On Playing Wordle . . .

Additional news . . .

People who are concerned about the purchase of Wordle by the NYT have revealed a HACK in order to save the game for offline use in case the NYT creates a pay wall to prevent free use of Wordle in the future.

Apparently, all you have to do is save the game's webpage as an HTML file and you can play the game OFFLINE because the data file including all of the words in the game going out to October 20, 2027 is supposedly embedded in the program file.

I haven't tested this yet but there are various articles which say it's true. So, if you are worried about it, just save Wordle to HTML on your phone or computer and bookmark it and see it if works for you or not.

See, for example: Wordle Will Be Free Forever . . .

That would be such a dumb move on their part. Wordle brings NYT a ton traffic and exposure to their other "upsale" games.

Thought it might be one of "those" words, so I used one of them
for the 3rd guess to see if it was or not. It wasn't but it reduced
the possibilities from 16 to just 1 (per WordleBot) for a PAR 4. The
word I chose for the 3rd guess was the lucky part because it was
one of at least 7 possible variations. :)

The current NYT average for this puzzle is 4.3.

Lucky guess based on minimal information but it was
the first word that I visualized, despite there being at
least 10 possibilities -- 9 making use of the same
letter pattern ("___ I ___ E ___" ) -- per WordleBot. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

The final NYT average for this puzzle was 4.4.

Old news and things have changed.

Even if you have previously downloaded the HTML of the game (which I did) and play it on your computer, it won't do you any good because the NYT has removed and added many words (since its acquisition of the game) which would make it impossible for you to play the same game using the same word at the same time as everyone else playing the game online.

Of course, you could still play the game as originally designed but you would be doing it in a vacuum unless you know others who are doing the same thing and can share your "results" with them.
