One knife for 2011?

Well' it's only been about a week for me so far but I'm giving it a shot.

My knife of choice is a "Gum Fuddy" Case Humpback Stockman that I got from my lovely wife for Christmas.

Feel free to call me a lunatic but I'm actually shooting for the same knife for the rest of my life. For some strange reason, I am very confident that I can pull this off. I guess I am just at that point in my life or something, I don't know, but I feel extremely capable of doing this.

I think it boils down to the fact that I really want a knife that, eventually has been with me everyday for many years. That right there is a piece of my knife collecting hobby that is missing.

I will still carry other knives in addition to my primary knife but the "Gum Fuddy" will always be in my pocket. (At least that's my plan anyways)

Have I gone off the deap end?

I think part of knife collecting, for me anyways is the search for the perfect knife. Looks, feel, and utility factor in on a user. Since I've owned this MM it has usually been in my pocket daily except for occasional knives that I pull out of my meager collection to admire for a day or two. The problem with that is when you have to use the knife and you don't want to use an 80 or 90 year old knife. I continue to buy knives even though I have what I think is perfect for me in my pocket. Now it is two knives, and the Queen #9 is gaining on the Mooremaker. I have been carrying it daily for a while now. Both stockmans, both by the same maker, so I think brand or maker factors in too. I was always a Case guy until I bought a Queen. Not that one is better than the other, just my preference.Pictures say 1000 words.

No way. I'm not a one knife guy.

Does everyone see how Steve keeps taunting me with that amazing Curly Zebra Stockman!!! ;)

No, not gonna happen. I like the idea but I generally carry 3 knives so even if its the same 3, it won't be one for all year.

Yes, I guess you'll just have to get one. I tried to satisfy that urge with a #11 Utility/Slim Trapper in Curly Zebra but I don't think its enough :D

I have been carrying my Alox Bantam for the past week.

Today I was a bit restless:o

I was planning to carry one knife to become my ever present pocket pal

Carried around my Opinel 8 au carbon a bit to swap it for my Farmer, then my Electrician only to end it with my Alox Bantam.

I guess this one makes a good chance.

It reminds me of some pics I saw on this forum of a very old Soldier's knife with just a blade and a screwdriver.
This is the modern version of it I guess:)

Farmer or Electrician are the only two knives I could try this with.

The only way I'd ever have any chance of carrying the same knife every day for a year is to stay out of this forum and put all my knives but the one away such that they would be difficult or at least inconvenient to get to. I'm going to start with a week, if I can pick one out to begin with...

I will do it!! I am going to carry my grizzly Trapper from case every day this year. I've gone a month already so 13 months should be easy. I may carry other as well, but my trapper will be everywhere I go this year! I'm excited:)

Here's to ya, Spoutz!

That Grizzly Trapper of yours is a worthy knife. If you carry it for a whole year you might not be able to take it out of your pocket after that. You might become so attached to it that the next thing you know, it has been in your pocket for 10 years. Maybe not........but maybe so.

I'm excited about doing this too. I know I can do it but only time will tell for sure.

Good luck in your endeaver.

That's actuall what I want:). I want it to just become an extention of my. I actually wanted to do this before I saw the thread and now I'm locked on it.

I'm with you, my friend. I stated in an earlier post that having a knife that has been with me for many years is one thing that my knife collecting hobby is missing. In fact, it's the only thing that is missing.

It will take time but, like you, I plan to resolve that.

Anybody going to try for one knife all year?

I'm going to give it a shot with my Vic Electrician. I might carry another knife with it on occasion, but I plan to carry the Electrician every day in 2011.

I might not make it a week b/c my Case Amber Bone Texas Jack is a jealous knife and always sneaks back into my pocket and kicks everybody else out, but I'm going to give it a try :)

I don't know if it will go all year, but I'll be carrying the GEC Dogleg daily for a goodly part of it at least.
Think I'll just stick with this one for a spell

I gave this as much thought as I felt decent, and went through the collection discarding this and that for this and that reason.

Really surprised at what I left myself to chose from

A queen trapper, an Ontario RAT cattle King (which I think is a Queen anyway - it has an awl), and a large Sebenza

(btw - when does a large plain regular Sebenza get allowed as a traditional knife :D:D)

Even as a kid, I was into knives but considering the financial limits one has at that age, it would always be one knife that got carried. When I bought my first "real good knife", I carried that thing for 15 years straight! It wasn't untill I started reading forums such as this one, that I started buying more knives. Now I'm at the point where half of the time I can't even choose one knife to carry for one month! Thinking back, that first knife got more use and character then any of the more expensive ones I bought later, it takes time for a tool like that to really grow on you and become truly yours. I mostly buy knives to use them....it's sort of a paradox that the more educated you get (looking for the holy grail user knife), the less some of those "user" knives actually get carried because you love so many of them.

What a frightening thought:eek: If you were talking three at a time then maybe:D

Regards

Robin

A knife knut hanging around a knife forum, is like an alcoholic hanging around a bar.

Carl.

I think not... It was an easy switch to traditionals only but only one for a whole year. No way no how.

One knife for an entire year? I would need some type of medication and restraint to do such a feat.
