this one stumped me

This one apparently was hard for people too but, after 4 letters (3 in the green) were revealed in the 1st 2 tries, STOVE was the only word that came to mind. Again, just lucky!![]()

Not **just** luck. Story was an excellent seed word for that puzzle.03/31/2022: Wordle 285 4/6
This apparently was a very hard word for a lot of people.
It wasn't looking good for me either after the 1st 2 tries but the 3rd guess revealed a key letter that led me to the solution.
Feel fortunate to have squeaked a Par 4 out of it.

Just lucky again, I guess!![]()
I didn't play in January, but it seems to me that lately there are more of these puzzles where there are numerous words which share four letters which the correct answer. Bound, Found, Hound, Mound, Pound, Wound . . . Stoke, Stole, Stone, Store, Stove. Stuff like that. Words with none of the "conventional" vowels, like Nymph. Or maybe only one vowel. More double letters. Etc.IDK about that.
FWIW, these are my average scores for the past 3 months:
Jan 2022 -- 4.32
Feb 2022 --3.96
Mar 2022 --3.65
Why's that?
I certainly don't think it's because the words have been getting "easier" over the past 3 months.
My guess is that I'm just getting "better" (by being more careful/thoughtful, as well as experienced) at playing the game. While "luck" does have something to do w/it, I don't think it fully explains the trend.
And, having seen the answer list, I don't think there is any particular intention to make words any easier or harder w/in the list, although it is possible that some words may be grouped in that way from time to time.
So, I'd say that the relative degree of "difficulty" of the words is fairly constant.
Not **just** luck. Story was an excellent seed word for that puzzle.

I should have looked in the mirror, I might have been as lucky.Wordle 286 1/6
