October MI Gathering

We can firm up supply details at the last minute, but if everyone brings what they offered I'm sure we'll be in good shape. As far as equipment goes, bring what you want. We can always leave extra stuff in the car.

Jeff

Just a heads up for Jeff and Andy. I`ll be bringing your .45 grips and Keebler Nessmuk to the gathering.

Thanks John - I'll be ready to even up with you.

It's been very Fall-like around here. Perfect campfire weather!

Jeff

Yeah, I'm still here too! Just been having a bit of a hard time lately with depression! Between my own health problems, as if it hasn't been bad enough, our Sister-In-Law, that we loved dearly died on Sept. 6th! She was only 56 years old! Along with that going on we also have several family friends that have died recently, and several others that are having health problems bad enough to worry a lot about! It's like I have been saying, if you just happen to be one of the so called lucky ones to live a long life, you just get to sit around and watch all of your good friends and your family die around you! Not to speak of the aches, pains, and medical problems that you have to live through as time goes on! "What a Life"! So, it just hasen't been a good time for me lately! I've had to go see my doctor, and get set up with some other kinds of doctors that cover that area a little more exclusively! Problem is there are so many people anymore, that you can't get in to see some of these doctors anymore, for two and three months some times now days! There are just more people than there are doctors! I have a long time friend that is 71 years old, and has just found out that he has prostate cancer, and it has to be removed but, they can't find him a spot on the surgical list with the doctor that he needs to do the surgery, because he is so booked up in advance! Well, you know you just can't predict when you are going to get these kinds of diseases!

Anyway, I am still hoping to come out for the gathering but, after thinking about things! Those bunks look pretty small and hard to me! I'm really not sure with my back still feeling the way it does, that I can handle that! I am really thinking about bringing what I can to sleep in the back of my SUV! I have an air mattress that fits in the back of the SUV perfectly, were I can be up off the ground and comfortable! jds1, do you think there is any problem with doing that in this park? I think I can make it to the cabin from the parking lot but, I may need some help getting some of the things I'm bringing with me from the parking lot to the cabin, and then back to the SUV after we are finished and ready to leave! If that will work out, that really leaves two bunks in the cabin available! Is there any fee to get into the park? I can still pay my $20.00 for my share of the cabin use, I just don't think I will be able to sleep comfortable in it!

It is really starting to look like the weather is going to be perfect for it! All of you guys think about what I have said here and if there is any problems that I haven't worked out or thought of, please let me know! Like I said, I am still having to be very careful of what I do, and how fast I do it! It's usually a good thing for me to sit and think about things for a few minutes before I rush in and do anything right at the moment! My brain doesn't seem to be working all that great lately either, so I just want everyone to know! Yvonne tells me something and fifteen minutes later, I can't remember what she told me!

I will still make the beans the day before hand to bring, and probably throw a container of freezer pickles in the cooler, and I will definately bring a six or two of beer to share! If you guys think it will still work out for me coming out! I guess I should be thinking about whatever else I will need to be bringing camping wise!

If you think that things won't work out this way be sure to let me know and I'll just stay at home! I don't want to get that far away from home and maybe have some kind trouble! I'll be waiting to hear from you guys! Sorry for the gloom and doom!

Take care and stay safe!

Tom

Tom,

I'm sorry to hear of your losses. I hope a visit with the guys will raise your spirits. There is a small parking area right off the road for use with this cabin and I'm sure you could sleep in your SUV. The walk is only 700 feet from the parking area and we can haul your stuff there and back. So just show up and enjoy yourself! As far as fees go, there is an $8 charge per car for a park pass and I'm picking up the cabin rental for our group. Take care and see you in 10 days!

Jeff

I was waiting for Jeff to post, did not feel I was qualified. I`m sorry to hear of your loss, and that you are feeling down. I agree, a weekend with the guys will really help out.

Thirds on the condolences and you know you will have a great time. We'll get your stuff there no problem!

Thanks to all for the support, and I will plan to see you guys there on the fifteenth! I'm sure that may help give me some time to forget about some of my own problems in life at the moment, if even for just a short time! Some times we need that I guess! Life gets to complicated and too many things running through your brain at one time eventually effects you in unfavorable ways!

And Sean, I haven't forgotten about you and the last e-mail you sent! I was real sorry to hear about your Dad! I will plan to catch up with you on the fifteenth, if not before!

Everyone take care and stay safe on your way to the cabin!

Tom

mqqn, thanks but, I guess I won't need that ride after all! I figured I will probably need a little more space than I wanted to take up in your truck, so that will free up another seat for someone else if there's somebody that needs a ride, and I really appreciate the offer!

jds1, can you send me a map of the area, and give me some kind of idea of where I am shooting for again! Can't seem to find that thread again! What's the name of the park and what town is it close to, so I can locate it on the internet and find it on the map! Thanks Bud!

Tom

One week from tomorrow! Here is the area map again. You'll be taking I-94 East to Exit 153 which is Clear Lake Road. Take Clear Lake Road North to Trist Road, take Trist Road West to the cabin, which is located just East of Seymour Road. On the map link you'll see a marker for the riding stable where the cabin is. The parking for the South Fork cabin is on the South side of Trist. As soon you see the series of red barns get ready to turn in the parking area.

We can all head directly to the cabin on Saturday morning 10/15. Show up as early as you like, I'll already be there. John already has my cell phone number, just PM me if anyone else needs it too.

I think we have most of the details worked out, but post any last minute questions here for group discussion.

Jeff

You guys better start thinking of a contest, I finished up the knife for a prize this morning.

I don't know if anybody wants to demo stuff, but I thought about sharing how to tie a few knots/hitches. We use a few at work for life safety, that could get carried over to camping uses. Y'all might know them all already it was just a thought.

If y'all want to try it let me know and I'll pick up some rope at Harbor Freight that we can cut up and use to practice with.

Hi guys -

Loving the north of Canada, but not getting consistent access.

Contest?

How about each person must build a trap from materials that are found on site.

John will be the judge, and he would base his decision on the traps ability to catch food.

Alternately, we could vote as a group.

Just one idea from a semi-intoxicated vacationer.

Looking forward to the northwoods gathering!

Thanks jds1 for the e-mail! I will carry your number with me in case I have any trouble but, I think I'm good for now! I was telling kyturkey, that after looking at this place from the air and satallite, if there was any place that you could run into and get eaten by a bear, or abducted by alien beings, this would be the place it could happen! Ha! Ha! This place is in the middle of nowhere!

Anyway, I will plan on seeing you all next Saturday morning some time! Everybody be careful out there and have safe trips!
