Our "Front Porch" ....

Interesting parallel. I recently had new brakes and rotors installed on my kids Nissan (car only had 70k on the clock) driving home and the head gasket went.
That was it for her.
I heard a loud flushing sound come from the area of my wallet.

Thanks guys. Time to retire my Honda, was my daughters car while at college, it was a good run around vehicle for me. i did get my money's worth, 16 yrs old and became a money pit at the end, tomorrow Pick and Pull will own it. Back to my TJ Wrangler Jeep.

Drove a jeep last week (the itch had returned) I was amazed at the improvements to include the new 3.6 L motor.
I probably will not swap for my 2012 Toyota 4runner Limited BUT if I wasn't driving the truck I am.... a new 4 door Rubicon would be sitting in my garage w/o a doubt.
My perfect garage (sans lottery win) would be a Black 4 door Rubicon (lifted w35's) and a Black Camaro ZL1 - I'd have to be either fully retired OR living within 3-4 miles of business pursuits. I have grown tired of feeding the children of folks in the far away land that produces the stuff of fuel and that do not particularly like us.
IF we ever pull our collective heads from rectal defilade and start becoming self-sufficient when it comes to our energy reality - I will return "vehicles" and their accumulation to the rightful position of 1st place in my Hobby rotation.
Until then, Hinderers, Guns/Ammo and precious metals will have to suffice.
Bummer, I really really like things that go Vroom.

I like your style Rubi...but that 4 runner is super bad ass bro, keep that baby. totally jealous when you posted the sticker thread! I did the same to my black car. ;)

I wonder if Jeep makes a Rubicon SS model ?

Now that would be a Winner. When I donned the moniker, the garage had the Black lifted Rubicon w/35's and sitting next to it was my Black SS pushing 600+ to the rear wheels.
Fun toys.
It was a toss up which one was going to kill me first.
SS was a safe bet ;)
When I was Active duty ( maybe 82nd Airborne) timeframe I bought into the live hard and let the cards fall as they're dealt mentality - then came the kids and stuff.
Bummer :)
Some habits die hard - I am who I am.

Jeeps have always been special to me have owned and rebuilt Jeeps since college days (many moons ago). I always enjoyed drag racing, but never owned any thing with 600 to the rear axle, but fortunately the State of NY provided me with occasional fast cars. Some with 454's, L1's and other big blocks, most would go over 140, over 90 for me was scary, maybe cause I was dodging the public on streets where 55 was dangerous.
How I survived that period in my life is still a mystery to me.

The Man up Above kept you around to continue to positively influence our mortal coil as you do routinely.
That's How :)

You let me know if I can clear up other mysteries for you my Friend ;)

Yeah, when a car starts to nickle and dime you, it gets frustrating. I have a 10 year old Honda that is running strong (110k), but I am really wanting a new car already, something fast and fun. The list of possibilities is long, including a Scion FR-S, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, Cadillac CTS-V, and a Subaru WRX Sti.

Oh, and I think someone here has a fast Wrangler...

I never "wheeled" my Camaro and never "raced" a Jeep - some things should be kept separate.
They are certainly America at its best when it comes to good ol' fashioned "Hey lets go have some fun".
I can tell some stories about my Jeeps and my Camaros - I guarantee that.

(but I know who you are referring to and I imagine that is quite a "spunky" jeep :))

I think Sunday evenings are a great time to hang out on "the Porch" BTW ...... Thoughts?

I'm not available for that every Sunday but some of them. It's not a bad idea.

As for cars mentioned in this thread recently...just saw a Camaro ZL1 yesterday...it's obviously special; just by looking at it it's easy to see. And even in black it's obviously not a standard Camaro.

I don't know about you guys but I have a hard time getting rid of a car that served me well. Even if it started failing me in the end. I had a hummer h3 before my current f150. It was a great vehicle and I was really upset when I had to get rid of it, but it was going to cost some serious money to keep it on the road. It ended up being a good move but i do miss that thing. I often feel the same way when I sell off knives. I sold my umnumzaan and sebenza 25 last week to help fund a purchase and I still have a pit in my stomach about it. It was a tough decision but ultimately got me a sweet hinderer. :) I find that more often than not such things end up working out for the best.

