"Old Knives"

Picked up this GW Putnam and Co at an Antique shop for pretty cheap yesterday. Anybody know anything about this maker? The only markings are "G.W. Putnam and Co. Germany" on both blades. The only info online I could find is a 1910 Catalog for Norvell-Shapleigh Hardware advertising this brand of knives. It has this model in the catalog except mine has brass liners and no bolster work. I think the covers are ebony. Rough shape but seems to be well made.

That's a great ol' Jack there!

Just sorting out knives, after the chaos of the Oregon Show, and I came across this Barlow that I haven't CF'd &CE'd for a long time - years!!!
Some earlier Case Tested knives had swoopy "A" clip blades, and this is one of them!!
It's still a pretty full blade - full length in the knife anyways!!!
The sawcut Bone is waned on one side and soupy on the other, typical of the "budget" parts on older Barlows! Some would call this Greenbone (endless controvery ensues!! :D ), but I can't decide!!
A nice old Barlow; snappy, with half stops; just what I like!!:cool:View attachment 2171545View attachment 2171546

She's a beauty Charlie! I was just lamenting to someone at our knife show in Mystic, CT last weekend, that in our rush to accumulate so many knives, we often forget to pause and appreciate the ones we already have.

Interesting blade profile on that Case Barlow Charlie, reminds me of some old English and Scottish clip blades I've seen. Can kind of get the idea of what I'm thinking looking at the clip on this horsemans knife, sorry don't have a pic of just the clip.

I call it Greenbone!! Wudda ya think???

Added another curved frame sheepsfoot jack today, this one is an early arched stamp Utica, 3 1/4" with the UTK Warranted stamp on rear of main. The blade shape is unique, almost looks like a cross between a sheepsfoot and a wharncliffe.
The Labelle 3 blader is one in a million John but I gotta say this Utica really is something. The stamps and the bone are just incredible.

Beautiful and cool old Tested barlow Charlie.

That is so true. Every once in a while I will be wowed by one I'd almost forgotten about.

I just got this one this in. I got it for a electrician friend who collects electrician knives. When I saw it I knew he would want it. I've never seen a Coke bottle electricians knife before.

According to Levine's guide it's a Nanopoch or Empire made knife for Sears Roebuck ca.1909

Wow! What a beauty of a wonderfully-preserved working knife! It's very unique and appealing; I am sure your friend will be thrilled! So many of these old kinves remind me of a Craftsman-Style house - very sturdy but with elegant design and execution.

I am the lucky friend for whom Steve snagged the knife, and I am extremely thrilled 😊

When Steve won that knife the other day he sent pics of it to me I almost fell out of my chair. Theres enough cutlery history in that one knife to feast on for some time. Your a blessed man Adam. 🤠

Congratulations on a very fine knife, and a great friend!

Look at that cool blade on that Camillus BakeryWizard! Neat Knife!

Cypress, I did the same the other day, Picked up an Old Ebony Jack- Why? I don't know apart from the fact that these neat Old Ebonies are so cool to look at, like you say - they still work so well! I really like that Old Jack my friend!
