Not Impressed...

I like his videos. They provide a decent amount of information about the knife, as well as actually show the knife being held.

If the manner in which nutnfancy goes about disclosing information is detrimental, in your opinion, to his "watchability" then this is merely an argument on style: which leads to an argument on aesthetics - an argument which cannot be qualitatively argued.

If nutnfancy's views or opinions, which he does state multiple times are only his, are incompatable with yours, then so much the better - as opinions on a given subject multiply, a larger discourse on the subject can be amassed. Bladeforums.com itself is a site in which opinions may be voiced, and discourse on the subject of knives amassed. Youtube is no different, in that a video reply may be submitted in order to broaden the discussion of a knife: I would encourage you to make your own video.

I would like to make my own videos in response to nutnfancy's, but being that I own too few knives, as well as not having a video camera, it makes this difficult. How many members on Bladeforums owns or has access to as many or more knives than nutnfancy? I'm fairly sure there must be several. Why aren't they doing knife reviews for youtube?

Truthfully, aside from nutnfancy, cutlerylover, CRNFAllyKat, bluntruth4u, knifetests.com and only a few others, how wide is the knife viewing community on youtube? Nutnfancy, at least, garners around 40-60 thousand viewers per knife video. Until another person approaches or overtakes nutnfancy, I'd have to argue that he is the single most influential knife reviewer on the internet.

He has more than 40,000 maybe 50,000 subscribers. He gotta be doing something right.

He introduced knives to so many people. Some have learned a thing or two from him.

If you dont like his work, simply don't watch. Thats the beauty of the tube.

59,000:cool:.

Nutnfancy is a gun and knife nerd. I like him because he's systematic; I guess you gotta expect an Air Force pilot to at least be systematic. He goes down a written list of things to talk about in pretty much all of his table top reviews, so he is quite predictable. He's so predictable and consistent that I can guess pretty accurately whether or not he will like a particular knife even before he reviews it.

If you don't agree with his tool philosophy, then it might bother you. But to be completely fair he always says that he's nothing more than a "data point", i.e. an opinion. It's an opinion, but it's not completely baseless because it's grounded in his experience in the military and as an outdoor enthusiast.

Some people complain that he says "tactical" this and "tactical" that toward a knife we don't consider tactical. Well, if you bother to follow him, you know that in his "philosophy of use" anything longer than 3" is considered tactical, while anything shorter is "edc".

Like it or not he is probably the most fluent of all knife afficionados, and also the one with the best video quality. I don't know what video camera & lighting setup he uses, but the picture is clearer than most other knife reviewers out there. Video quality counts, especially if I'm considering to buy a knife not available locally.

If you disagree with him, by all means create a video of your own presenting your point of view. We'll see how you stack up against him.

Does anybody here watch Nutnfancys videos? Is anybody else as turned off by them as I am? I mean, hes got good info, in most cases he knows what he's talking about but I just can't stand listening and watching him. Thoughts? Commesnts? Opinions? Any reccomendatons for other video-makers?

here's a question:

Why are you surprised and/or offended by anyone's posts, anywhere?

a good amount of your posts are clearly confrontational, and two of the five threads you have started are deliberate insults to others.

some people like his videos, some don't. is there some positive outcome you expect by posing a question as you do?

if you don't like them, think they could be better or more helpful to you, then post your suggestions on youtube.

If I were locked in a room with him, I would ask him what the best knife to puncture my ear drums with would be. His "tactical clinics" with carbines/hand guns are laughable at best. His obsession with jimping is hilarious, almost as much as his splitting hairs over .0001 oz is with an edc blade/firearm.

I avoid his videos like the plague, but sometimes it's like a car wreck and I just get called in. If you call him out, he'll just say "well where are your 10000 minute videos on youtube", not everyone has time or a full support staff of equally annoying friends to film you.

But hey, I don't watch him, so he's not my problem. If you enjoy his videos, that's fine, I'm not in the club.

I enjoy seeing knives from different views. I make my own opinions when I see them. I like seeing all high quality clips of stuff I like

I like him. I like about anbody who takes the time to share there thoughts on a knife on youtube. The person making the video is just giving there thoughts, and I make my own. It gives me just a little more buying power seeing a knife in some ones hand and hearing there thoughts. After seeing the knife, I can make a little better choice as to what I think would be the best knife for ME. If you dont like the presentation mute your computer. At least than you can see the knife, open and close and at all angles. I say keep up the great work nutnfancy. I say keep up the good work to all the youtube reviewers. I think that it is a great tool for anyone who cant go to a local shop to see a knife for themselves. I hope more people will start doing youtube reviews. I think I would like to try one someday when I get a video camera.

Having never made or posted a video, I have to say that his videos are far better than mine.

I find that he takes 10 minutes to say 3 minutes worth of information, but he's not alone in that. Most youtube videos suffer from the same problem.

