The world is changing, I had to come to Traditionals to see photos and talk about the OKCA show. A good Buck Collector posted a couple of photos but he and I were the only ones to comment in the thread. The Buck forum thread on the purple handled black bladed Buck of the month knife drew twice as many views..Thanks for the talk and photos.....300Bucks

Love the pics! Any estimate on crowd size in numbers. I had several folks asking if I was going. 12 hour drive for me each way so I'd have to make bank to make it pencil out and miss a week in the shop. Was it that kind of show?

Not sure on how many tickets sold, I'm just another knife nut! but I did hear the chairman of the show say he was glad the fire marshal didn't show up because we were over the hall capacity! I'm sure ticket sales will be in the next news letter.
Just like any other show it all depends on your product, price and what the customer wants, I'm sure you know one year to the next the same show will be poor one year and GREAT the next!! Life is that way!;)

I missed last year due to work, but my feeling was the 2016 show was even more crowded than this year. Some folks who were at the 2016 show, and not this year, Bernard Levine, Tim Wegner (Bladetech), RW Wilson (polishing stuff)...

Every year a different knife is chosen and the club offers blade blanks to knife makers that are members. Last year it was a paring knife, this year the Kukri, the knives are judged and then presented to the members that put on a display, that are also judged. There were 12 Kukri's turned in this year, wish I had a group photo to show you all, :( because the workmanship was AWESOME!!!!!!!

The displays were GREAT this year! Many have been at this show in previous years, so I just tried to take pics of the newer ones, if anyone would like me to re-post the displays from other years I certainly can. This year there were 16 displays, some have already been posted.....

This display by David Schmiedt was simply AWESOME!!! and won 1st place!:confused::confused:

I was also at the 2016 show and I feel this year the crowd was bigger, BUT my memory is not what it use to be!:p:D
I don't know about Tim or RW but Bernie was there!! Saw him and spoke to him on 3 different occasions! Charlie had him signing a couple books!! :D:cool::cool:

Many vendors had very  old display cases they found from old hardware stores, five and dimes and other out of business stores. Many were just as neat as the knives inside them IMO!!!:D

Thanks so much for the pics, Dave! I have enjoyed every one! I have never seen a knife or gun show with that many people present and walking around. Incredible!

Hah - I thought I was the only guy looking a the old display cabinets. I really like the cabinet work some of them have. As to the rest, I guess I'll just have to pull up a chair at Charlie's booth. Like NYC's Central Park, sooner or later everybody walks by there.

Seriously though, if you think these are big shows, you have to get out more. OKC is huge, the old Pomona, CA (mostly gun) show used to fill the whole L.A. County fairgrounds. Blade is probably 4-5 times this large with just knives. The knives section at SHOT is usually at least as big as what's at Blade, and the IWA Show in Germany is 3-4 buildings full of knives (out of 7-8 buildings at the MesseCentrum Nuremberg.) There used to be another really big cutlery show in Europe, but I can't remember if it was France or Belgium. It's been over 30 years since I did that one.

I heard rumor that they are talking of revitalizing the old Blade West show. I wish they would.

Thanks for posting those pictures, Dave!! It's like having that fun all over again!!
The people were great - and it's true, whoever said it; our tables were like Grand Central Station - everyone came by at least once or twice!
Unable to get Empire collecting out of my system, I picked up two Empire patterns I have not seen before!! I love the Oregon show!! It keeps on giving and giving!!Oregon 2018 A.jpg Oregon 2018 B.jpg Oregon 2018 C.jpg
The Sleeveboard also has some etch left, but it's barely visible. The lengths are 3 5/16", and 3 9/16" respectively.

Wow - two beautiful Knives there Charlie. Looking forward to seeing more that both you and Dave bought.
