NOTABLE PAIRS : Only traditionals

A couple of big ones. I'm hoping to score a #46 Whaler to go with these.

Lance, those Case XX gum fuddy models are a treat!:cool::thumbsup:
Alan, your newer rough black canoe and humpback stockman are striking examples of a couple of my favorite patterns!:thumbsup::cool: Thanks Gary! That Duo that you posted is pretty sweet too!

Fantastic pair of "black stag" (bone) Colts, James!:cool::thumbsup: I have several Colt knives and think very highly of them!

I haven't posted one of my Case chestnut jigged bone CV pairs here for about a month and a half, so here are the first two I ever had, SBJr & SBJ: a Sodbuster Jr (from a BigBiscuit GAW) and a Swayback Jack (thanks, Paul).

Thanks GT, I was surprised and impressed with the Colt line, especially once I started using them. Much better quality than their cost might insinuate. It seems a lot of people knew how good they are long before I found out. I've seen and liked your natural looking (brown) stag bone. Those would probably be my first choice of the Colts that I have seen but they weren't available when I decided to give them a try. Case's Swayback Jack in Chestnut is a favorite of mine, it's cool that you have a matching Sodbuster. Nice "Notable Pair", my friend !!!

Really cool shots! I like the comparison of the barlow and the boy's knife, the contrast between the long pull/initialed bolster and the nail nick/short bolster especially. Also, I never realized the similarity in the 79 and 85 frames until you posted that.

That shot is kind of iconic. I love corset shields, and your knives have terrific blade and handle patina.

It nice to have a choice in which end you like your main blade on!

Very nice Portuguese knife there:thumbsup:

I ordered a Traditional from one firm over a month ago, sent an e-mail asking after the knife and got a quick and polite reply that they were still making my knifeo_O It's not a custom just an inexpensive Traditional but I wish they would get a move on! Is this normal for makers in Portugal, I thought they would have stock?

Regards, Will

A couple of Robeson jacks, one strawberry bone (1948-1959) and the other brown bone (1940-1964). Note that the placement of the pens and their nail nicks are not uniform.

Do you have a preference, Stuart? I definitely prefer the configuration on bottom one. -Lance

I'm with you, Lance, but it wouldn't shy me away from a nice knife. My conjecture, and it is solely that, is there were spare pen blades from a pattern that has bottom pinned right-hand pens and they just flipped them to use them up on top-pinned knives (maybe more in demand). BTW, you can see from my earlier post of the brown bone, I'm unsure of it's birthday.

Nice pair of Northwoods VS! Especially the Senator... single spring and all!
How long is it? Do you know who made them?

Thanks! The Senator is 3 1/4" closed. I am pretty sure they were originally purchased directly from Dave Shirley by the previous owners. I don't know who made them.
