Our "Front Porch" ....

Joe, when responsibility is only a buzz word and things one does is the "fault of others" or a "failed system/society" then of course it's the tool and not the individual at fault when something occurs.

But there's still hope, I'm just a bit over 1/2 your age and I won't give up on the core beliefs. I'm not alone....you are not alone.

FO, we can't be trusted without proper guidance.

It's a nibble here and a nibble there and the further it goes the more reliant we become. It may be laughable now but I can see a future where a licensed individual will be responsible for cutting our steaks for us in restaurants.

On a lighter note, I'm running Daddy daycare today. Never a dull moment with a 2 and 4 year old.

When my kids were that young I would have rather gone into a bar fight than try to keep up. In retrospect best times ever with little ones, enjoy them my friend!

I remember a class we had in high school called Shop, either wood or metal. One day the teacher told us to,take out our pocket knives, he was going to demonstrate the proper method how to sharpen them. Out of 12 kids I recall only one didn't have one, he forgot it at home. Today if a teacher tried that he would be brought up on charges and fired and the class would be on suspension. A shame in a very short period of man's existence on this planet from discovering our most basic tool other than a rock how we have restricted their use.

I was brought up on a farm and without a knife in your pocket you had a difficult day, ever try opening bales of hay without cutting the twine off them first? Guns were for hunting pheasant, deer, and rabbits. Today knives and guns are viewed almost strictly as weapons. As you and N2K and others have echoed, blame the tool not the person. Curtail responsible people's rights instead of holding the violator responsible for his/her actions.

They certainly keep you young, but I'm pooped come the end of the day on Friday. More so than during the work day, then I'm just mentally drained.

On Friday I wake up make coffee. Sit with the kids a while then make breakfast. Throw mine down while they eat and then get laundry together, we play, then it's time for lunch. Then my wife's back. Reserves have arrived!!

I feel ya brother!!! My 4 year old can wear me out!!!! LOL

I have a good buddy that just had his third Son, His other two actually have kids of their own which now makes the newborn their Uncle.
My Pal is 56 years old
The morning he called me (Sunday 0700 hrs.) I remember his voice having just found out "they were expecting" He had just bought a new Harley, a House and was settling in to enjoy a good life with his new wife and joking about playing (spoiling) his grandkids then.....
Bam! Life jumped up and bit him square on his ass.
I really felt for him, I tried to imagine myself in his spot and ran screaming from my brain. I can not fathom a little one at my age let alone his.
Anyway, for you young guys.... Enjoy! You will have a blast, Great years - the Best. Get it overwith when you're young though. Trust me ;)
Ah, the memories, Glad they are memories.

Rubi, my wife and I had our son 7 months ago and we're in our mid 20's. It's been the best thing that happened to us! We love our little guy. We have gotten a lot of..."criticism" about not enjoying our earlier years, but personally I'd like to have grandchildren before I'm too old...not the only reason why we chose to have a baby after 2 years of marriage, but it is one! My brother and I were around the age of 10 when my parents had another round of kids...two girls, two years apart. My dad's almost 60 with daughters in middle school. I couldn't imagine them with a newborn!

I wasn't sure how parenthood was gonna be (not sure anyone could really prepare for something like this), but I love it! Every day he does something new that's so cool. I know he'll be a knife guy. He'll stop chewing on whatever hes destroying and stare as I play with an XM or take one apart. Wonder if Hinderer makes a plastic trainer XM safe for babies? :)

No worries Scott, within a couple of months you can swing by and babysit our next one. This will surely confirm your thoughts above if our two girls don't... They'll have you dressing up like Elsa and singing "Let it Go"...

;)

"Let it Go"...

Wow, just reading these words will have that song stuck in my head the rest of the day!!

My boy is leaving for school in 3 weeks. It's a weird feeling seeing him "grown" and leaving home. Still have my little girl (10) at home, but man, it's going to be different.

It's not when they are little as it turns out, those days were a blast. I'd have four more if they never grew up to be teenagers.
Even with "good" ones - Bigger kid = Bigger issues (problems, bills, checks)
Our "culture" today doesn't help the matter any, believe me.
God bless you guys - I'm glad my child rearing days are almost done.
Wait'l they start eyeing up your Hinderer's ;)

I doubt you can truly understand how many times I have heard that song, either from the movie, YouTube, my daughter singing it, or the replays in my head...

;)

Just be glad Barney finally went extinct.

Extinct I suppose but not gone completely. Thankfully my girls have shown no interest. I do put my foot down and draw the line somewhere, Disney princess movies are acceptable while Barney, teletubbies, Sponge Bob and many other things are on the wrong side of my line.

So I'm not the only person that's seen Frozen more than necessary? I do admit Olaf is quite entertaining.

I could sing "Let it Go" and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" for you completely. I can't sing it anywhere as well as Adele Dazeem .... err ... Idina Menzel.

;)

I hear you Rubi! If I had heard "I love you! You Love Me" one more time!!! I hated the purple monster!

Yeah, Teletubbies was beyond weird.

You guys are talking about songs I've never heard and a movie I have not seen...

As for Barney...in my youth I tied a noose around the appropriate part of that critter and the other end of the rope to the rear bumper of my truck...then proceeded to drag the flopping plush purple toy down an Interstate Hwy at upwards of 80+mph...for about an hour journey. Along the trip I received countless thumbs-up and not a single scolding look, gesture or remark.
