Nutnfancy?

He is a POG, and an annoying one at that. That being said, he is an enthusiastic guy who goes to great lengths to review all sorts of products. I can't fault the guy for that in the least. He is pretty professional about his reviews, they are standardized and exacting. He doesn't really try to pretend to be something that he isn't and he doesn't represent himself as an expert so really I have nothing against him or his reviews. I wouldn't stack with the guy, but for Youtube reviews of gear, you could do a lot worse.

he's a big goofy dude, and he's the first to admit it - you gotta give him that, and i can respect that. And he was one of the first guys out there doing actual vids (instead of just shooting his mouth off on some forum) about what he does, why he does it, and what works or doesn't work. Plus he does have 20 years of military service under his belt (can't say anything bad about that).

He has done a ton of actual outdoor testing of gear for one primary purpose - to provide viewers with data points (unlike many of these wannabe's on yt who do "reviews" but you never see them outside actually using the products they are reviewing - that is lame). What you do with the data points nutn' provides is up to you.

I think most people who don't like him haven't watched enough to know why they don't like him. The same paradox applies to rush limbaugh - most people who tell you they hate him have never even listed to his show. My bottom line is this: When it comes to any youtuber - if they provide information from a first-hand demonstration about something i'm interested in learning about, then i'll check out their vids. Then, i decide for myself if the information is useful to me. That's what yt is supposed to be for anyway. Well, that and stupid cat vids... Hehehe....

Btw, i'm not a fan-boy, but i can tell you one thing for sure... "the owl is on the shed."

I love his reviews, he actually makes a quality product on YouTube which says a lot. Most of the knife reviews I see are just a list of stats I can get from the company's website in two seconds, along with a bunch of um's, uh's and dead air. I don't agree with everything the guy says but I don't know anybody that I do agree with completely.

That being said, I'd like to see someone else put in the time and money and still be objective albeit opinionated after what I think is going on six years. Btw, I like the sound effects. Deal with it.

I read about his reviews here on bfdotcom a couple of years ago and went on utoob to check it out.The video I went to was about some knife and the poor fellow had a little cut, were talking like paper cut little, and the fuss he made and first aid he rendered unto it spoke volumes to me.I hit the stop, then back keys, and never ventured into his soft, silly little world again.Oh,did I mention he was dressed like he was getting ready to board a Chinook?

I congratulate him for succeeding beyond whatever might have been anybody's wildest dreams at building an audience on youTube. He is the poster boy for Persistence.

But when I am googling a potential purchase and a :30 to :45 NutnFancy review turns up, I never click it. I don't have half an hour of my time to waste listening for the twenty second nugget of possibly useful info buried somewhere in his unedited mass of disorganized circular ramblings. Needles in haystacks.

If someone can't adequately describe the pro's and con's of a knife or other simple tool in three minutes, then he's not doing a review, he's just producing infotainment filler for the Very Bored and/or Very Young.
YMMV.

Tallahassee,

I agree completely, but you are discribing a general problem of uTube reviews
Unscripted, unfocused chatter
But NutFancy also tends to be quite longwinded

49 minutes of opinion, from a person whose opinion holds no value to me or anyone else, means nothing. His videos are a (very big) waste of time.

Watched his videos on and off since 08 or 09. Back then, before Bladereviews.com, the Edge Observer etc it really seemed to be THE place for new modern production folders. So what do I think?

An Air Force POG who loves making up his own acronyms and using them within his own sub-group that he created with his own two hands (and a video camera). A leader of those who like to follow. An internet operator in the true sense of the world who calls a rifle a "weapons platform" and equates his socks with "tactics". Ba-man personified, but most probably not a bad guy to hang around with if you know him. Also, unlike very many other people on YouTube he seems to take firearms safety seriously which is always nice.

In my opinion? He's a one trick pony with illusions of "tactical" grandeur. He peddles his view on politics, guns, knives and other gear without the real-world experience he so often claims other people lack. He hides behind false modesty and his army of sycophants. In his earlier videos there was a modesty as well as more relevance. Less talk of "go to war" and more talk of "I shot this on the Air Force pistol team, this is how we did it". Every time he goes to the range he's "Operating" in his "Area of operations". Every time he shoots a .22 lever gun he's kitted up to the teeth. Those of us who have worn body armour for work hate the bloody things when we don't need them, just a little niggle from my side. Also, why is it that these tacticool ninjas always have plate carriers but never even use bump helmets? Tripping and falling causing trauma to my head is as if not more likely to mess me up as is getting shot in the chest. But that's just nine years in the infantry speaking, maybe Joe tanker-pilot knows better about what works in is "AoR".

Sometimes I wonder if this development comes less from himself (him being a solid Ba-personality) and more from the pressure he puts himself under. I believe he truly feels that he has to help those less knowledgeable than himself to the point where he's no longer having any fun, where what started out as a fun job on the side has turned into a chore (like many big YouTube channels). Maybe this switch happened at SHOT a few years back when the commentary switched from "it's so cool to be here" to "I do this for you guys" to "Don't you know who I am?!". Pretty soon it became "If I don't get XX views....I'm not motivated" and "Well, that video did not get XX views, I'm not sure I want to continue" rather than "I love doing these videos!".

