Official 2013 Mini Knife KITH!

Dropped mine off at the PO today.

Anyone else get theirs in the mail yet?

I meant to send mine yesterday, but it went today. I paid for tracking information, and they estimate its 8 days to get there.
 
Mine went out yesterday. I didn't put up photos earlier beyond the one snapshot because I try and not compete with some of the newer makers on KITHs.

Here are some more detailed shots and description.
The set is a circa 1600 style Italian rapier and main-gauche ( left hand dagger). The pair are made in W2 and hardened. The fittings are sterling. The tangs are tapped and the pommels are threaded. Handles are ebony. They are 100% to scale at 10:1, and constructed exactly as a full size blade. Glass topped display case.

I was apprehensive regarding this kith, and I feel pleased and ashamed with my offering. I can do better work, and know my offering has many flaws that more attention to detail would have easily fixed, but life got in the way. I showed it to 10 people and all thought they would like me to make them one, but that is a far cry from sending a knife to another maker. For my own satisfaction, I started building a second mini, and will ship it to my recipient and make sure its finished to my best standards, based on my current skill. This would make me feel much better about my contribution. I have three weeks off in August and plan to spend most of it honing skills.
 
I'd be psyched to get yours, Willie, as I sure Graham would be. It looks nice and this KITH is purely about the spirit of the gift. None of us do this for a living and no one expects perfection, we only hope that the next one is better than the last.

Do you have a forge, Xander?

Warren - your work is more than adequit! You did a fine job and as long as you paid attention to scale it will be well received! Remember, this kith often has people who have never made a mini before and even some excellent makers miss out on some little details!

Thanks guys. I can be a bit hard on myself. I can be a perfectionist especially when it comes to something I give to someone else. There are just SO MANY THINGS I want to do better on the next one. I have grinding marks I couldn't sand out, cut too deep with the file around the handle, a void in the handle, guard fitup could be better, the grind could have been narrower prior to sharpening etc. I will let it go (keeps repeating to myself) and make the next one taking these issues into account.

I originally had a western plainsman in mind when I made that set, mesquite handle, bronze guard, file steel crudely forged with minimal shaping. Simple hawk with birch haft due to its straight grain and straight growing nature. The haft and head are coated with BLO so it shouldn't rust, and gives it a bit of the old worn tool look I think.

Willie71 - I got word that your knife shipped out and will likely sit in customs for a week before delivery. So if anything changes or happens I will let you know.

If the receiver is charged customs on mine, I will pay it. The girl at the post office wrote a value of $100.00 on the package,LOL, but i listed it as a gift. If it isn't received by Tuesday or Wednesday next week, I'll check the tracking and figure out where it is. Cross border shipping typically is 1-2 weeks, and occasionally 3-4, particularly in holiday seasons. I assume the receiver is supposed to be surprised, so I haven't posted the tracking info.
 
Just got my mini from Charles! Cool little chopper! It will go well with my other minis.

Mine arrived today. I'll try and shoot a photo later, but it is a real nice mini-Bowie. It has a sheath, too.

Thank you for the miniature rapier and dagger. I am going to love these knives. Don't worry, the knives are going to be taken care of really well, just like a knife collector would.
