Ongoing Details for the 2016 Bladeforums knife.

It will be a winner! I am sure that Charlie is working on it in between all of his other projects:thumbup:

Very cool pics, Gus! Love the garnets in the matrix. Very cool

Just to chime in here, Charlie and Bill Howard & Co. are working on these now. :D They are still in design AFAIK, but will be along in the not-too-distant future. They will be well worth the wait, and I think an instant classic forum knife.:thumbup:

No orders will be taken until the knives are firmly on the horizon, so please remain patient. There will be plenty to go around if past experience holds true, so no worries guys. :):):):):)

Huzzah! ill be eager to find out what happens to this years knife

Yes, thanks! I check the threads every couple of days hoping for a new tidbit of info...

Things are happening!!
Can someone again post a pic of all the BF knives to date?
How many were there? - Please remind me!!

These two shots have everything but last years' CSC knife

May I stray from the flock for a minute?
just noticed that 4 of the 10 so far are stag.
3 out of the first 4 are stag!
I have the 2014 jack with beautiful stag that was donated by ...(someone help me out -I've searched but can not find his name gaaah tip of the tongue)
The number produced has increased each year which is making me wonder if the forum knife started out as a special using top quality scales of stag which made it stand out.
Have we simply decided that stag is too difficult a material to produce in greater numbers whilst holding consistent quality through the run? OR did we simply say we want something new and original with bone and jigging style?woods? micartas?:rolleyes:

There's a couple of factors here: trying to keep the cost at $100 or less so that the knife is affordable for more members, and trying to shoot for a variety of patterns, sizes, blades, steel, scales, manufacturers, etc.

I think we can all agree that the annual knife has remained a "top quality" knife throughout the years.

Stag, good stag, is warm and buttery in your fingers. I honestly can't think offhand of anything that feels close, but...it is nice to have beautiful knives in other handle materials.( maybe I shouldn't say beautiful, maybe outstanding ?) Stag does raise the cost as has been mentioned already. The really good stuff is rare and I believe sambar is currently not exported tho' that will prob happen again when they've built up sufficient stock harvested appropriately. Blah blah. The point is, it's nice to have exposure to other fine scale materials. That cattarahus jigged scale is amazing! No one would call ebony, or similar wood, low end I believe. Rams horn is beautiful and rare and we pay for that. Jigged bone, smooth bone, oiled whatever can be gorgeous , if done well. Considering whose hands are in on this knife , the people and company, I think we can safely assume it's going to look pretty nice. $.02, FWIW
Thanks, Neal

meako I believe it's a bit of both. Good Stag is supreme, but Stag by nature is variable and inconsistent. I got a really fine grooved 2014 FK but others had to make do with smoother styles(although a lot like this) Then there is the cost, and the availability. Conversely, there is a desire to try a different frame, offer different handle materials (2 Woods, several stags, Jigged bone, Delrin) No colour acrylics or Smooth Bone yet...or? Plus different blade types and styles: Barehead, Double bolster, Shadow.

The No.s seem to have been rising since 2008 and I don't think there's yet a ceiling on this year's knife. Styles will (and should be different) tastes will vary but the quality and atmosphere is always there. I don't like all of 'em but they're all unquestionably decent knives.

I love stag, but it is so unique that inevitably, some members will end up with covers that are too fat, too thin, too textured, too smooth, or otherwise not to their own personal taste. Take a look at these two 'Alternate 2014 club knives' for example:

The "Eric's Jack" was the stainless "alternate" to the 2014 BF knife. One was so plain, well, ugly, that I sanded it down some on both sides to make it 'polished' stag. It is an excellent carry knife, very similar to the TC Barlow in size and weight, but without the half-stop and in 440C. Thanks Eric! :) (ea42)
