When I took a picture of my last two, it was done inside and the wood didn't look as good as it does. These pictures I took outside and have the front and back so you can see the Walnut back is better than the front side. For sure the Effiles is Bubinga because of the redness of the wood. Yes, the Effiles is a mirror finish blade.
Bubinga
Walnut
Here's my 'Slim' collection and this was a dangerous thing to setup, think Dominos with Razor blades!!!
Left to Right, Bubinga, Olive wood, Ebony and Beech
Now I had sold off my Olive wood and Ebony last year when I was in need of funds, I picked up the Bubinga and that inspired me to see if I could beg back the two I had sold, luckily for me, that person had just stored the box away as when they arrived they were more dainty than he had thought, these are very slim thin bladed knives to be sure, but boy are they sharp and sexy So I also ordered the Beech so I'd have a full set, if they come out with more wood models of these, I think I'll be picking them up too !
Nothing like a good opinel. My no.8 has been through the mill over the last while and has taken it with the good grace of a quality knife. I wood nit hesitate to buy another. (yes the pun is terrible but I make no apologies )
Okay i talked about the lot I picked up last week and here they are in a few before pictures. I will only show the front sides. Both Inox have broke tips and the advert carbone has a broke tip. The advert knife is for an Insurance company in Rhone-Alpes region of France.
Finished the two Inox No. 8's late last night so here are the pictures. The bottom one had a very dirty handle that would not clean so I sanded it smooth and waxed it.
Took a lot of searching to find this thread. I am back with my latest Opinel. A No. 10 Effile Olive wood with mirror finish blade. I picked it up off the bay and I knew it needed some work on the wood and needed the Oliver sticker removed. The varnish had darkened and I had to sand it down a bit. My next Opinel will be here next week but it will only have a beech wood handle. Will post a picture when it gets here.
First three are from the listing on the bay. The fourth is the sticker has been removed. The fifth is after sanding and the last is after two coats of wax.
