When I tried to message you it says I may not have the permission to do this action, I don't know why?

You need to allow PM's in your settings - you can't send if you opted not to receive PM's when you started your account. Check the Tech Support sub-forum if you can't figure it out. But I did send you VM (to see it, go to your page by clicking your name, and then click Visitor Messages).

I can't even begin to imagine the amount of free swag he must get on a daily basis from makers/companies hoping he'll review their gear. His garage must be jammed.

He probably has the most comprehensive list of knife/gun/gear videos on youtube. Echoing powernoodle he really puts himself out there and does it with enthusiasm. Again, and again, and again. Gotta give the man credit for that.

I used to be a big fan... I even had a few back and forth messages when I had a youtube channel. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Then the videos got longer and more political. Then there were too many to keep up with. I still watch em now and then but I have to use the navigation bar.

If you don't like his stuff don't watch it. Simple as that. Why is this topic relevant? :p

I think he is a good guy, and only agree with maybe half of his opinions on gear....but 100 percent on his support of the 2nd amendment. the dude was a LT. Colonel in the Air Force and a pilot, like his dad. He is an avid outdoors guy and if you hate him cool. but you all are talking about him, no one is talking about you. got his own thread...Anyway to each his own. Start your own youtube channel about anything you want. he is just a dude giving his opinions...kinda like your doing....rock on

He doesn't know how to tighten up a vid to get the pertinent information across without the bull. Hard for me to watch.

High respect for his service
As for gear reviews he is an idiot look at his coldsteel pocket bushman review , he drives it into dry hard wood then torques the knife to the side hard enough that most hatchet handles would break and some bearded hatchet heads would not survive then bad mouths cold steel because the blade broke.

I dont mind his videos. Im not subscribed but I regularly check his channel, because he has a steady stream of gear reviews than I find entertaining. I dont get go into his philosophy or political videos, but I do enjoy his gear testing videos, regardless of whether I agree with him or not. I just like gear talk.

Saying he's self important is ignoring the size of his audience. If you want to be real about it, he has more reach and clout than about any other media personality in the knife/firearm industry. If anything he's modest about it. Not even people that have a strong following from magazines or cable have been able to tap into the following Nutnfancy has built. Youtube channels get more exposure than any other media outlet in the industry, and Nutnfancy is about the 2nd or 3rd most popular channel related to firearm/knife content. Travis Haley, Hickok45, Colion Noir, MAC, none of them can deliver the consistency in terms of exposure that Nutnfancy can. The only channel I can think of off the top of my head that consistently outperforms TNP is FPS Russia. Manufacturers can't even match the reach that a channel like Nutnfancy gets through Outdoor channels on cable. He puts out 3-4 videos in a week, and routinely those 3 or 4 videos will get twice as many eyes on a product as eyes that view all the pages of this forum in a month. His channel edges out the largest forums in the firearm industry, and those views are spread out over thousands of pages and topics - his topics are concentrated into about a dozen videos.

He had a hobby making these videos, and it has grown into something very valuable to companies that make a lot of coin. It is hard to quantify the media value that Nutnfancy represents, but I can't think of anybody on this forum that has a fraction of the reach TNP has. He's a powerhouse.

Now, I can understand not liking his videos. They're 3-4x as long as what is considered a long YouTube video. He does use a formula though, and usually sticks to that. I can understand not agreeing with some of his philosophy and opinions. He's as knowledeable about the range of topics he covers as anyone here though, and a lot of the rants against him that I have seen are biased and baseless. Some people act like he's inconsequential or that his channel is worthless, and that's far from the case. Was Whitney Houston a blowhard because she knew she could sing? Well, add up the views on TNP videos and you're going to get a number that's larger than WHitney Houston's album sales. I don't know how many orders of magnitude larger, but it's going to be significantly larger. Considering his reach, which is the primary accomplishment of any online media source, he's a humble man with a project that he considers important.

That being said, I like think I would like hanging out with Nutnfancy, but I don't care for his videos or Youtube in general. He's operating at a level of information lower than what I seek out, and it's pretty rare that I ever get anything out of the 45 minute videos he puts up. There's no reason to be a hater though; he puts out regular content that a lot of people enjoy, he's relatively knowledgeable about the products, he's fairly intelligent, he has a plan about what he's doing and where he's going, and he stands up for the industry when there is a need (of course, the fact that Ares Armament was raided by the ATF shortly after a TNP call to action video raises some questions about how helpful such attention is). If you're expecting anything else from a YouTube personality, I don't know what to tell you.

On my recommended on the YouTube app, it used to be that at least 50% of it was nutnfancy. The only real reason im subscribed to him is because for some reason if your subscribed to someone, its far less likely for one of their videos to come up on recommended.

lol that's hilarious.

See, I can imagine someone with an enthusiasm for knives and firearms stumbling on Nutnfancy and staring at the screen like they're watching somebody try and unstop a toilet. THinking "why is this surfer so opinionated about guns". I hate to say it, but some people that try to come off as nice just get on my nerves. There is a point where amicable becomes condescending (I don't think nutnfancy reaches that threshold, but that don't mean other people don't). He's not your flavor, so change the channel. We don't all go off on rants about how much of a blowhard Oprah is every day.

Even though he's famous, there are people that wouldn't want to have a beer with him because he gets on their nerves. I don't see why people make him their arch nemesis over it though....

I like his videos and when I was starting to get into knives I was very much influence by his advice . And I actually like his advice on POU ( philosophy of use ) I don't like 3.25 inch and bigger for edc purpose . I know a lot of people get bent out of shape when he say this is a tactical knife or a great edc knife . One of my first purchases I made was the kershaw skyline thanks to his advise I will say he was spot on . He also like the kershaw chill and I actually hated it . I don't blame him I just did not like the fact that the blade was too long for me . Like him or not he does help sell knives for the big three company .

He can be pompous and irritating but as peope have said he brings a lot of business. He loves what he does and isnt afraid to tell people what he thinks which is admirable.

I think anyone has the right to express their criticism of another person's advice. Someone need not have been in the Service for X numbers of years, have a Youtube channel and support any particular right for their opinion to have value. I also think people confuse criticism and/or commentary with "hate". Granted this is all the rage these days. I agreed with his advice that 4/7s flashlights are good. But this agreement was based on my experience. I disagree that a large knife combined with WD40 is somehow comparable to an axe. This conclusion was also based on my experience. Or as you stated, to each their own.

You can have a guy that can't complete a sentence without saying "um" seven times and holds his hand up behind the knife or gun trying to get his crappy camera to focus, or you can have NutnFancy. You choose. The man discovered that he could make good money doing videos and spent some of that money on production equipment so he could make even more. I'm sure he could care less if some people don't like him, he's laughing all the way to the bank.

Three points: opinions without evidence faulty or factual are useless as there is nothing to debate, their is merit in his videos if nothing for the fact of the the variety and scope of his subject material, if their is a topic or person you wish to know about either go to the source or ask direct questions so you can form your own opinion. I apologize in advance if I offend anyone just hate to waste time on nonsensical issues

I have watched one video of Nutfancy
He attempted to chop a branch useing a large splitting axe
He did not know how to use an axe, and did not know that he had a splitting axe in his hand

He then spent the rest of the video dissing the use of an axe as a good outdoor tool

One video of Nutfancy was enough for me
