Our "Front Porch" ....

Shoot in your BackYard? Who the hell would do such a thing ;)

Very nice Scott. I got a chance to shoot a little today with a friend as well, I was glad to be able to get it out for a bit amidst a busy day of baseball, work, yard work, hair cut, fixing stuff at my in-laws, etc.

man, rubi and the rest of you keep giving my trigger finger an itch!! I havnt gotten the chance to shoot in quite some time...aside for my mossberg 500 i tacd out recently. gotta love the ol' take the shotgun in the woods deal! (safety first ofcorse) once my old man passed away, I lost access to the BEST shooting range in the area. He was a member since they started, and now they are a high tech super popular range. I cant even get on a waiting list for any of the local ranges. the waiting lists have waiting lists, that is if they didnt shut the lists already. One of the many shi**y things about living here in good ol' NY. UPSTATE NY...3.5 hours north of the city. you tell non-new yorkers that your from NY and they think your Robert Deniro or Joe Pesci by default! :p:D

I hear everyone about being alone in your hobby out in the real world. I am so obsessed with Hinderers, I tend to annoy everyone Im close with with all my chatting. I dont care if they care, just PRETEND to give half a shh about my Hinderers and Im happy! haha. thats why Im so happy I found this great group on this board. you guys all rock! Now all I need to do is save money for a show so I can further enhance my experience! I think after my next RHK arrives, I will be spending QUITE some time saving my money again! ;) can't wait tho!

thanks to all you fellers for furthering my love for knife collecting and giving me a warm welcoming place to reside! Now, I should go back to the CRK forum and read my post about when I received my lefty Sebenza 21...because I was soo excited about the quality, and all it took was one member (I need to find out who, because I owe them a big THANK YOU) who said, "oh yeah? now get yourself a Hinderer ;)" ...that was it...that post ALONE got me looking at XMs and I think I had my first one a week or 2 later, the sebenza is fantastic...but my first XM24 totally stole all the spotlight! :) cool story in my book.

thanks again guys! have a great day. :)

You make me even more excited about Hinderers reading this! And I'm already excited about them!! Haha!

This is a great place with great people!

Cheers!

That's a busy day! My kids are on fall break Thurs and Fri so I'm going to sneak out of the office a bit and take them both to the range! Can't wait...hope you guys have a great week! This is my favorite time of the year

Howdy folks! It's been a few days since I've been around here. Lots of the life issues I've been handling for my family lately and at least a couple of nights where I may have chosen to partake in bourbon rather than bladeforums. Thanks for all the encouragement and I'm still working towards my first! I have had rather a lot on my plate lately and the quest for a Hinderer has been actually something of a stress reliever. It is fun to spend a few minutes every couple of hours scouting trades and hunting. It's always nice to have something purely selfish you can do just for a bit to forget the worries of the world.

As to the topic du jour, I'm really lucky in knife conversation terms. My brother in law is my next door neighbor and every bit the knife nerd and more of a gun nerd than I am. My dad isn't a huge knife guy, but at least appreciates quality and has a pretty nice benchmade collection (he adores the axis lock) and is always happy to talk knives. Plus I have an uncle who is a cop and EDCer who may not splurge often in his gear, but loves to talk toys. I feel like I'm way more fortunate than most in that I have 3 unconnected to internet sources people who love to talk knives and gear.

My own conversion wasn't so different, I was into CRK's, and someone told me I should show off my beautiful Sebs, and beat the crap out of an XM-18. That was on a previous trip to the sandbox. I didn't know about direct buy at the time, so I stalked the exchange for a good deal. And I proceeded to beat up that knife. :D

Map...hope you don't mind...I am borrowing one of those killer pics as my phone background. Thanks for sharing them!

Wow Maprik that is a bada** tank!! Love the pics.

I bet that's pretty relaxing looking at that at night..

Thanks guys. Yeah, after just a few minutes you can get lost just watching a fish or crab go about their business.. It's incredibly relaxing.

My kids have been asking for a tank. I'm going to have to show them your pictures. That is really awesome.

I thought I'd throw this out here for the herd and see what pops up. I'm in the midst of rereading the Walt Longmire mysteries (which I love) and a couple of non fiction works on American Indians. Sadly my list of "to read" has grown short enough lately that at least in the fiction realm I'm rereading. Do any of y'all have favorites, preferably in the fiction side but not necessarily, that you would recommend? I spend a fair number of nights reading with a bourbon in hand, my phone or laptop close to keep tabs here, and generally a knife to absentmindedly play with, but I'm running dry on fun reading fiction.

This is non fiction but if you haven't read American Sniper by Chris Kyle I highly recommend it. I just finished reading it for the second time.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm not familiar with Preston or Child, but I'll check them out. I have read Chris Kyle's book and was definitely a fan. For such an American hero, it was refreshing to see just how self deprecating and funny he was.

I have this one... Been meaning to sit down and read it... It's the kind of thing that gets to me though knowing how things turned out so I've been avoiding it... :-S

His sense of humor and self deprecating humility really make it a very fun read. Even outside of his incredible prowess as a shooter and his service, it's hard to not get the feeling he was actually a really great guy to be around. Your right in that knowing how his life ended does somewhat change the story, but the tone of his work and his personality reflect in it to the extent it's pretty much a must read.

Read it. Despite the tragic ending you will enjoy it. Trust me. The book about old white feather is pretty good also.
