Ward's; I wonder if Camillus made this knife??
A 3 7/8" Double-End, Balloon Jack, with fancy Bolsters, if you use Bernie Levine's nomemclature!!
Been used a bit, but it's still young!!View attachment 1857416 View attachment 1857419View attachment 1857421View attachment 1857422
It's always neat to see bolsters with multiple rat-tails!!
The blades are clips, with a long "clip" and a short "clip"!!![]()
Ah; problem solved!! Maybe I just forgot!!?? Doh!!Charlie that's a beautiful example!! I believe that model was made by Winchester if I recall correctly.
Here's one I had a while back:

Have not found many nice Empires over the years but did land a nice one the other day. 3 5/8" largish jack, pretty full blades, pattern number with the letter S on pile side tang.
What Mike said!! I have a soft spot for Empires! The were such a great maker over the turn of those centuries!! (1860s to 1920s)Good bone + full blades=great knife!

Not as appreciated as later knives!! Undeservedly!!
My first thought was "stainless" , but that doesn't look like a stainless knife!!Mike, Charlie, thank you both. Charlie, any idea on what the S under the pattern number might be?
Mine showed up today, and it's really nifty. I'm pretty sure the covers are bone, although they're much darker than Paul's. Not sure if the shield is pinned or not, as I can't see a pin on the inside of the liner.Kind of like Rachel, this was one I wasn't hunting but popped up on my browsing radar. I peeked a little closer and liked what I saw. An advertising knife with what I felt was a cool shield. I often times google fu the company to see if they're still in business. This company was in business for over a 100 years that came to an end in 1967. A blanket and felt company that eventually merged with Orr Felt, a company that may be familiar to Schrade knife fans.
The knife company is quite murky in regards to it's history. All this knife is stamped with is SOLINGEN GERMANY. The other knives I've found that are just like this one bare an arched tang stamp LUBOTCO which was a German Cutlery Company. I can find no info on them offering up dates or any other info. That said, this is a wonderful knife. Pretty full blades that are rock solid and get sticky sharp, fantastic jigged bone covers, steel/iron bolster pins (Common in German Cutlery Companies) and just a really neat pinned shield. The blades have a very pleasant snick sound when closing. It measure 3 1/4 closed.
I'm glad I took a chance as I really enjoy this fine little slicerSo ANY additional info would be neat if anyone has any
I stumbled across the info I did gather from another favorite knife site of mine

Nice one- lots of plating left.I won a bid on an old Shuler & Benninghofen penknife by Lubotco. By coincidence, screened porch posted a picture of his yesterday in the Thrifty Thursday Thread.
I knew I'd seen one in this thread some time back, so using the search function I found the post bypaulhilborn :

I've mentioned before that while advertising on new knives looks tacky, on old knives the nostalgia factor makes it the coolest thing!

Rat-tail bolsters are always nice especially a double or triple… I think I may have seen a quadruple. Awesome pattern reminds me a moose.Ward's; I wonder if Camillus made this knife??

I Love that long pull and color of the bone…sounds like the S stamp is still a mystery.Have not found many nice Empires over the years but did land a nice one the other day. 3 5/8" largish jack, pretty full blades, pattern number with the letter S on pile side tang. Etched R S Patrick Duluth Minn, from what little I can find R S Patrick was a mining equipment company and had a patent for diamond drill bits.

Excellent condition on that one Rachel, I’d be curious if it’s bone… it looks real.I won a bid on an old Shuler & Benninghofen penknife by Lubotco. By coincidence, screened porch posted a picture of his yesterday in the Thrifty Thursday Thread.

Picked up this Ulster no 2018 , 4 1/8” closed, no half stops but snappy action with just a little oil.

Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean by plating? The color of the shield matches the bolsters, so I assumed they are all nickel.Nice one- lots of plating left.
Thanks!Great knife Rachel.
I had my doubts because of the very dark and even color, but it feels like bone.Excellent condition on that one Rachel, I’d be curious if it’s bone… it looks real.
Now that's some gorgeous bone!![]()

Sorry, I meant the plating of the blades. Mine's so far gone I hadn't realized it had been there.I'm not sure what you mean by plating?
