Blackwater would be available. In the response, they were fairly certain "that particular handle material will not be completed".

I wish they would confirm for sure one way or the other. That's the material I wanted most in this run.

Just received shipping notification on my denim micarta Madison Barlow. I was trying to resist, but, just got my denim micarta Michigan Jack in the mail today and it was so nice I raced to get on KSF and snag one. It feels so nice in the hand besides just looking good.

That is very disappointing indeed. Based on an email from one of the KSF staff last week advising that they were on the way, I've held off (and therefore missed) purchasing a few nice examples in other materials. Hmmm.

I'm sure some of the ones you missed will show up on the exchange:thumbup:......

With a hefty price increase. :thumbdn:

I would kill for the Clip Point Madison if they decide to make it in Black Water Jigged Bone. That would be an amazing piece!

Well, I was hoping for something completely different for my modest collection on this one.

The Cocobolo is really nice, with deep rich grains, however it reminds me too much of the Desert Ironwood handles on my BRK Bravo 1.25.

I have smooth bone already and can't do Mammoth on a pension.

That brown saw bone it is looking mighty nice, and I don't yet have any. That might be the ticket if the black water jigged bone falls through.

Thanks for the heads up!

Were they originally supposed to do the Black Water Jigged Bone on the Madison?
It's on GEC's production schedule. Sorry to hear you guys waited for nothing...... still, it could be coming. I don't recall seeing any work in progress pictures of them though.

Are the denim micarta sold out already? This is the first I've heard of them, sound cool.

I'm not sure how many were made, but yesterday the second batch of 65 was released. Only lasted a few hours. Pretty amazing how fast some of these knives are snapped up.

These are beautiful.
I had a two blade, and while the fit & finish were top notch, it was just too big and chunky for my taste. This single blade looks like it might be alright though, and I don't have a "large" traditional. The only question is: cocobolo or green camel bone?

I find it big and chunky but carries light for its size. I like it. Would be on me 100% for a bit had I not ran across a Davison I wanted bad. Sharing pocket time for right now.

It's funny - it seems like a great useful size, and the single blade carries fine for me, especially in a pouch. For whatever reason, I just don't carry a Madison very often. Oh well, still pretty to look at!

Has anyone bought and received one of the Madison's with mammoth scales? They sure look nice but are pricey. Moonpath
