Not bad for less than $10!

That odd crescent shaped tio functions as a sort of old school "wave" feature, allowing the blade to be opened one handed by hooking the tip on one's pocket. In a pinch, it works OK, but it requires some deliberate attention lest one's clothing gets sliced up.
"legend has it was designed by a Civil War veteran who lost his arm. He fashioned the "hook" blade tip to allow the user to rake the tip on a belt loop or pocket and open the blade using only one arm. This is the ultimate display of a soldier adapting to any situation!"

I have read of this before. that the "one armed" knife was invented by a verteran of the Civil War.

That was the same concept used in designing the Case Russlock if I'm not mistaken.

I have about every model they make.....There are 7 different handles in RR barlow alone and i have each.....But, i collect just about anything......Since 1965.....carl

The One Handed Man blade story may be myth, may be true but with jeans it works quite well after a little practice. I can open mine about as fast as I can a thumb stud or thumb hole. I would imagine it would work even better on bib overalls using the button catch on the suspenders. My Rough Rider isn't as pronounced as some of my other but it does the job easily.

I think I first heard that story when I was in the Boys Scouts so it is an enduring story.

CaptInsano, how about a pic and some comments on your new hunter? I saw them on the RR page at SMKW, looks like a very nice knife!

What's up with SMKW anyways? They state that there is free shipping on any order over $10 but the form attaches $8.34 to a $22.00 purchase (for 5-7 day ground). I know Waxman is cheaper but of the two RR's I wanted, one of them is available only at SMKW's. I must be missing something obvious but for the life of me, I can't figure out what it is. Dang this newfangled internet craze.

If I remember correctly, before you finish the checkout process it removes the shipping charges for continental USA.

It did that to me as well but once the order processed to the actual payment page the shipping charges are deleted.

What am I, invisible? ;) (Just kiddin'. :p)

You are not invisible, it is just that no one is reading your posts. Except me of course. Your biggest fan. (Laying it on thick before Blade Thur night, maybe I can get a steak out of this yet.):p
Jim

Anyone try the RR micarta large sod buster/work knife? How's the micarta? My buddy got one and the micarta was rough. Looked like someone put sandpaper to it. Just wondering if that's an all around thing.

Jim, you're a piece of work old friend. ;) :D

Guess that'll teach me to mind my own bidness. :(

Well, he did invite me, when I invite someone, I usually pay. Oh boy 22oz filet coming.:)

Just order a Chateaubriand....that is basically the whole tenderloin, well coated on the outside in pepper, and broiled to order, saves time from having to find the waiter to get him to bring seconds...

Well last night I watched the knife show from Smokey Mountain last night and ordered one of the scout/utility camp knives in jigged amber bone. I am looking forward to comparing it to the other various knives of this pattern I own. I have gotten away from carrying this pattern since I haven't been spending much time in the woods of late. While a month long walk about isn't in the plans for this summer I am intending on a couple of long weekends spent on the trail.

is this the one you were looking for?

Thanks Absintheur,
Thats the one. I ordered one this morning. I hope it is as good of quality as the folders. Some of the Chinese hunters I have seen have a real thick steel blade which I don't like. I'll update once I receive mine.
