Evolution, of sorts. Now that I have quite a few Rough Riders over the years, I notice a few changes.
1.) The first knife I have, a trapper, it has a shield 1/2" long and narrow, with "Rough Rider" on it. On the blade it has no writing, except for the "Rough Rider" and "stainless steel" at the base of the main blade. That was about 5 to 6 years ago.
2.) Next I have a sowbelly stockman, it now has an anvil with "tested sharp" and "Rough Rider" on the main blade. At the base it has "Rough Rider", then another anvil with "tested sharp", then it has "cutlery company", I think, my eyes have a hard time seeing that small.
3.) One of my seconds has the circle shield with a horseshoe with "tested sharp" and two big "R", one on top of each other. On the main blade it has horseshoe symbol again and then it says "Always Ready". I kind of like that saying. Then at the base of the blade it says 440 razor sharp steel.
4.) The new ones have the circle shield, no saying on the blade, except for the anvil. The "440 razor sharp steel" is on the other side of the main blade.
I kind of like the simplicity of the older design, with no saying on the main blade and the simple long and narrow shield. Of course they have improved the quality over the years and I guess that is the important part.
