Now a warning to the folks

Chad , you are confusing me here . You are asking for rule clarification , why does this matter to you ? PP rules don't seem to matter to you . Just a difference in your point of view of rules I am noticing , so it is confusing me .

There's really no reason for you to be confused if you've read this thread completely. Someone commented and quote a Bladeforums super mod regarding PP fees, and I wanted to clarify whether or not this was a BLadeforums official rule or not. It has nothing to do with PP rules.

So to reply directly, I have two very different points of view regarding PP rules and bladeforums rules. Are you still confused? If you'd like me to elaborate on the difference just say the word, but it would really just be redundant at this point.

Currently, there is NOT a rule regarding Paypal fees, options, ect.

However, conventional wisdom would indicate that if you choose to accept Paypal payments, you follow their rules. Otherwise, you risk getting your account locked and suspended. That would severely curtail sales, wouldn't it?

Esav mentioned earlier that you sellers should figure out what amount you need for your goods, including the item, shipping, insurance, Paypal fee, ect, and post that as your asking price.

I'd like to add one more thing in response to you.

Amongst your confusion you pose the question why do paypal rules matter to me? Regardless of whether they matter to me or not is irrelevant since I never initiate any inquiry of PP rules. However, since everyone is so intent to continue this discussion of ethics (and now rules) I will contribute.

Paypal "gift" option is among many categories of payment all within the "personal" option. Along with "gift" there are alsO options for "payment advance", "living expense", "cash advance" and finally "other". According to the PP rules, which I've had no issues breaking for over 10 years, swapping, trading, selling, buying and reimbursing friends for knives and other gadgets can easily fall into the "other" category.

Now like many here, I am a hobbiest. I've not once got involved in knife collecting as a business. I have 2-3 very close local bladeforums friends, and happy to say I've made some great friends all across this country through BF. It is not uncommon at all that I have a friend I know is looking for a knife, and I'll buy it for them if I happen to see it pop up for sale. I'm not asking for finders fees, I'm not turning a profit, and I'm certainly not running a business. When I hand over that knife to my friend, and they ask to send me the money VIA paypal are you saying I should eat those fees? Are you saying that this scenario can not fall under the "personal", "other" category?

I'll just disclaim that if I've used the word "gift" in the past, so be it. I think we all realize we're talking about Paypal "personal".

I will get right on that. Sorry it wasn't done sooner, i was under the impression it would have been updated when I paid bladeforums to upgrade my account. I just looked into my user cp, but i'm not quite sure how to do it. Is there someone who can post a reply here in this thread explaining how it can be done? Or would you prefer this matter be handled through private messaging?

A couple points. No, "selling" a knife would not fall into the "other" category. It would fall under regular selling fees. Also, I'm not sure how you would handle people reimbursing you in the designated buyer scenario, but that wasn't the topic. The topic was selling on Bladeforums, and trying to avoid fees or pass them off onto your buyers.

well to be fair the real topic was starting fires in other peoples sales threads. Since we've all lost complete sight of that, i'll remind everyone.

the second topic, was warning the folks here at blade forums of the dangers of using PP "personal" methods.

Lastly, the whole thing evolved into a debate of ethics regarding Paypal policies and terms used after connecting, buyers and sellers in a private matter. So no, i don't think the topic or issue was as much about selling on Bladeforums, as much as it is about ethics and opinions regarding sending money privately, and separately from bladeforums.

YOU STARTED THE FIRE , I was only trying to help protect and inform the customer . It may have been wrong of me to post it there , but the intent was honorable .

listen. First off, it is absurd to accuse me of starting the fire. You made a lousy judgment call, which since you've admit was wrong and allegedly apologized for.

Second, if you take the time to review my posts, you'll see that I make it very clear I don't think there was malintent on your part. I never questioned your honor, but i continue to question your lousy judgment, especially since you make a strong implication that your self proclaimed honor outweighs your obvious misconduct.
