When the Rat-1 first hit the market it DID cost twice as much. 60 dollars was the going price and you could only get black scales. Don't ask me how I know this:(
They are a real bargain now.
 
I have 1 in venom green coming from Roger at Knifeworks tomorrow. Can't wait.....

Right there with ya, I paid that for my first one. :)
 
I use to have an orange Rat 1 with a plain uncoated blade. I somehow lost it in the woods so i just replaced it with a brown Rat 1 with a plain coated blade. The only issue I had with these knives was rust on the blade.
 
I agree the rat 1 is outstanding value and has a really sharp blade out of the box. Money well spent and the taiwan blade is as good as a jap blade i think.
 
I got my venom green/satin blade rat-1 pleasantly waiting for me when I got home from work tonight. I sold the black bladed one on the flea bay and got my money back, so I ordered the satin one. I wasn't thrilled about the painted look of the blade on the black one. Still a very fine knife though. I am continually amazed at what a sharp and solid knife it is. It's not my BM 710, but at 1/5 the price, it's a great liner lock. In hind sight, I should have kept the black bladed one too. Where else can you get a decent sized liner lock knife in AUS-8 steel in almost every popular scale color and blade combination for $30?
 
As well as these variations of the Rat 1 have been selling, I would have to think that other colors will be in it's future.

so had mine now for one day. love it! but..... lets just say the paint on the blade... crap. was almost sticky. removing as we speak. i will post pics tomorrow.
 
I just got my OD green Rat 1 in the mail today. This is definitely gonna be my go to knife for the meantime.

Hearing bad vibe about the black coating on the rat one. Guess plain satin is only way to go as of the moment. I just saw eBay seller , one day sale, for $25 shipped...but it coated blade with tan scales
