Northwoods Michigan Jack

Anyone know how many denims were available? The bloodwoods which seemed to sell well still took many hours to sell out. Denim was also the only version I really wanted so i"m a little bummed. Anyway, can't wait to see pics from those that got them. Although I didn't get one, it's possible I'll still be able to find something to cut with around here somewhere.

Please discuss the knives. Discussion of the purchasing process belongs in a sales forum, which this ain't.
If you have questions about stock and delivery times, please email the store. That's what they are there for.

Frank, i would like to see a discussion here about "buying practices". The majority of Traditional forum regulars are keen GEC collectors but some 'practices' really affect our ability to get these knives. Some people have mastered the technique of getting to the website seconds after knives have been posted and buying up many knives to resell at a profit.
I think how members here think or feel about this is worthy of discussion. If this topic is posted in another BF forum many of those affected by this practice will not see it and ensuing discussion will not be as representative.
I would like your thoughts on this topic as a thread in this 'Traditional' forum. Your reply will help me better understand where the 'line' is between acceptable or not.

I would also like to see such a discussion.

I'd love to be in on that discussion also.

Wouldn't be too hard to start it in the right forum and put a link to it in here?

Guys, you should read the rules of this forum's sub-section, I realized I obviously needed to after the last deletion of posts. It's all very clear to me now, it's not just about rules of decency. I have a lot to say about this subject matter, but this isn't the place.

If I'm not mistaken, the very first SubForum in the Exchange Forum is entitled: Feedback. IMHO this might be a good place to start that discussion. Just sayin.....

I was quite excited about these. But...I now realize that I just don't care for the "Northwoods" on the blade. I guess I'm really a clean blade kind of guy. These look really good otherwise, particularly to me the green and white bone covers, and I like the blade profile, the size, and the easy open - but I know that blade etching will drive me nuts. So, I'm going to have to pass on these (dang it!) and wait for the next clean-blade Tidioute that strikes my fancy.

To each his own right? ;) I really like the Northwoods logo and rustic finish. However, that being said, it does cause the grind to be thicker than it should be due to the loss of real estate on the blade profile. Makes for a heavy duty user but not the greatest of slicers.

The Northwoods blade logo and rustic blade finish definitely appeal to me but I would also like to see some variety with Northwoods. Some with the 1095 Rustic look but also some stainless high-end steels in flat grinds.

You mean like the Everyday Barlow in CPM154 they came out with last month? There are 2 series of Northwoods: the Rustic series that have the heat treatment finish left on the blade, usually a sabre grind, and the big northwoods stamp (fremont jack, hawthorne, broadway, michigan jack, etc); and the more polished series (I can't remember the name) that has polished FFG blades and only a Tang stamp (Madison Barlow, Presidential, Willimette Whittler, Norfolk, etc).

Are we sure the denim sold out? I have been watching since they first posted on KSF, checking maybe two or three times a day, and I have not seen the Denim posted other than the sub section. The same thing went for the Blue Camel Bone for a while, now those are live. I am thinking the denim just hasn't posted yet, and if they have, they must have sold out within 4-6 hours, which is insane!

Yes. I had a Madison 2 blade. Looked great, but was just too large.
Thanks for the reminder about the Willamette; it kind of fell off my radar. Really like that one.

See Post #82 above.

I happen to like the bone covers that have absorbed more dye, since the color seems to be richer or deeper. I wonder if the oiled white bone can be dyed at home with leather dye, or wood stain, or maybe some natural dyes? Then coated with 100% pure tung oil that would polymerize after a couple weeks, or some other material (shellac?), that would form a protective coating? Maybe some of the lighter-colored ones that are not the oiled white bone can also be dyed this way. GEC used some dye and cover finish process - I don't know if it precludes further dyeing.

I love mine in EI. I use it all the time. I like the utility of the pen knife. Truly a great traditional pattern and blade choices.

"moved off line" is this the same as "deleted permanently" ?

Joe, Moved offline means moved to a sub-forum that is accessible to BF mods. It's the same place the reported posts show up. In general no posts are deleted.

I'm sure Frank will weigh in when he's around later. I'll just mention that the Traditional sub-forum is intended to be for the discussion of knives. It's a non-commercial forum. Anything commercial in nature really should not be posted here. We try to be reasonable in our moderation. You'll see the occasional post or two that doesn't get moved or commented on. When a thread starts to veer off track, or the discussion becomes totally commercial, it's time for a correction. I expect that's why Frank moved the posts.

FEEDBACK: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly! would be a better place for discussing "buying practices". Certainly better then the Traditional forum. If you start a thread over there you can put a link in your signature line, so others can be made aware there's a place to air the issue.

I don't think you'll see us allowing a thread for that discussion here. Frank and I will chat about it though. Thanks!
