Our "Front Porch" ....

I thought I'd throw this out here for the herd and see what pops up. I'm in the midst of rereading the Walt Longmire mysteries (which I love) and a couple of non fiction works on American Indians. Sadly my list of "to read" has grown short enough lately that at least in the fiction realm I'm rereading. Do any of y'all have favorites, preferably in the fiction side but not necessarily, that you would recommend? I spend a fair number of nights reading with a bourbon in hand, my phone or laptop close to keep tabs here, and generally a knife to absentmindedly play with, but I'm running dry on fun reading fiction.

For Me, I enjoy the "Alex Hawke" series by Ted Bell (http://www.goodreads.com/series/45548-alexander-hawke)
the link shows the number and order.
Great read.

Decent little weapon! Real tack driver, Paper plate off at a distance (on the Left)

First three(3) shots are the group to the Right (blue). I thought, "what the heck, little adjustment". Next group (3) are to the Left:D

Good shooting and fun little gun there Rubi! I haven't been shooting in awhile, I think I may have to do that this weekend. On an unrelated note, I received the brown scale that brightb so generously sent me today and had my first scale change. This thing is gorgeous. I really keep expecting at some point to have the joy diminish even just a little at handling and using my XM, but really it hasn't at all. I never thought that I'd be one for spending too much accessorizing a knife, but since I don't really need any other knife for awhile I have now begun my quest to find one of those steel flame horse head beads, because, you know, I desperately need one- or something like that.

Awesome looking gun Rubi!!! Looks like a lot of fun!!!!

Can we have a secret password that we can shout out to you or hold up on a sign at long distance if we want to make our way to your place in case of complete social anarchy or zombie apocalypse?

I will send PM's at the appropriate time Map, as you might imagine I have been asked that a couple times :)
I may start construction on a bunk house this winter.

Well in case the power grid goes down before you can put out the code, when I approach I'll be carrying a sign that says MAPRIK!!

I went to the local True Value today. As I was getting into my truck a guy stopped me and asked me if I raise horses. I said no why do you ask? He said "I noticed the horse sticker in your rear window and thought that you might raise them". I told him no it is actually the logo for Rick Hinderer knives. He said "Rick Hinderer knives? Never heard of them". I happily pulled out my all bronze Ti XM-18 spanto and handed it to him. He looked it over for a min and said "You want a real knife get yourself a Gerber" and handed it back to me. I said "Yeah they make a good knife. Maybe next time my wife goes to Walmart Ill have her grab me one". Then I got back in my truck and went on my way. Haha!

J81 sounds like that guy is incapable of seeing and feeling quality, should tell him that his village wants him back by six pm.

I think this falls into the category of "if you don't have anything nice to say..." for that guy.

When I was in college I worked at a local gun store, one particularly good year I got a full-size Kimber .45 as a Christmas bonus. This was fairly early on when they started producing their pistols. Anyway, I was pretty proud of it and took it to a gunsmith in town, who was just gaining in popularity and reputation (his name sounds like "Harry Reader" ;) ) to perhaps have some custom work done. He glanced at it and pronounced that "Kimber's suck". So, I told him to suck it and left - to this day, as good as his work is, I refuse to do business with him. Not that my lack of business is going to break the guy, but sometimes keeping opinions to yourself is best :)

Nice pic, btw - I might have to put my RHK sticker on mine..

Rick used to design for Gerber.

Yes I actually have one of the Hinderer/Gerber knives that I carried daily for 3 years. I wasnt really trying to knock Gerber. They do make a good knife. I just thought the guy was an a**hole and I wanted to have the last word I guess. I probably should have taken the high road and said that Rick used to design for Gerber. Oh well. Hind sight is 20/20.

I wear the Hinderer shirt that Rob gave me over here in the sand. Yesterday I had it on, some guy asked me what they were. I handed him my XM, he had to ask how to open it. I should have known better, but I showed him how, then handed it back to him. He said "Did you buy this because you couldn't afford a real switchblade? I laughed and told him I have a drawerful of switchblades and not a one of them could take the abuse I can heap on this Hinderer.

Quick question...is the east coast show NEXT MONTH?!! saw a ref to that effect somewhere.........(major bummer cause I just zeroed my knife budget on a ZT560 Blackwash..)

and, Last time I let someone handle one of my knives on the fly......they cut themselves........glad it wasn't my XM, that would have ended badly..... Howcome evrybody has to test a knife's sharpness when ever the pick up a blade???

I can make it on sunday the 24th......have to work on Saturdays....anybody have plans to be there and when? Really want to meet you guys...... I can try to get Saturday off but its tricky...

IMO, if you can - Opt for tricky.
Saturday is really "the day" at the Show. Friday is good too.
Then there is Friday and Saturday Nights at the Bar :)

Rick, Rob, Mike, Pete and I will be there. I will let "Members" speak up for their individual attendence days and times.
Always great getting to meet or see folks.

Throw back a few for me, I'd much rather be there than where I've been recently.
