Our "Front Porch" ....

In the future, things like the FB giveaway will be done in an announcement style thread, I'll post it and lock it. Those that want to participate can feel free to do so.

That giveaway is awesome! Thanks Rob (and Rick, and the whole darn crew!)

So, am I the only one who got this today? Looking forward to playing it, currently installing.

Rob thank you for all of these wonderful opportunities lately. You have been most generous to all of us here at blade forums, the USN, and etc. I hate to speak for the masses BUT it is much appreciated and a big big THANK YOU!!!

Picked up GTA V today also. Threw in the load disc and walked away. If time allows, may play it a bit later. Set up the pre-order on the additional premium content for COD Ghosts also.

As for all the recent lotteries and giveaways I am very grateful they exist!

Wait, so you are going to lock it before I can b!tch and moan about the potential to win a free knife?

I'm sensing a touch of sarcasm...

I hated FB for the longest time but I gave in last year. My biggest worry was security and who could get my information. The pictures I post and things I write are only seen by friends. And not just acquaintances. I take it very seriously, at least the security part. Rob, I fully appreciated the heads up on this forum and USN. I also understand why you locked the thread.

Just a touch.

I never had one for years, only signed up to see a friend's pics that he posted on his FB account of a car he built with parts I helped supply. My account to this day has minimal information, is private and I don't post any information or pics. For instance, my employer doesn't allow me to post who they are or anything about them on any social media sites. I have no problem if people want to be private (I basically agree with that), but it is somewhat curious that someone complains about FB and privacy while having 1,000s of posts on public forums...

;-)

Agreed on the curiosity. I try to convey my thanks for the offerings and well wishes to participants but it seems for naught.

People should be darn glad these offers exist and if you don't qualify or choose to play, so be it.

A new day has dawned, birds chirped, there is a nip in the air that portends the coming of yet another Fall and after it - Winter.
Favorite part of waking up and dressing happened like the mornings before - slid my trusty Hinderer into its well worn "pocket holster" and off for a new days adventure.
Maybe the nature of "New Days" these days is why we all love our Hinderer knives, think about it.

What will today bring? Certainly too much at a pace that is too fast and much of it will disappoint (not all) and certainly NOT what is in our pocket.
The knife in our pocket is one of the things we can know and can count on in a world full of the opposite.
So maybe that is why we like carrying "this knife" so much, maybe.
Layer on top the fact that it symbolizes a nice memory, the excitement of its arrival. Maybe the guys we got to meet as a result or the guys we will meet because we now have it - in our pocket, the knife we like to carry.
It is simple, yet perfect. Chances of it failing or letting us down are nil. AND this thing we carry, we can even be the ones to disassemble it/reassemble it and care for it as well as personalize it, this knife we like to carry.
Batteries don't die, connection isn't lost and there isn't any 2yr contract to upgrade - just Man's oldest tool - made in America - backed by a great group of guys - and it's ALL ours :)

So, Enjoy the new day, Make it a Great one.

One of Philosophical days (some might call malaise) but.... couple conversations today and a visit or two to the news and I was struck by a thought and as usual I tie it back to the Hobby.
The Cost of Non-Compliance.
People doing what they shouldn't and not doing what they should. Selective observance.
Everybody has a personal list (maybe in their head) of what rules or behaviors they are going to adhere to and what ones they are going to ignore and THAT is what serves as "Kick-off" to the Daily Game.
Think of the time and effort and expense that goes in to un-screwing that which is screwed up, fixing the broken and mending the torn.
Boggles the mind at how much fixing we do every day because Somebody did something they shouldn't have done or didn't do something they should have.
Very little goes smoothly.
How does this tie to our Hobby you ask?
Well, Go to a show and you will see. Make it to the Ranch and partake and if you have ever ordered something from Hinderer you already know, and its not just knives.... Everybody can order a litany of other stuff and get the same experience.
You call or go online and "BanG" you get service, communication, your order ships and it arrives and in the off chance something needs to be addressed - Service.
Sounds easy.
In our World - it isn't and it sure isn't "Normal" anymore.
I won't share my current flashlight story (just one example of How NOT to do something)
Anyway, that was the purpose of the post and my thought about.... The Cost of Non-Compliance :)

Rubi, very good summation in today's world of products and service. I had a sign in my office that said " doing your best isn't good enough, sometimes you have to do what is required"

Very pleasant and refreshing dealing with Hinderer Knives and all that make it work so well!

Roger that F.O. - Took me decades to figure out what Mom meant when She said, "Do your best".
I now know Mom meant "Get done what needs to get done - that's what Men do"

It's a whole new day.

Glad to see all the Wharncliffe lotto winners join in the fun.

Welcome to the newer folks.

^^^ This! "If you can't find something nice to say...."

I know there are a few bourbon aficionados around here and thought I'd pass along a recent discovery. I bought a bottle of old grand dad 114 today and for the price it is actually pretty good. This is my first experience with it, and I really only had my first taste a few minutes ago, but it is better than I was expecting. The flavor isn't super complex or interesting, better than the regular old grand dad (James Bond's bourbon of choice for any Ian Flemming fans out there), and the 114 proof gives it the nice warming effect I always appreciate in bourbons. All in all much better than most of the bourbons in the mid $20 price range. I wouldn't put it up against great bottles, but I'll likely buy it again.

P.S. for sharing excessive amounts of Hinderer knowledge with me, maybe I can share a little of my topical, varied knowledge from time to time and make myself useful.

Thanks nhart, nice factoid about mr. Flemming, noted and saved in the bourbon files in my mind, I'll give it a spin sometime.

Hanging out at lunch time on my "back porch", what is more relaxing than sharpening your Hinderer.

I went through all the stones 1000 was the last, then taped 1200/1500/2000 grit automotive sand paper to stones before stroping down to .5 microns

Oh yea, its sharp!

I love my wicked edge. Money well spent. I can't stand a dull knife. I like to keep my hinderers scary sharp. Nice pics by the way, that pond scum is awesome.

Boy do I need to sharpen mine, I think the butter knives in our kitchen are sharper right now...
