nuntfancy.....

I just wanted to add....

That yes I am very thankful that we have so many good folks putting up knife reviews on YouTube. I love watching them. Not just when I'm bored either because rarely am I bored. I have too much stuff going on.

I do enjoy watching a lot of folks vids and I am currently subscribed to about 24 different channels and most of them (I think all but 4) are about knives or guns.

Point being....we do have it good and have a lot of resources for getting good sound info on the knives we all like.

Sorry if I came across as bashing the guy as I don't think he 'sucks' that bad. Just a little bit. ;)

While I dont agree with his use of tactical and how he makes almost every knife he reviews seem more like a weapon than a tool (its comments like that scare people enough to take our rights away), I do like the information he gives out about the knives he reviews and I actually enjoy his reviews quite a bit. Edited to add: Given his history I dont have as big of a problem with him making knives out to be weapons but I still think he should focus more on the tool aspect.

My biggest complaint is that he's pretty much stopped the knife reviews. I subscribe to him and every new video is about tactical gear or guns or some crap. I want knife reviews!

Spot on - a knife is first and foremost a tool - and I quote from Aug'08 Knives Illustrated - THE TOP FIVE TACTICAL FOLDERS by Abe Elias

"One aspect that always gets brought up is simply the ability of a knife to dispatch an enemy, but that could be done with any number of different styles of cutlery, including a kitchen knife, which crime statistics read is the primary style of knife in knife-related attacks. A tactical folder is a knife used by people who need a dependable piece of solidly built equipment, a folder that gives you - in all cases - confidence."

Bugger the self-defense capabilities of a knife :jerkit: - just about anything can be used in a pinch. (When I was a cabbie we carried a screwdriver on the driver's door for that purpose as a knife would have created too many hassles). I am far more interested in the quality and technical aspects of a knife and its ergonomics - fit & finish, ease of opening/closing, locking system & lockup strength, blade play, materials used, blade shape's suitability to various tasks, grip options, slipperines of handle when wet, carry options, edge retention and ease of sharpening, customer service, overall bang for bucks........

This forum is far more helpful than uTube but the latter can be more entertaining

I'm a fan of Nut and Cutlerylover. Take the vids for what their worth. Two guys offering their opinions. I think Nut and Cut both give a good comprehensive review of the features of the product they review and do it a semi professional manner.

Not a fan of Coletrane and some of the others out there. They fill 4 mins with "ums" and "ahs" and some struggle to fill 3 or 4 mins with worthwhile info. Many sound like they're bored and doing it for a school project that is due the next day.

he is annoying, he seems to enjoy the sound of his own voice way too much. and i also dont understand how you can rant about a knife for 10 minutes without once holding it in a normal grip. he does seem to know more about firearms even though he is extremly biased about glocks. glock are great and all but i dont get an erection everytime someone says the word glock like he probably does. as far as knives go i wouldnt take his advice he is prety clueless. and a lot of people defend him becuase he is military so he must know what he is saying. but the way i see it is just because he is in the military does not mean he knows what the hell he is talking about. there are a lot of dumb people ib the military i know a few of them personaly

LOL... Not the best/most tactful post I've ever read, but I like you!

I do notice that he does use the term "tactical" quite a bit but other than that I like his reviews

I ordered an SK-5 TrailMaster after I saw his review of it. Never done that before...

I'd like to see more 'live demos' of outdoor type knives though. That would be very entertaining.

I 've seen most of Nutnfancy's reviews and I have to say that I like them. I see his opinion as just that, an opinion. He is entitled to his own ways of thinking and anyone else is entitled to theirs; but I think it's refreshing to see someone else's point-of-view on some topics. That way, if I overlook something that the other person picks up, I would be in the know. I don't think his use of 'tactical' is overstated, it's the way he sees his knives and his views are definitely going to have believers and non-believers but to each their own :D.

Nutnfancy rocks. He's going to tell you what he likes/dislikes about a knife whether it's $200 or $30 and it's an honest review.

First, some of Nutnfancy's videos are informational, and it is often a good chance to see what a particular knife looks like in hand. That said I sometimes find myself rolling my eyes when he states "I want it to be able to go through body armor." The use of the word "tactical" is a personal pet peeve of mine, so hey if it works for you, go for it. People are entitled to have their experience backed philosophies, and we can sometimes agree on them. Hey it's the internet, what do you expect.

I bought a Sog Flash 1 after watching his review, and he was spot on.

I was not disappointed

It's a nice assisted opening USA made knife for $30

What is the real purpose of this thread anyway? Should this be in some sort of "Political View" type forum instead? It looks like we're reviewing a human being instead of a knife.

Choose to watch his videos or choose not to.

When overly critisizing a person, you need to look within and ask yourself, could you do the same? why aren't you doing the same?.

It makes the critical second guess their comments.

Honestly, I like his videos. Yes, he's biased towards Cold Steel and Glock, and this coupled with the over-use of the word "tactical" make him sound like what we call a mall ninja, but his reviews are good. Not the greatest, but good. He makes it a point to cover the most important things, and while I agree that he should hold the knives more, he's doing just fine by me.

Hey, guys! Maybe we should have a special Knife Reviewer sub-forum for all of you who obviously like reviewing reviewers. There are many, not just on UTube.

KniveTest.com does destruction testing on many large knives to see how tough they really are (there videos are the main reason I own an RTAKII). Go to YouTube and search "destruction test" if you haven't yet. These guys are funny sometimes (especial the guy that never takes off the hockey mask).

Anyone come across any other good reviewers?

(I was joking about the sub-forum, buy the way. NOT a good idea)

ya i am a nutnfancy fan but it does get quiet annoying with his tactical talk i prefer cutlerylover alot more cause he talks about knives for edc and on the odd video he will say that its a good tactical knife

That guy is a member here, I think his name is Noss or Hoss or something.

I've only just recently stumbled onto nutnfancy's reviews. I like his enthusiasm and anyone who is into gadgets and gear like he is will always be a friend of mine:thumbup:. He could do with an editor and maybe a rehearsal or two but hey - it's youtube not NBC.

I watched his preparation videos for a 5 day hike with some amusement however - even he admits he takes way too much gear and the occasional photo he shows reveal mountainous sized packs.....then in the next breath he talks about his knee problems. I wonder if he's ever connected the two issues......

The other thing that amuses me about he and other knife reviewers is all this gumpf about deployment speed. I'm no tactical expert but surely in all the time issues created by a SD situation, the speed with which the knife flicks out, would have to be a infitesimably small contributor to the effective handling of the threat. Surely the speed with which the knife could be drawn from where it is clipped is the more critical issue.

Deployment speed may be a valid contributor to the coolness of a knife if that's your thing - but as the first functional factor to mentioned in a knife review? I don't think so.

Nevertheless I predict bigger and better things for the Nutnfancy project. I reckon he's on to something...
