Official SURVIVE! picture thread

^^^Yes!!!^^^

Is this a pic after all your use? It looks brand new!

Yes, the photo is from today! But it's not like I've been doing anything crazy to it, just regular chores and a little batoning. The new finish is amazing, but it's not bulletproof so it's starting to show a few (tiny) scratches = character. :)

Nice! Feel like taking any close up pics?

From my use and pics online I've never seen terribly worn tumbled finish from old models. Would you say new finish shows wear more?

Thanks, trevitrace! I was on the Busse site and the closest thing I saw was the SoB. I don't know a whole lot about all these fancy knife brands :)

Yours looks great with the kydex and well loved. Makes a nice pair with the 3.5!

Here are some pics of mine from today.

This is the same knife I used to dig in the sand a bunch, cut through metal cans, baton and carve, throw... It's been sharpened, but that's it. No more signs of rust on or near the edge, no scratches in the finish other than very near the edge. I'm sold, this finish beats both the stonewash and the cerakote

Where did you get the Handkerchiefs? Which Busses are those?

And yeah, so weird the 4.1 wasn't snatched up immediately.

the hanks are from sanborn canoe, basically a hipster canoe company, but they make a damn good camp hank, and as mentioned they are ASH's a Battle grade and two LE's. I think it was just timing and I like enough to not let it go for less than I wanted to...

GSO 5 with G10 Jade

I ordered my 4.7 with this exact build based off of how I thought it was look. I plan to pick up another set of scales if I decide to keep it based off of your and other peoples first hand reports regarding grip traction for a user. Great looking rig though!

Looking good fox
Thanks. Won this from auction site from another member and was a great find. This was from this year's run with solid tang and i think the last model with tumbled finish and slotted screws. I'll be back with an old GSO 5.1 i recently won from an auction without verifying actual condition. The seller's photos shows signs of hard use and i paid more than i wanted to. I was determined to get a 5.1 with the older tumbled finish and skeletonized tang, but now, i am so anxious and hoping not to regret it when i see it.

I agree, and it's nice to have options with removable scales. Also, i think the G10 smooth scales are better for knives like the 3.5 or smaller where grip is not an issue. They will be lighter and most likely be used on edibles, and shall be more frequently wet, washed, wiped, and dried.

Very exciting! You have good taste. I agree with your ideas about G10 for little knives.

I really don't want to bring down your enthusiasm, but I'm nearly positive all GSO's have full tangs except for the old 4.1's and 3.5's. Hopefully this won't affect how much you like your incoming 5.1!

Ooops. Sorry i didn't know. Thanks for the info. I'm totally unaware. I must have assumed that the description for the new GSO for a particular model applies to all. You know "Assumption is the mother of all ....." Oh well, balance should be fine with the 5.1's blade longer in proportion with its handle. I just found out with my research that the 5.1 i snagged from auction was resold by a seller who changed the scale and sheath. I found the previous sale on same blade (it's numbered). That dude just got it 2 weeks ago. Dude made money on something he probably didn't like. I wonder if he is in this forum also and lurking. 😰

Hey no problem at all. There are differences between models for different reasons, but are you trying to say you don't wander around the S! website for fun, like I do? :)

I prefer not to have a choil, so I don't have personal experience with the 5.1, but from what I've heard the balance and ergonomics and, well everything, is just right. It must be the most popular GSO considering how it is the first starter model to go into production as people "voted" by preordering and spending money!

Hopefully he didn't make too much extra money off of you. I suppose pricing is between the seller and buyer and if someone is buying at asking price then the price must be fair enough, but in my fantasy world there isn't anyone in our community here who would try to make an extra $100 by selling a knife way beyond what they paid for it.

I believe Guy is a magician when it comes to balance points. After seeing Silver Needles picture with his 5, I tried it with the 6 and it was in the same exact spot.
