On Playing Wordle . . .

My son has a conservative strategy for quordle that is good if you just want to avoid failing. He uses all four of GODLY, BUMPH, CRANE, SWIFT. After that he can always solve them in 5,6,7,8.

As w/Wordle, I'd like to get the best score possible but I'll give it a try. Thx!

Update:

I just gave the tip a try and it worked surprisingly well w/today's Quordle #73. Not a 3/4/5/6 but, as you said, 5/6/7/8 pass. Thx! :)

PS: I also tried your son's starter words yesterday on Qctordle 74 and solved it in 13 but, while using 4 starter words makes a solution more likely, it doesn't appeal to me as much because it doesn't allow a better score than a solution in 8 in Quordle or 12 in Octordle.

Of course, using my 2 starter words practically limits my scores to 3 in Wordle, 6 in Quordle and 10 in Octordle but using just 2 words provides a bit more of a challenge. I don't mind the greater failures in Quodle/Octordle because I'm really not keeping count of wins/losses in those games but . . .

Wordle is a different matter. LOL! ;)

The Wordle personality test. 😄

Along those lines, although I could see at least four possibilities, I tried to get it in 2, didn't happen. Another seed would have ensured 3.

It was a choice for me between an obsure and more common word. Chose the obscure one, which yielded the Birdie 3. :)

Another obscure word but the only apparent choice to me given the letter pattern revealed in the 1st 2 tries.

Back on track w/Quordle using my 2 starter words. Just 1 extra guess required on the 2nd board. :)

When the first seed word gave me four letters, I went rogue on the second guess and almost got it. At that point, after the second guess, there were still FOUR more possibilities. Could have taken me all the way to six guesses. As luck would have it, I got in in three. With REAL luck, I would have nailed it in two.

Only guessing what your first two words were, but unless I miss my guess there would have been at least four words available for your third guess depending on the second letter. If that was the case, it was pretty good luck to pick the correct one out of four on your first try.

I am hearing your "more obscure word" theory, but eventually isn't Wordle going to use every five letter word? So I mean, if there are five words which only differ in the second letter, eventually each one of them will be correct in a different puzzle. Is your theory that they will just line those up in time order from most obscure to most common . . . so maybe in six months or a year, the common words will start appearing?

I haven't looked but you're probably right that there may have been 4 possibilites.

I actually thought of 3 but 1 of them was ruled out by my starter words. So, I just focused on the remaining 2 that occurred to me and did not try to find any other options because, as I think I mentioned before, that just makes the choice all that more difficult.

As for the obscure vs common, I agree that it will not always work but it has recently worked (more often than not) for me and I'm going to stick w/the trend until the pattern is broken.

PS: I use the same 2 starter words in every game which are shown in every pic of every board that I've played/posted, so there's no need for you to guess which words those are. ;)

OK, didn't know that for sure. I **usually** use the same two words, but sometimes (like today) I might switch up the second guess.

So in that case, there WERE four left after your second guess, even eliminating the one that was ruled out by your starter words (IOW, there are FIVE words here that differ only in the second letter, and one of those five was ruled out by your starter words, leaving four).

Being blind to the other options was advantageous. I think I've seen that somewhere before . . .

You're a Jedi! 😂

I seem to be picking lucky seed words this week.

Might have gotten it an Eagle 2 too, if I had used my 2nd word 1st instead. Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

Choice for me here was between SPARE and SCARE. STARE was already eliminated and didn't immediately think of SNARE. chose SCARE because it was the more obscure and the type of word which has been the "right" answer (more often than not) recently.

Another win in Quordle 75 today, as well, with respectable 4/5/6/7 score. :)

Not going to bother posting a copy of the 4 letterless Quordle boards anymore because it's a waste of space but if anyone wants to see a copy of the actual boards w/letters in them for a particular game that I've played/reported, I can provide it.

Or SHARE.
I think 'scare' is more common than 'snare', but that's a subjective thing. Neither is really obscure.

I don't mean to criticize; I find the differences in strategy and thought processes interesting. Some days all the possibilities spring to mind and the next day, I'll blank on something obvious.

SHARE didn't occur to me right away either. So, it was only a choice between SPARE and SCARE for me.

Also, I'm not really "strategic" in how I play the game. Other than the choice of my 2 starter words, I basically just go w/my gut plus a little (very little) thought and hope for the best, which has worked pretty well for me so far.

LOL! ;)
