I've been waiting to get a text for a while now. Glad to hear this man!

I called and sent a text yesterday when we got home but figured you didn't get it unless you was down at E's shop on WIFI.

The snarkers are all out in the bush i guess.... its been a lonely night in snark town.

And whats up with revolution? are they going all sci-fi with the show or something??? The ending was not what I was expecting from this show at all. If he comes back a zombie im going to stab myself. As if theres not enough magical fantasy crap on TV already. I was hoping this stayed more realistic. The idea is awesome, I like it, no power, survive, got it cool!!! but if they go all magic fairy tell im done with it.

Gonna leave in a about a half hour to southern Illinois. Gonna hit Garden of the Gods today, and whatever else we can do, and probably Rim Rock, and Pounds Hollow tomorrow. The cabins are on 77 acres, and supposedly there's trails there too, so I'll probably check those out as well.

there are scorpions in the basement. snacks.

Found the carcasses, no live ones yet.

Y'all suck man I'm waiting for a freaking ride to my car from security at work. I do have a few surprises for y'all though when we get there:D

Looking forward to it!

Sounds like a good time.

As an experienced drunken knife sharpener, I have a bit of advice.

Just because the knife doesn't feel sharp, doesn't mean it is dull. It just means your fingers are numb.

:D

Derek and Pointy were the only ones really sharpening, nobody cares about their thumbs anyway. Thanks for the tip though!

yeah, zero texts or calls received so far. We've been at the house all night, no reason to rough it with floor space available. Stayed up till 4 drinking, back up at 8. Wifi is working for Internet only. I'm a silly redneck, I don't understand technology.

Have a good time Warrior!!
Thanks man, should be fun. This one is a freeb. Mom came over a few weeks ago, and said that we should do an over nighter, somewhere of our choice. We chose southern Illinois, and off we go.

Been sick since Tuesday, felt better yesterday so I worked in my shop, woke up today worse with a really bad sore throat... I haven't been sick in about 4 years..

Packing up the jeep and heading out to the boonies for a few days. Meeting a couple of my out of state cousins for some R&R and liver abuse! Been a little mentally stressed for a while. Be nice to get away for a few. Gonna get a chance to play with a new experimental M-18. Probably won't have internet so I'll catch up with you guys Sunday. Thaks again for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers for my daughter. You guys are the best!

Any faults you guys notice? Anything that you think could be better thought out? Not changing the blade shape, but does the edge geometry or size offer any problems that you guys can think of? And just curious, It wont be before Xmas for sure... But besides handle material, what other info would I need to include to have a maker make this for me?

Have fun man, I have to wait till saturday, but I am going dove hunting and maybe pop a hog or two.

That would be one heck of a piece to make. Difficult grinds, for sure. Which side is the sharpened side? Both? A stock removal type would have a tough time making that, given the size of stock you'd need; although Aldo could certainly provide the stock for it, there would be a lot of waste. Forged would likely be better. And I have to say, 1/4" stock is WAY too thick for a sword, IMO. You'd also definitely want to mention POB (typically right below the crescent, which means that there's a lot of finicky things that would need to happen if you want 15" in the crescent, but only 9 in the handle and unsharpened part of blade), desired weight, hardness, what you want to do with it, etc.

Also, found another use for a Becker. My keyboard on my laptop has been giving me issues. I've been using my 16 to pry the keys off, remove the hair and gunk and stuff that's made it's way under the keys, and then replacing. It's like a whole new computer!

Thanks for the reply on the subject :)

LMAO, no doubt it would be a challenge :D And yes both sides sharp at different angles though, I just have to make this difficult LMAO, outer for chopping wood, inner for slicing through brush like a kukri.

I might could go a little thinner, but its not intended to be the same a sword, Im wanting it designed as more of a outdoor knife than fighter, but with this design because I love it LMAO. What thickness would you recommend?

POB, Id like be on the neck towards the crescent blade, so blade heavy,
weight, I dont mind either way.
Hardness, I want this done professionally, but around 58 would be fine with me.

If this what made, and looked anywhere near as nice as I imagine, it would most likely be hung on the wall and not used, but id still want it made for hard use, even if I just display it.

Talk about a pain to sharpen!

Talk about a pain to sharpen!

Thats why it would be 52100, stuff doesnt need to be sharpened often, and holds the edge like nobodies business.

Out of every steel I have tested 52100 has stayed sharp the longest. I have tested quite a few carbon and stainless steels, but none of them has been as good to me personally as 52100. Not even the beloved Infi can top some properly heat treated 52100 in edge retention. The stuff has edges made of diamonds or something LMAO

Proportions are way off. That drawing is only 6-7" inside the crescent. Given the handle shape, I'm not sure you'll get much use out of the back edge. Looks expensive to make and hard to heat treat because of the dimensions. Looks cool. MANY pictures Required if you have it made!!

If you're gonna go that route, that handle doesn't look like it would be good for the reverse grip. And I'd agree that 1/4" is too thick. If you want to clear brush with it you want it to be light because the blade will cleave straight through and then you have to stop it, and you will get tired pretty quick having to stop that much weight. Even 3/16th's might be a bit thick and heavy for that. Especially with a 21" blade. If you actually end up using it outdoors you'd probably be better off with a shorter blade. I would try to scale it back to about 14".

I don't think you'll be able to do a faithful recreation while making it a very effective woods tool. I would say if you really want it, shoot for a display piece and don't really worry about the functionality of it.

Another thing would could try is shop around online for a large machete with a wide blade and cut the shape out from that, then you'd have a user on the cheap. Maybe it could be your prototype to help you finalize your design before dropping some serious coin on a labor-intensive custom blade and hopping it turns out to be what you wanted. Or just for prototype's sake you could find any large flat sheet of metal and cut something out, doesn't have to be hardened. Just something to help you sort out the details. Even cutting out of wood just to get an idea of the size.