All cool vehicles to consider. Let me add a thought to each.

Scion has the youth market feel and cannot shake it. The Red ones get a lot of tickets.

Jeep GC SRT8 is amazing for what it can do, but it's still a SUV.

Cadillac CTS-V is a true sleeper and very awesome performer, but it's still got the Cadillac stigma and "I bought it because I can afford it" appeal like a BMW.

The Subaru STi can also be truly awesome. A little tuning and they can outperform cars that cost 3 or more times their price tag. But it's hard to shake the tuner-car fast/furious feeling and the interiors are not luxurious.

Not fast at all, straight 6 with 5 spd manual, with western Plow that comes in handy in these parts. Any spiked up Jeeps usually end up with four wheels facing the wrong way.

Another thought about gathering here every now and then...

Lotteries bring activity, not all for the best, but activity all the same.

How about an idea that will likely never happen?

An accessory lottery here every now and then but held here on the porch and nowhere else.

Announced on one day, held a day or two later. Brief, but for some things we would love a chance to own....

C/F scales, Ti (in the future brass or copper) standoffs, item(s) not yet available in the Webstore just before they get listed there. The Darkness Skull Investigator....do I / should I even suggest a Ti (textured, come on textured) scale. You guys get the idea.

My feelings reflect yours on those cars. The Scion is youthful, like my Civic, but a lot more fun. But enough power? I am afraid I'd be drifting it too much to make up for lack of straightline speed. And my next car, whatever it is, will most likely be black.

The Jeep, that is my fast yet practical choice.

The Caddy. A little more than I want to spend at the moment, but luxury car prices fall fast, so maybe in a year or two. Supercharged 6.2L, 556hp? Yes, please! I am in love with the black 2 door with black wheels.

The STi, since I want a black car, it wouldn't be a loud color, which would minimize the tuner appearance. And believe it or not, I am not picky about interiors, and actually prefer knobs instead of a bunch of buttons.

I am anticipating a spring purchase, so I am searching now (plus I just love cars, so any excuse will do). Might be keeping my Civic for a winter car, but an all season car would be nice.

I wasn't talking about you, someone here has/had a Viper Wrangler.

I too love things that go vroom. IMagine my dismay when my wife decide that her new car was going to be a Toyota Prius V. Great car but it doesn't go vroom. For now I have my trusty Suburban that's just pushing over 100K and probably has another 100K in her. Thinking about getting one of those cool roof tent set-ups! With my 3 active kids and all their friends and sports the Suburban is the perfect vehicle. But Damn!!! When I see those Rubicons go by with their lift kits and big wheels I drool. I love going off the beaten path and exploring the mountains around Bend, OR. One day...

Hey all :)

Wow, straight 12s the past few days w/out internet access and this place blows up :D

Great post FO! My current RHK addiction aside, the gang here had made this forum my most often frequented by far, I really dig the atmosphere and camaraderie! Sorry to hear about the Honda, the last time I blew a head gasket I was in the middle of Wyoming on my way up to AK the first time. Luckily I was just outside of a decent-sized town so I was able to get fixed and back on the road in time to make my ferry boarding in WA.

While I'm partial to 60's muscle cars, I had a '77 Camaro during HS & college that I ditched shortly after graduating. Sure wish I still had it...

Love the Sun evening gather idea, although it's more like afternoon for me..

N2K - great idea of a porch lottery! Maybe our own version of a pass-around, or would that violate BF rules?

Whew, I think I'm caught up! Now on to the next thread...

I would like to see that one...I have seen the V10 in one wrangler on another website...may be the same one. I have a Wrangler 4dr that I ripped apart and dropped a 6.1 Hemi crate motor into...I enjoy it more than any other vehicle I have owned.
