"Old Knives"

Picked up a pretty rare Labelle 3 blade barlow, Goins has 1884-1891. They were in Bridgeport Conn. This is one of those bolster stamps I knew about but never thought would find an example.

Amazing! I've never seen a three bladed Barlow, nor that bolster stamp. (I'm probably being dim, but what is that symbol?)

Very nice!! To have a knife and box of such a rare brand is out of the park! The cancelled envelope is icing on the cake!

Thanks for everyones comments on the La Belle, appreciated.

Added another curved frame sheepsfoot jack today, this one is an early arched stamp Utica, 3 1/4" with the UTK Warranted stamp on rear of main. The blade shape is unique, almost looks like a cross between a sheepsfoot and a wharncliffe.

Picked up this GW Putnam and Co at an Antique shop for pretty cheap yesterday. Anybody know anything about this maker? The only markings are "G.W. Putnam and Co. Germany" on both blades. The only info online I could find is a 1910 Catalog for Norvell-Shapleigh Hardware advertising this brand of knives. It has this model in the catalog except mine has brass liners and no bolster work. I think the covers are ebony. Rough shape but seems to be well made.

Terrific bone and jigging, Augie! A magnificent addition, but looks to me like the sheepfoot main was ground down to the near Wharncliffe shape: the swedge and the top line look uneven, not factory original. It would surely ride in the pocket better that way.

Only thing I found was Goins' book says they were from around 1910 date, imported from Germany and sold through Norvell-Shapleigh hardware. They were listed as mid-grade quality with no warranty.

Just sorting out knives, after the chaos of the Oregon Show, and I came across this Barlow that I haven't CF'd &CE'd for a long time - years!!!
Some earlier Case Tested knives had swoopy "A" clip blades, and this is one of them!!
It's still a pretty full blade - full length in the knife anyways!!!
The sawcut Bone is waned on one side and soupy on the other, typical of the "budget" parts on older Barlows! Some would call this Greenbone (endless controvery ensues!! :D ), but I can't decide!!
A nice old Barlow; snappy, with half stops; just what I like!!:cool:Barlow A blade 1.jpgBarlow A blade 2.jpg

I agree with Lyle on that Charlie, what a very neat reconnection with a gorgeous Barlow, not quite as nice though as the Case Red Bone Barlow that was gifted to me by a great fellow - that Barlow and I share pretty much the same Birth date and I carried that the day I married Sue, it is indeed a real treasure for me. :)
