Nutnfancy video worth watching

You sir are wrong in your understanding of my statement. What I said was people who need edged weapons(the real operators) don't need youtube to tell them what they need.

Most of the people who need youtube to tell them about knives are the people who are just starting out with knives, as you have done.

This is the part of Trollbane's statement that I responded to. I agreed with him that Tactical is an amusing marketing term and that we, me and him at least, use knives as tools.

When I said it's a mall ninja thing, I was specifically referring to the people who are into the "tactical" hype but have no real need for these "weapons".

So in closing, you're either a mall ninja or not, I don't care, but I wasn't referring to you.

So who were You reffering to? Im curious.

I stopped regularly watching Nutnfancy after his BS SOG Flashback review. I bought that knife specifically on his recommendation only to have to send it back to SOG for a new spring because I could barely deploy the blade. He praised the Flashback and gave it a 9.0 rating a week after meeting with Spencer Frazer at SOG. Nutn' did post an update video downgrading the Flashback to 8.5 but he was still way, way off. The knife is a piece of junk and continues to sit at the bottom of my edc box.

The latest video on his LaRue upper has sure stirred the hornets nest.

I still get a moderate amount of enjoyment from his channel.

It's so easy to hate on him, it pretty much takes no intellectual effort to point out the ways in which he can be insufferable.
But consider what all he has done for the industry.

I'll tell you right now, his review of the Kershaw Skyline from 6 or 8 years ago was pretty instrumental in me purchasing one, and that purchase is what caused me to end up on these forums daily.

This is his hobby. I think it's pretty arrogant to tell someone they're "not doing their hobby right" in your view.
If the guy likes JIMPING BRO! so much that he's actually gonna criticize Phil Wilson to his face for not incorporating it into the design of the Southfork, so be it. That's just him. Roll your eyes and get over it.

At least he took the time out of his life to go to this show and spend an hour making a video I happened to enjoy.
Sure he's a total goofball and I doubt I could tolerate him in person for more than 15 mins, but so what?

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Maybe I am naive, but I never understood all the hate thrown towards Nutnfancy. The guy makes it pretty clear in his videos that these are just his opinions and his statements reflect his needs and how he feels about a certain products. I have actually found some of his videos informative, even if I don't agree with all of his statements, especially since I live in a part of the country where my local sporting goods/hunting stores don't carry a large variety of knives for me to go and handle and examine before purchasing.

That being said of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion and you don't have to agree with me.

Like I said before; I view him as a character. I don't watch much of his stuff these days but when I first started looking at knife reviews I did enjoy his for the simple fact that he actually used them. I get why you dudes don't like him though. I'm indifferent.

As far as the video that was posted; it was cool to watch. Makes me wanna pick a Spydie up.

Just to clear things up...

I don't wear a fanny pack.
I don't care for jimping (gimping).
I don't have an Al Mar or a Skyline.
I have never touched skateboard tape.

Agreed.
If it weren't for Nutn I would probably still be carrying the folder I got from the jet-pep station in town. I certainly would be no where near these forums today and would not have any of the knives that I have and love today. Clicking on a Nutn video for the first time turned me onto some pretty cool concepts and more than a few methods to act them out. His recommendations have influenced me to buy some great items that I had previously never heard of, more than a few times; (Juice s2, Streamlight stylus pro, preon 2, rat 1...) all of which I still use all the time today. I do admit that I tend to sit through his videos much less frequently than I used to and I also tend to disagree with some of his opinions a little more, but I still respect the man. I wouldn't mind meeting him and shaking his hand. As others have said, Nutn is a good resource for beginners. People that know more about what he's reviewing can fast forward to the meat of his videos and still receive helpful information, if not just another perspective. What matters is the man honestly cares about what he's doing and he makes it his work. He's not out to try and deceive people, he's just sharing his opinions and making an honest effort to try and give people good content. If you don't like him, don't watch his videos, but you don't have to hate on him. He supports and fights for gun and knife rights. He's a veteran.

Fanny packs are not cool, and neither is jimping or grip tape. Got it.
Nutnfancy likes jimping, and grip tape, and fanny packs, thus, he is not cool because those things are not cool. And, he's full of himself, which is also not cool.

Glad we've established that the man is not cool. In fact, I think it's safe to say Nutnfancy is a nerd.
And since I've sworn to only watch YouTube videos uploaded by cool dudes, I will never watch a Nutnfancy video, because, as proved above, he is not cool.

