Latest Opinel is an Advert knife for a Construction Material Company in Chambery, France. I took the liberty of cleaning it up.

Today I have something that I haven't seen before. This is an 8 with a box. The company name on the box as the retailer is Early Winters, I did a Google search and found they are not in business any more. I guess they bought the knives and packaged them with an info paper inside (yes I have the paper).

Here is the listing for the knife above. Thought it was great.

UP FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS THIS VERY NICE FRENCH O#8 CHOIX KNIFE WITH A VERY GOOD BOX AND INSTRUCTIONS. FOUND THIS IN MY HUSBANDS ITEMS AND THINK HE USED THIS JUST A LITTLE. A COUPLE VERY SMALL NICKS IN THE BLADE. YOU WILL BE PLEASED WITH THIS OVERALL 7 5/8" KNIFE WITH A CARBON STEEL BLADE THAT IS 3 3/8" LONG. MADE IN FRANCE AND HAS A VIROBLOC LOCK TO PREVENT KNIFE FROM WACKING YOUR FINGERS OFF. THANKS FOR BIDDING

"Early Winters". Catalog company. 1980's?
Pre-internet for sure. I remember getting their catalogs, but not what was in them.

Add:
OK the above was from memory. Wiki says I was off by a decade. 1970's. High end camping gear.

My one and only. I bought this on a lark at a sporting goods store about a month ago, as I was shopping for a new outdoor hat. I had heard of the knife but never put much stock in them as they looked a bit cheesy. I was wrong in my assessment. This pic is the first time that I took the knife to a regional park for an evening fire.

Makers of the Omnipo-tent and, IIRC, the first GoreTex parka.
