I think curmudgeony is a prerequisite of being an "old knife" nutThanks! Ebony Jacks are the Platonic Ideal of pocketknives.

I complain about "social media" because I am a curmudgeon, but I have to admit it's wonderful to be able to make friends and learn from people all around the world.![]()
I was a curmudgeon at 20.I think curmudgeony is a prerequisite of being an "old knife" nutWe should get "Certificates of Curmudgeonness"

Agreed DuncanKev, That Bone looks simply Beautiful My Friend, one of THE best material for handles is Schrade's Peach-seed!
Not sure how many Ulster jacks I have but this one is special cuz I got it for under $10Took me 12 minutes with a Scotch-Brite sponge to clean it up and have it looking (and feeling) like near new, full snap and all
The thumbnail photos are what the knife looked like when I got it, I think someone thought it was a piece of junk
Normally I crop my photos but this knife seemed to like being seen on the pedestal

Here's one thatr8shell will approve of
I've been looking for one of these for a while now and finally got one at a reasonable cost... just love the pocket worn look of this one
It's my first Schrade Cut Co with this tang stamp on it. Even though this knife has seen it's share of active duty, amazingly the pen blade still has "like new" half stop / snap and the clip is not too far behind

I do indeed approve! Not only for its "long, mysterious history", but for the lovely caramel bone. Here's one thatr8shell will approve of

Someday I will get some of those minty treasures Charlie but for now the garage sale specials need love too LoLYou would think from the delight I take in showing off minty knives when I find them, that I wouldn't think twice about worn, patina-ed knives like your SCC, Kevin!
But I get equal warm, fuzzy feelings from knives with long, mysterious histories such as this one!!!
Nice going!!!![]()
Somehow I knew the word "caramel" would come into playI do indeed approve! Not only for its "long, mysterious history", but for the lovely caramel bone.![]()
Hi Kevin. First off nice job bringing back the lush color of those scales. Did you scotchbrite both the scales and the blade? Not sure how many Ulster jacks I have but this one is special cuz I got it for under $10Took me 12 minutes with a Scotch-Brite sponge to clean it up and have it looking (and feeling) like near new, full snap and all

Fantastic character in those covers for sure!Clauss jack... anybody have any insight on the bone on this one? I call it "pocket polished" but not sure how it got shiny. It's a big jack at 3-3/4" and quite heavy duty... my first Clauss and I approve