I do wonder how all of those video guys can have that much free time on their hands to make that many videos.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm actually turned off when I see a review of a product as only 3 minutes long. I want the person's opinion on the item, and I enjoy listening to the stories that go along with them.

I love nutnfancy. He makes top notch helpful reviews. He is not making videos for collectors, so don't be upset if he is too "tactical" for you. He is LEO/military. What do you expect his viewpoint to be? If you can't stand him, don't click on his videos.

I've been introduced to several knives through his vids. I can understand why some very knowledgeable knife aficionados might find his videos annoying, but I think he provides a good service.

He certainly seems to devote a lot of time and effort into his 'project' and as far as I know he's not making any money off it. If you don't like him then don't watch, but I don't see any reason to disparage him on BF.

I am in the camp of liking cutlerylover's videos

sure they can be all over the place and some can get offtopic a bit but he tends to give an honest opinion and does it without a bunch of fuss or bells and whistles. which to me is what counts.

Being all lolspeak and jumping around and spazzing out just irritates me hence why cutlery lover is appealing hedoesnt come off like a jackass.

I find that the problem with his reviews are the same as most youtube reviews.

They don't script themselves (enough).

A lot of youtube reviews (including his) seem to be made up of someone rambling and trying to think of EVERYTHING they can say about a knife while a knife is being held. And this often goes on for up to ten minutes.

If I were to follow any video reviewer he'd have to have thought out comments while showing actual different angles and pieces of a knife.

Maybe taking it apart, showing it from different angles constantly.

At the moment I only take a quick glance at video reviews because of 2 things:

- Seeing it in someone's hand
- Seeing it open and close.

That's it. And since that takes all of 20 seconds that's usually about the time I watch.

I think hes ok in small doses. Besides his shrill whiny voice there are two things that torque me about him.

1) When he starts in on this tactical crap it gets annoying to me. if he wants to talk about survival stuff with a knife thats fine but please i dont need to be told whats tactical and whats not by a pilot.

2) that one video of a rat cutlery where he spent half the damn video talking about the rat cutlery model made me realize just how sad and alone this poor guy was.

not quite as sad and alone as this individual :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQOvCIa4hlw&feature=player_embedded but still :)

i like cutlerylover and nutnfancy's videos. they're a good way to check out some new knives if you can't get them in hand yourself. they do both tend to ramble though, and nutn can get annoying. that said, i think those two are among the best on youtube. bluntruth is good also, and his test videos are always neat to watch.

When I do watch his videos, it's usually so I can see the knife and it being handled as he usually has some pretty clear videos and they're relatively long -so you get a good look of them. I come here to learn about the knives in question though in conjunction with the known aspects of the knife. The videos I do take into account are those where I sometimes find them actually using the knife I'm wondering about, and sometimes in the manner I'm going to use it. After that, it's just a matter of me trying it out myself :)

I still watch a vid of his on occasion. Like many here, I've owned a enough knives to get a good idea of what I like nowadays. One of the most helpful things to see is the blade in the hand. I watch it with the sound off usually.

I give him credit for taking the time to do his vids on a variety of subjects that I like. Just a little long winded for me (in general).

i watch the occasional video before making a purchase but dont care what they have to say...I just want to see it being opened and get an idea of it in hand since i make alot of online purchases.

In all honesty, his vids got me started with my knife habit. I found his earlier knive vids and being around 10 mins, it wasn't too bad. They got me into thinking about what I wanted in knives and what worked and didn't work for me. So for the beginner, it's a pretty good starting point, specially if there's no decent shop around to check them out yourself.

I stopped watching when the vids stretched to 30 mins or more and too repetitive.

I enjoy his shotshow vids showing spydercos and benchmades for 2010:thumbup:.

One vid/review on the streamlight pro led me to purchase one a couple months ago.
I can't squawk too much about something that did give me good information and provided me with a good tool that has become EDC for me.
Like the guy said..."then don't watch"!

CP

Why don't you simply make better ones yourself? Then nutnfancy can post up his opinions about yours here?

I'm not a big fan and he can be annoying at times but I do respect the fact that he is doing them and giving usable information.

Some of his videos are pretty good, while others were not, it just depends on what he is talking about.

Having never made or posted a video, I have to say that his videos are far better than mine.

I guess I agree with what I quoted above.

I don’t like or agree with everything that he puts in his vids, however the same can be said for virtually every review I’ve ever seen or read regardless of its format (magazine, video, or here on BFC).

His stuff is rather long but I remember him saying that his videos are getting longer because if he fails to mention something he gets a ton of emails telling him that he missed something.

He has around 60,000 subscribers over 4,646,000 channel views and his videos has been watched more then 27,500,000 times so its hard to deny that good or bad he is rapidly becoming as popular as many knife/Gun/Gear magazines.
