Nut'n Fancy just lost me

I don't find his review helpful when he calls a knife that weighs just over 9 ounces a "little boat anchor", and makes a claim that it weighs 12 1/2 ounces. He also claims that the width on this knife is 1/4" when it is not that thick.

Check out his review on the ZT0121 for some serious misinformation. Had I listened to him, I would have passed on what is possibly my favorite fixed-blade knife.

I don't care how he talks or how goofy he is, I just want accurate information in a knife review. He claims that a knife weighs 1/3 more than it actually does, and that it is thicker than it actually is. This is not "keeping it real" at all. Keeping it real would involve accurate measurements.

Instead, his review is worse than worthless.

I really don't get it, why spend he many hours on the computer? For me, for you I don't think so?

I don't agree that there is "some serious misinformation" in that video. He's expressing his opinions, which we are all free to disregard, as you have done with the ZT0121.

The fact that you disagree with him doesn't make him wrong and you right -- nor does it make you right and him wrong. It simply defines a difference in opinions.

He often includes the sheath in the figures he posts on weight. The description on the particular video you mention doesn't make that clear, but I do recall videos where I saw this happen, because I -- like you -- was confused, so I did my own research and found that the weight figure he quoted on another couple of knife videos was including the sheath.

In an ideal world he would've clarified this and would never make a single mistake. But nobody's perfect.

The weight depends on how the knife is measured, though it is still not a full 12 1/2 ounces with the sheath.
With 10 minutes of time in that review, he could have/should have mentioned that the knife is actually 9.3 ounces one time, but like you said, nobody's perfect.

Calling the ZT0121 a 1/4" thick knife, however, is simply wrong on his part. It has nothing to do with opinions, it has to do with the reviewer not measuring the blade to see that the width is truly .19".

For an opinion, I think that the reviews are typically 3 or 4 times too long. :D

I'm with you on that one. I would prefer shorter vids that are more to the point, much like he used to produce back when he first started "the project." As it is, the fast-forward button gets used with more frequency lately.

All told, I'm going to keep watchin' him. His videos took my persistent but passing interest in knives into the realm of serious addiction. And as we all know, that's both a blessing and a curse.

I started making my humble little reviews only half last year and because of that, my videos can last maximum 11 minutes (a YouTube limitation). Usually I don't mind, it forces me to think about what I am going to say before I start filming, and I cannot repeat myself too much - all this is good for the viewer, and even then several people tend to fastforward (something that can be seen using Youtube's analysis tools). On the other hand when I want to present a knife with an interesting background (say, a laguiole) it would be fun to be able to use the extra video time that nutnfancy enjoys.

I'm a big fan of your reviews. I watch them regularly.

Thanks for posting them and making them so concise and informative. I've learned a lot about models like Opinels and Bokers from watching your vids on YouTube -- models I would've otherwise overlooked.

It can be hard to find reviews of traditional knives, which I prefer, so stumbling upon your videos some months ago was refreshing.:thumbup::thumbup:

One good thing i have to say is his camera work is very good, not constantly out of focus, dark,or blurry, like some others ive seen.you can at least get a good look at the item he is reviewing.....

personally, while I admit that his reviews are better than the majority of the you tube reviewers I've seen, I find that he tends to go off on long tangents about the philosophy of how the knife might be used and employed, beyond what I find usefull. and so his reviews are (or atleast seem to be) longer than I care to watch.

although, to be fair, I've noticed that with some of cutlerylover's newer reviews as well.

yeah i also thought his zt121 review was extremely negatively biased...he was reviewing it in the "tactical" context; the 121 is a hard use UTILITY knife, not a "tactical" blade, he should have never reviewed it in that context...

it seems he always has to review knives in a tactical context...

I enjoyed Nutnfancy's videos on certain models of folding knives, I watch them to supplement what I already read or knew on BF, Google searches and until recently knife articles in "Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement".

He might be a little long-winded but I can ignore his philosophical sidetracks etc and focus on the actual substance. :p

IMO, he is pretty good for a knife reviewer on Youtube.

Eh, to add another voice to this one, I'm not a big fan of his focus on the 'tactical' use of knives, and feel that probably isn't doing great things for the general appearance of knife users in general.
That said, I still find myself watching those videos, and still being entertained by them. I feel that his videos are well put together and certainly done better than I could do. Even though we may not see eye to eye, his opinions at least seem pretty well thought out for the most part.

yeah NF can say lots to say a little,,he talks funny, and is a nerd, lol,,but I like the guy,,I like his reviews,,he talks knife,,I am a knife nut,,what more can I say,,

i constantly hear of NF but i didn't really want to watch him, now you've made me want to watch his reviews.

His reviews generally have STRUCTURE , thats lacking inmost YT reviews , thats also why the vids can be lenghthy, I like a lot of his knife vids . I dont think he's jumped the shark.
Did any other knife reviewers go to SHOT SHOW ?

I think it's high time that people acknowledge that some knives that are being carried by good people are designed as weapons. Reviewing knives from a tactical standpoint is refreshing to me and I echo the same sentiments in my own YouTube reviews.

As for the appearance of knife users, we need to stop being concerned with appearances and walking on thin ice all of the time. Staying legal is still possible without excusing your choice of knife as a box opener. If gun users started being shy about guns and making excuses for the uses of their "tools" then where would those of us in the U.S. be with our right to bear arms?

Sorry all, a little soapbox action but I can't help myself :foot:

Lemme get this straight--you don't like the way he talks? Don't like how he enunciates his words? If Nutnfancy has truly "lost" you, why don't you just stop watching his reviews? Or do you require others to chime in on the defects that you see with his presentation? Don't worry, it will be okay. Go grab yourself a cookie and a juice box. Be a nice boy.

These kinds of threads pop up all of the time, and will produce people on both sides of the fence. It will be mildly entertaining as well as a complete waste of everyone's time.

If you don't like the thread then don't read it, or post in it.

I like watching his videos on the most part. Some times it takes him 3 min. before he opens the blade though. But it's great to see the knives and he has a good camera that shows good detail.

I gotta agree with most people saying if you don't like him don't watch his videos, and as powernodle says he gets enthusiastic about his knife and gear reviews, and that makes his videos enjoyable to watch, sure he might go on for a long time, but its better than some monotone talking for 5 mintues about their new knife.
