On Playing Wordle . . .

I switched to hard mode so I can't do throwaway words anymore, but thanks for the tips!

Well, FWIW, according to the author of the 2nd article, this is at least one reason why you're more likely to fail in solving a puzzle.

And, IMO, there's no reason to make solving a puzzle any harder than it already is.

09/20/2022: Wordle 458 3/6

🟩⬜🟩🟨⬜

4 possibilities per WordleBot but only 2 based on
the letter pattern that I chose. Worst case, a Par,
but I chose the word that I considered the more
"obscure" for the Birdie.

The current NYT average for this puzzle is 4.1.

09/19/2022: Wordlel 457 3/6 TRICE

Chose the obvious letter pattern "TRI__E" but I
saw at least 5 different possibilities based on
this pattern: TRIBE, TRIPE, TRICE, TRITE, TRIKE.

Wasn't sure TRICE was a valid word. Had to look
it up. It was the obvious choice after I did because
it was the most archaic/obscure word of the bunch.

The word WRITE was also possible using a different
letter pattern which I never considered.

The final NYT average for this puzzle was 4.2.

Not as easy it it seems.

WordleBot identified 36 possibilities for the
3rd guess and still 6 more after the 3rd.

I only identified 2 different letter patterns each
with 2 different word choices. So, failure was
still a possibility. 3rd guess was the wrong
pattern. 50/50 for 4th guess. Worst case a Bogey.
Actually lucky IMO to score a Par.

The current NYT average for this puzzle is 3.7.

09/20/2022: Wordle 458 3/6 ALIKE

WordleBot identified 4 possibilities based on 3
letter patterns. For me, it was just a choice between
ALIVE and ALIKE. Chose ALIKE because it seemed
a bit more "obscure."

The final NYT average for this puzzle was 4.2.

Could have been ALINE, which I thought was more obscure. Cost me a guess.

The dictionary says that ALINE is a "rare spelling of ALIGN."

I wrote it down as a possibility but crossed it out w/o looking it up because it didn't look "right" to me. WordleBot didn't even have ALINE on its possible word list for the letters that I had to work with.

The only words that it listed were: ALIKE, ALIVE, ANIME & AGILE.

Sometimes it's better to not be so smart or so thorough when playing Wordle. LOL! ;)