Politics and his repetitive style aside (which are subjective values), production quality is often high and his size used to make some producers stand to attention. Also, he used to supply quite decent coupon codes (which is always nice).

Has he turned me on to some knives? Yes.
Does he tell me things I can't figure out by reading the catalogues? No.
Do I think he is partly responsible for the growing amount of good and free training tips available on YouTube? Yes.
Do I consider him to be the grown version of a boy in a basement showing off his toys (with good production values)? Yes.
Should you listen to my opinions? I dunno'.

I'm just a leg, the only Operators I hang out with on a daily basis man phone lines and I don't carry folders to stab people. I'm pretty sure Nutnfancy shoots better than I do, especially when it comes to pistols, but I don't much care. I have a problem with the Air Force in general and officers of said branch in particular - they seem to be a bunch of wind bags who think flying makes them experts of what I do. Also, they love their acronyms. But that's just me keeping it real, YMMV. ;)

Having reading through this thread; I have concluded that much of the information, from this forum, I have assumed to be intelligible is in fact from unintelligible and very close minded sources. These short winded, absolutely bull shit comments about how everything he does is opinionated is just absurd. I mean how ignorant do you have to be to to come to the conclusion that the guys "opinion" is baseless and hold no value? You can literally go and watch over 100 videos of him actually using a knife in a practical seance. He even says nearly every video what he is judge everything off of and puts clips of him actually using the knife to illustrate this. I mean how could you possible expect anyone to take anything you say serious after you say someone who has spent years upon years actual doing the work and testing knives out; then fitting it into multiple roles of life. You then dismiss his work as saying hes fucking annoying, so it mean shit. My mind is actually fucking blown right now. I can't even put together a truly coherent rebuttal to this ignorance because I'm a bit taken back by the sheer stupidity your willing attach to your forum handle. Listen, this guy fills a niche for exactly what he enjoys and he actually provides the video to back up what he says. One should be able to decipher the information that he give and apply it to what is most important to you. I stated out with guns, then got into knives, partly because of his videos on them. I quickly learned his information was more or less strictly utilitarian in nature and took what I needed from what he had to offer. Kept me from a lot of shitty knives and helped me pick some amazing ones. Yet, for me to read some many negative comment with a bases of: Hes a tool. Hes annoying, it opinionated, it's to informative for my tiny brain; really leads me to a very glaring conclusion. Some of you are so narrow minded and the "knowledge" or should I say, ignorant bullshit, is something that should be left to your circle jerks.A place where you can show off your personified dicks that look pretty and never get used; or maybe you can join the intelligible world and understand the information given is what is important not the person; Judge it on that basis. I don't really like to do the whole judging thing but I feel I was able to pin point a couple of imbecilic people in this thread. Shit I don't even like the dudes mannerisms or his voice but I understand his knowledge and experience...

I like Nutn....in a small amounts. If it is something I am interested in, I'll watch. There were a few times where I was going to buy online and he pointed out a flaw or feature in a video that I hadn't really noticed and I didn't buy. Later I ran across the knife in person and completely agreed.

I'd say he saved me money, but in all likelihood I've spent more on knives and guns with the help of his reviews.

I do understand that you find the information presented useful

My job as a Technical Communicator is to write documents and develop videos for engineers with ESL; for them to service highly complex machinery
I would say I am well placed to analyze informational videos and their efficiency

My professional view is these videos are highly inefficient for the ratio of information to time investment

I like Gump.
I don't like Nut'n.
Nut'n video's are unwatchable & too long. He's been doing it for long enough to have improved, but he hasn't.

Thanks - an immature, name-calling, rambling rant is about the level of discourse I would expect from someone who finds his videos "informative." But I'm glad you felt compelled to add that you "don't really like to do the whole judging thing." Hilarious. :D

But please tell me - what "knowledge and experience" of his are you referring to, exactly?

"Thanks - an immature, name-calling, rambling rant is about the level of discourse I would expect from someone who finds his videos "informative.""

The the rambling rant part maybe fairly accurate, yet I find the rest of my statements a be an accurate conclusion. Perhaps you should reread the thread and my "rant" and connect the dots.

"what "knowledge and experience" of his are you referring to, exactly?"

I clearly stated utilitarian. You can literally watch video after video of this.

Neeman, I would agree they are very long winded reviews, but I do find plenty of useful information in the ones that I have watched. I prefer to do my research before purchasing anything. I normally send multiple hours reading and or watching reviews on most the stuff I buy to alleviate wasted money on products that don't fit my exact needs and expectations. So I do respect the knowledge he gives regardless if I like the guy or not. Perhaps I expected something other then youtube worthy comment threads from this forum.
