Not Impressed...

I was watching his reviews there for a while but I stopped about when he started with that spray paint stuff on everything, plus his reviews got way too long and a bit too political for my taste. He was usually very good with making his reviews as informative as possible, but twenty five minutes is too much for a knife review for me, especially when half of it was just ranting about political issues.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm actually turned off when I see a review of a product as only 3 minutes long. I want the person's opinion on the item, and I enjoy listening to the stories that go along with them.

I love nutnfancy. He makes top notch helpful reviews. He is not making videos for collectors, so don't be upset if he is too "tactical" for you. He is LEO/military. What do you expect his viewpoint to be? If you can't stand him, don't click on his videos.

Where did I say he is too 'tactical' for me?

I usually don't click on his videos---and my post was to explain the reason why. Doesn't mean I can't stand him, just that I think he's long-winded. You read a lot into my post that wasn't there.

.........but then again, who am I to say. I'm not a some glorious member of ten plus years on a forum about knives that talks smack from a keyboard. I know nothing. Really, don't knock the guy when he's going out of his way and providing free information. It's very easy to criticize someone in the public eye when you're hiding in the shadows. Those of you that seem to think that this guy is a clown should put yourself up in front of a camera and review a knife and then post in on the internet for all to see. I know that I personally don't have the guts to do it and I don't usually have trouble with speaking in front of groups. I'm sure a lot of you ridiculing nutnfancy would be absolutely hilarious on film, and unintentionally so. Stop "hating on" the guy because his videos aren't as technical as you'd prefer. His videos are made so that the average Joe military or LE can view the weighing of the pros of cons of mainstream gear before they make a purchase. He never claims to be a knife expert, in fact, he frequently states that he is not. Someone who is strictly a knife nut can sit an pick apart his reviews over and over; finding statements that they believe to be wrong, but he's still providing the service that he's intending to.

Cutlerylover is good stuff too. Any of those guys that are willing to post up videos of themselves on youtube doing reviews deserve respect because it's the friggen internet for cry eye. By the way, how do you know that cutlerylover lives with his parents and works at the post office?

I like his videos at least compared to the general 'here is my new knife' video where the reviewer just unpacks it, spends a few minutes going over what comes with it, reads the stats from the computer, and then finishes with another few minutes turning it over and opening or unsheathing it.

There are are few things I don't need and/or like. First, the POU is generally useless (for me). I expect that's true for most people trolling this forum because the use can be derived from its stats and design, and if you know--or own--a lot of knives to compare it to, you know what another would be good for generally.

Also, I wish he used the knives before he reviewed them. Some he does, but many he doesn't. That's the type of info I am really interested in--how they hold in the hand, is it comfortable performing whatever tasks it's designed for, etc. I can see what a knife looks like from pictures, I can read it's weight online, but I can't know how it uses without having it in my hand.

I wonder how magazines and catalogs one would have to read to acquire all the info nutn has shared in his videos. People talk about not having time to watch his videos. I don't have time or money to order knives/gear until I fine something I like. Watching his video gives me a much better idea of what the knife is actually like vs simply looking at pics online.

The second paragraph was intended for the OP.

Because I subscribe to him and nutnfancy, and probably watched most of their vids. He did say he lives with his parents and works at the post office.

Free information is only valuable if it is useful. I do not find the videos useful because they are not based on how I use a knife.

The Navy shells the beaches, the Marines storm the beaches, the Army secures the area and builds a barracks, and then the Air Force sleeps in the barracks.

Way to go, dis'n a whole branch of the military. Dipstick. There are REMFs in every service and plenty of Airmen who have paid the ultimate price for your freedom dickweed.

I watched one review of a cheap heavy knife I would nevery carry and he was just pumping it up like it was the best thing since sliced bread, that's when I realized his reviews weren't for me. He was comparing it to a knife that is much better IMO and calling the crappier knife better for some trivial reasons.

I just watched a nutnfancy and I was wrong in my last comment. The other reviewer I was talking about is someone else. Nutnfancy is did a pretty good job on the review I saw.

Qtips are tactical also
Well shoot yeah they are, you take your tactical black Gerber LST @ 1.2 ounces (LST meaning "Light, Sharp, Tactical") pop the cotton off one end, point it, rub it in a little poo and you got yourself an improvised tactical dart solution :D

*Btw, I didn't mean any disrespect to Nut'n, Ive already voiced the positive I get from his videos earlier, just having a bit of fun.

Meanwhile I've made 76 knife review videos and i am still learning. I am limited to clips of maximum 11 minutes - Nutnfancy and Cutlerylover don't have this limitation as they were already making videos when the youtube limits were much higher, but recent joiners are limited to 11 minutes.
In several videos I compare two knives because I think that gives an interesting dynamic to the clip. This means around 5'30" per knife. I reserve the one knife clips for designs with an interesting background.
Sometimes the 11 minutes is frustrating but in general it forces me to deliver the review at a good pace, not to repeat myself too often; and to briefly prepare upfront what I am going to say.
I also like to give context and background to a review and I have learned meanwhile that this shouldn't delay me showing the knife in all it's glory - a feedback that I got on my Pohl Force Alpha One review: in my enthusiasm my intro was too long, it took a few minutes before I showed the blade. I won't make that mistake anymore.
Making these little clips is a surprisingly relaxing pastime, but I try to do them well (ok, except for my horrible accent that can't be helped). While I liked several of the videos on the channel, one of my primary aims was to give a different, totally non-tactical viewpoint and thus drawing attention on several interesting designs that focus more on tradition or elegant utility. My own favorite is the clip I did about a limited edition Mcusta. I was quite happy with the outcome, a review where I was able to bridge into other domains.
There are still some videos to make (my knife buying has decreased quite a bit so I am only some 20 knives behind now), and I am trying to reach out in other domains such as wine and book reviews. This requires some more preparation: while it's just a pastime for me, it shouldn't be a waste of time for others!

He probably has some sort of disorder.

I agree.
I'm also convinced that Richard is rather impressed with his self.(Thinks his $h!t doesn't stink) and that he must love the sound of his own voice.

He also claims that he's independent, but don't be fooled he gets paid by the manufactures to give their products good reviews.Maybe not all of them, but you can bet your bottom dollar that he's getting kick backs for doing so.

Do you have some kind of evidence to support that accusation? Documents? Interviews with involved parties? Anything? Absent evidence, your accusation is a meaningless exercise in intellectual lazyness and mean speculation. Not helpful, friend.

Besides that, he sometimes really bashes a knife from the same company. That doesn't make much sense if he's supposed to advertise for them, does it?

I like nutnfancy's reviews. He's very thorough, but the downside of that is that it takes a long time.

I do like his vids and his griptillian vid made me finally buy one and I am very glad I did. I do kinda prefer cutlerylover's vids though and usually watch his vids more. They do both make long vids alot but like cutlerylover said before he doesn't plan on how long his vids will take. He just puts the camera on and talks, and I bet Nutn' does the same, and I would probably do the same as well. Also, I really doubt Nutn' is gettin paid by any company. I believe that he will say good things about things he likes and bash things he doesn't regardless of who they are manufactured by. I mean he turned down the opportunity to have any BM knife he wanted for free.
