Northwoods Michigan Jack

As an employee here at KSF, I go in back around lunch every day to ask receiving if the Michigan Jack is here yet. Just sayin... I love the Northwoods rustic series. I can't wait!

I've always wondered what it would be like to work at a place like that. I think half my pay check would be spent on knives every payday! You must have a great collection since you get first pick.

I hope the KSF crew don't get swelled heads from all the praise we give them. Keep up the good work please !

We are on a roll so I will add some praise for Tyler. Super helpful by phone and email...

Actually... we all want to make sure customers get first pick. BELIEVE ME, there have definitely been more than a few times I wanted to "cherry pick". Oh man...Mammoth Ivory....

Availability of knives at a dealer needs to be done off line or in the sales forums.
This forum is for discussing the knives themselves.

I just perused the "Whats Happening" section on GEC's website and saw some of the cover options for the Michigan Jacks. I have to say I think the blue denim micarta and the bloodwood look fantastic! It will also be hard to pass on the stag and mammoth.

The Mammoth does not look to be all that 'exciting', but maybe that changes once they are buffed. I think top quality Mammoth has become too expensive for production knives. "Quality" being how they look which is subjective. I don't like Mammoth that has all browns, but someone else might. Long time since i've seen Mammoth with red or blue or green. Early on in using Mammoth for knife handles some of the best Mammoth i have seen was used.
Maybe GEC could splurge and obtain some well colored Mammoth and apply the extra cost into the knife price ?
Or, has all of the brightly colored Mammoth been used up and no more has been found ?
This is not a complaint. I hope to get a Michigan Mammoth !

I'm really growing to love the 77 frame. I want to try out one of those funky lookin wharnies. They are using some really cool and unique handle materials. I've never owned a knife with an easy open notch.
Ugh, I need to quit while I'm ahead.
This is gonna be a tough one to pass up, but a new knife just ain't in the budget right now.

I like the EO idea but I'm not crazy about saber grinds. Anyone have experience using the Broadway's? Are the good slicers?

I'm gonna have to have a few of these for sure. Super excited to get my hands on several of them, but I know what I want.

kootenay joe, I've been buying slabs of Mammoth Ivory and Bark for cheap considering what is charged to make a handle out of it. I have some crazy interesting pieces. I'm going to get some custom stuff made.

HST, that's good to hear. Maybe you could offer to sell some of your "crazy interesting pieces" of Mammoth to GEC.

I have a Broadway and love it! It's my most used blade. I usually carry something like a PM2 or GB with it but the Broadway sees the most work. I tried to convince myself that it's so good that I don't need a Michigan but who was I trying to kid, I'll be getting one for sure! As far as slicing goes, for me it's great, but different people always seem to have differing opinions on what knife is a good slicer. I've heard some complaining the Spyderco Techno is a terrible slicer, others can't praise it enough especially considering the blade stock. For me I've found it great for cardboard and such but certainly a no go or fruit for example. I suppose my GEC#83 with full flat ground thinner blade is a better slicer but it's not better enough to push the Broadway out of my pocket...Just my 2 cents but I sincerely doubt you'll be disappointed in it if you pick one up.

I love the Broadway Jack, but in thinking about this new Michigan, I just made the decision to skip it. I love the small size of the Broadway, and I especially love small blades when they are straight-edged. On a longer blade, I want a little belly. So I'll stick with my 2014 forum knife and the 77 Barlow in that same size. And of course I'll continue to use and love my Broadway Jack.

The denim micarta looks intriguing. I think in hand it will either be "just ok" or it will be phenomenal.

ps. KSF just posted them

I grabbed a black camel bone. Seems like there was only one denim on the site for now

Just put my order in for a bloodwood. Could not pick exact knife but said there were 34 in stock.
Fingers Crossed 😃
