I think the biggest issue is that he isn't a knife enthusiast. He's more of a practical knife user. Which sometimes can go against some of the enthusiasts views. I use to own a Norseman. I could see why it cost $500. Nutnfancy does not see the value because he's looking at it from a practical standpoint. Practically the Norseman is no better than something like a S30V Blur, but from the enthusiasts standpoint the Norseman is lightyears ahead of that same blur.
That's just my opinion though.
Did you read my second comment further explaining what I meant? He is very much a knife enthusiast, otherwise he wouldn't bother doing knife reviews. He simply has his own personal tastes and opinions on knives. That's all. I can't say that I'm a fan as I don't always agree with his views, but I do find some of his reviews/overviews interesting. He has his peculiarities, such as his pronounced accent and his overuse of the word "dude", but there are lots of people who like his reviews.
I like Nutnfancy because he is passionate about his toys. When someone is really into their toys - whether its CRK or Spyderco or whatever - its magnetic. It makes us passionate too, and that's fun. I watch most of his videos.
Nutnfancy is also a major egotistical blowhard. But I recognize that I may have character flaws as well (eh, probably not, but lets pretend), so I try to extend grace to others similarly situated.
Don't like Nutnfancy? That's cool. Then please be quiet about it. There is something somewhat deranged about someone ranting about a mere Youtube reviewer, when its real easy to avoid him. By not clicking on his videos.
But yeah, I like his videos.

Why should people who don't like him be quite? This thread is for EVERYONE those who like him and NOT.
You think those who don't like him should be quite, I think YOU should be quite. See how that works?
You mean "quiet" right?
Agreed, just how I feel. The "gimpiiii g" and "Dudes" make me insane, but I do still watch his videos. Everything in his worls is tactical, even blades that are not at all for that purpose. But his review system does at least give you a good background to the knife hes reviewing and is better than the f'n stupid unboxing reviews, every one of which is the same. I like to combine his reviews along with that crazy russian hard use guy and the apostles reviews to get me started.4 or 5 years ago, whatever you think about his personality, at least his channel was more about the gear.
Now every other video is a political rant, or some personal outing that barely features gear at all.
He thinks he has built himself up past the point of a YouTube gear reviewer and now there's like a "culture" around his channel and we all tune in just to hear his voice and see what he's up to.
He hardly even does knife reviews anymore, and when he does, they are not the knives I'm interested in.
He was a good starting point, but I think he and I have no use for each other anymore.
I think YOU should be quiet.
You've made fun of someone's appearance, and now don't want me to speak. That's not very friendly is it?
If I hated Bed Bath & Beyond, I just wouldn't go there. I would not feel some strange compulsion to tell everyone about it. But for some inexplicable reason, people just love to tell everyone why they dislike a guy they've never met. I think it has to do with a suppressed man-crush, but I can't prove it.
I bet that the people who make fun of him on the internet would be pleasant as peach pie if they met him in person.
Whatevs. Watch him or not. Either way, he still has 203,731,772 more views than either one of us.
Who is "Nutnfancy"? Should I be familiar with him? He has military rank? And this validates him somehow? Guess I'll have to look him up so I can form an opinion about him.
I believe his military rank was referenced in response to someone labeling him a "mall ninja." He's a retired Air Force tanker pilot who flew in direct support of numerous missions over the Middle East. That doesn't validate him as a knife expert, but it certainly calls into question whether or not the label "mall ninja" is fair.
I used to watch a lot of Nutnfancy, not so much anymore.
Like him or not, it's hard to deny that he's been hugely influential in the YouTube reviewer genre. His reviews on knives, in particular, established consistent criteria that he used to evaluate each blade. That was fairly revolutionary. It made it easier to determine whether a particular blade was right for you. My transition from a knife user to a knife enthusiast was, to a degree, shaped by some of his "Hall of Fame" reviews from the 2008-2011 period. Most of the good gear reviewers have copied his methodical, organized approach. I didn't always agree with his criteria, but the info was valuable to shape my own opinion.
Lately I've checked back into his channel to see what was up and been very disappointed. Somehow he's managed to alienate himself from mainstream manufacturers like KAI and Spyderco and only gets crap knives from SOG or Cold Steel to review (OK, I'm not calling SOG or Cold Steel crap, but there's a definite downgrade in the scope of his available knives). I was also put off by the blatant attempts to promote the Nutnfancy persona with patches and gear sales. He's not so much a reviewer as an internet personality these days.
Of course, if I met him some day for a gear check I'd gladly buy him a beer as thanks for promoting and enhancing the review genre.
