Official 2013 Mini Knife KITH!

Just incase I don't get the subhilt finished, I do have another one done and ready to go. Things can go wrong on these all the way up to the very end, but I'm gonna try my hardest to get it done! Having a heat wave of 100+ temps right now, so getting into the shop is tough. It can get 130 in my shop on hot days!

Stacy, nice pair! The "big" one looks like 25:1 and the smaller one 1/5 of that?

OK, I'm cutting it close, but I have everything fit up. I will heat treat tomorrow, assemble, and give it a polish. I'll post pics when I'm done. I'm pleased with it. I scrapped the D2, and used some of the 15n20 I have that I have put aside to make Damascus with. I broke the small drill bit I need to pin the handle on the tang, so I have to wait until tomorrow.

Heat treat and tempering were done last night. I am going for breakfast with the inlaws this morning, then its sanding, and final assembly. I wasn't able to do my best work, as I got a bit behind at work, and with my courses (I am working towards my Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing) but I think its a nice little piece. I made a 1 brick forge for this, so I wouldn't waste resources. I was shocked how quickly it came up to and held 1500f. I have a pyrometer, so I know the temps. I bought MAPP gas, since the last time I tried to use a small torch with propane, I maxed out at 1250f, but it was overkill. I had no problem using the firebrick with propane and getting and holding temp. I quenched in Canola, and tempered twice for 2h at 375f.

A little more work on the handle of the Tarzan knife yesterday. Graham has been busy with summer stuff, job hunting, etc., but he still has a mini pirate sword that he's been working on. He's been working on the handle also, the color isn't what he wanted.

Cool stuff guys!

Deadline is tomorrow Midnight pacific time! Or if you sneak in somtime before I get up I guess that's fine too.

I got terribly busy with work and the 10 days of 105+ temps didn't allow safe working in the shop for me, so the subhilt is still not finished. I do have another several that are ready to go and will decide which one goes out!

Remember to post a picture of the finished knife and "its done and ready to ship". I will get addresses out a few days later.

Been really busy with college stuff for next semester so I don't think I'll be able to finish my kukri in time.
And Paul, thanks for the compliment! It's definitely a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.
Sorry that is have to back out of this, I'll be more prepared next year though!

its done and I'm ready to ship!!!!

I can do a few more touchups before it goes out, but I'm, basically ready.

3 3/4" total length.
Its 15n20, heat treated to Rc59 (if HT worked as planned)
Brass guard. (fit isn't perfect, but not enough time to start it over.) The pin is a 1/16" brass brazing rod.
The handle is the tip of an Ibex horn.
the handle width isn't to scale due to a drill press malfunction, but it isn't too much out.
File work on spine.
Sanded to 1000g. I will likely sand it to 2000g before shipping.
I will sharpen it tomorrow. (I've had a couple beer admiring it. I will do a better job tomorrow :).)

Sheath is drying, and will be ready tomorrow as well.

Here is Graham's. CPM-S30V pirate cutlass, brass guard. This is the last cutlass Graham is going to make. I believe this is his third.

Just a couple finishing touches on the handle for mine. Should have the pic up in a couple hours.

Ok guys, some good stuff! Charles, I'll let you post yours up in a bit when its finalized, but for all intents and purposes the 2013 Mini Knife KITH is over!

Much smaller group this year, don't know if there is wanning interest in this, or if other things just got in the way. I will have to think about next year if there is going to be a mini KITH again. Its up to you guys, I don't mind hosting it, but I won't stop making minis either. I do plan on finishing up the subhilt fighter.

I will get the names and addresses out in the next few days, please be expecting and email from me!

Here's my entry. I rehandled the Tarzan inspired mini I made for the KITH last year. Interesting that Bear Grylls has a very similar knife on the market now. I'm really proud of the blade on this one. Very thin and smooth. Everything else I tried to make this year just didn't turn out right. I've had a lot of other projects going on that weren't knife related and I just didn't have the enthusiasm this year.

I really hoped to see more completed this year. I think part of the issue is timing. As spring and summer approach, our lives move out of the shop. The KITH might garner more participation if held in early spring or late fall when the weather is crappy. I wouldn't want to see it interfere with the Christmas KITH, though.

I hope it runs next year. I really enjoyed this. I look forward to what I can accomplish with better planning, and more skills as I get more practice.

Ok guys, name draw is done! Somehow, one members shipping info has totally vanished from my files, so once I hear back I will be sure to send that one out as well.

Emails going out tonight!

Thanx to all for making minis!

I got all the shipping info emailed out now! Be sure to let me know if you did not get it.

Post up pics when you get yours!

Thanx to all who joined in! I will talk with some of you about the KITH for next year, get some ideas and such.