I'm cool because I disassociate myself from him and look down on him with contempt. That establishes me as cool. Cool people don't associate with nerds, am I right?!?!!
See below. This is exactly why he sucks. Well put J_Curd.
Misinformation, no matter the channel, is really frustrating; I avoid most YT "experts" for that reason.

No, he made a video saying that people should actually buy counterfeit Hinderers and not the real thing, because the counterfeits were a better value. It's been taken down, but there was a thread here on it and I remember watching it, as I know Scurvy does as well.

I tolerated his long winded tendencies, but that counterfeit Hinderer video was the last time I watched anything of his.

This.

Having gone back and watched reviews of his (yes, even the really long ones), his thoughts about knives I already own seem to be accurate to my experiences with them. Personality aside, he seems to at least put forward accurate information about knives.

I will say that his unsettling attraction to jimping is a little much sometimes, though. :p

The reason people listen to him is that he has a degree of charisma and enthusiasm in his presentation. He's entertaining and effective at communicating. I'm just a newbie but he has guided me to some better affordable blades like the Ontario Rat series. Beyond this, think about the audience, most of whom know little about knives, his delight in the knives he reviews carries over and people buy a LOT of knives based on his reviews. Generally better knives than they would have ever bought otherwise.

A review focusing on the precise steel composition of a knife, titanium/steel interface issues etc. would be huge snooze fest for most people and listening to knife nerds go on about this is unlikely to get many views. Plus, most (not all) knife nerds do not have a particularly compelling speaking voice or presentation manner, I'm sorry, but it's true, regardless of your fantasies most of you (and most people in general) really suck at being compelling public speakers. They're stilted, pedantic and boring to listen to. For all his faults Nutnfancy is a master at drawing newbies in and everyone has to start somewhere.

I think the guy is ok. He's biased towards his particular taste but it's his review and channel. I like he picks out what he thinks is bad and or good. Which I think is seriously lacking in custom knife reviews. His reviews have been helpful to me sometimes. But as I got into higher end knives his reviews have become obsolete for me. But like any other reviewer I listen to the review and take what I can get out of it. I don't think any reviewer is the word of God lol I try to get what I can out of it to make my own decisions. I'm not a huge fan of the guy he does annoy me often and so does Jim Skelton and other people too. But I still get something out of there videos here and there. Which for me is good enough. As for fanny packs there super sweet lol. But the whole him promoting Chinese knockoff hinderer knives did piss me off but he has not done any videos like that recently. And I'll church that up as a D bag moment for him and we all have had those moments.

And I do some videos here and there and mine are boring and lacking charisma too lol truth

Kind of like David Koresh, but with a mouthful of marbles.

Edited to add that that his charisma only appeals to those folks that find that type of charisma appealing. The rest of us would perhaps refer to him in more simple terms; annoying and insufferable.

This, exactly. A+. Same reason I am sorta drawn to CRK and Emerson enthusiasts, even though I'm not one of them. Its fun to hang with someone who is enthusiastic about his toys.

I like Nutnfancy's videos, and have probably watched most of them. But I have always been able to connect with outcasts, nerds, blowhards, losers and all the rest, because I know I'm no better than any of them, and in many respects a lot worse.

Nutnfancy often comes off as truly arrogant, but I'm okay with that, because he's not trying to date my sister. He's just some guy on Youtube who is real easy to ignore if I wanted to. Its easy not to watch his videos if you don't want to, and I'm not sure why people say bad things about Youtube reviewers they don't like instead of just ignoring them. Just don't click on his videos. You don't have to tell me about it.

I just wish everyone had a sweet spirit like I do. ;)

Dude!

I stopped saying dude in every sentence when I stopped getting loaded. That being said, my old channel www.youtube.com/ftwcm was a trainwreck. I had at least a .18 blood alcohol content in every video. I was f***ed up like the proverbial football bat.

So easy to get ripped apart by the general public if you stand out. Eeeeeesh.

On a light note ...

Good vid with some good info and man does Gayle Bradley seems like a solid nice down to earth guy.

Same thing happened to me except I could never get a hold of sog to fix it. I was even actually hung up on when I was able to get through to someone, they put me on hold and then hung up on me. I will never buy a SOG knife again. I actually took that Flashback camping and used it as a throwing knife until it was toast, I don't regret breaking that piece of junk.
