Our "Front Porch" ....

Snow? I don't know if I am ready yet, I did have to dig out the jeans just recently.

Big news, I accepted a job offer! Going to be making evil black rifles!

Will they run around killing children all by themselves, or will they be defective like every other brand out there?

So I'm sort of excited! It's still (possibly) more steps away then I'd like, but I think I finally may have either the sale value or enough trade value in knives to offer up to get my hands only first Hinderer! I received a strider in trade the other day that should make a good chunk of value. It's a fine knife, but it's not what I'm looking for me. Tonight I can finally put a sale or trade entry that might get me a taker.

Hope the trading goes well NJ, the process of acquiring the first Hinderer definitely adds to the excitement of finally opening the box with the customary "AH" once it's in hand.

Interesting reading on the "Front Porch," I have to get my daily dose of knife people talking everything relating to knives and specifically Hinderer related. I don't know about you guys but my passion for knives has to be somewhat concealed from just about everyone I know. I have no other friends outside of BF that care to talk about knives. If I do talk with them it has to be very tempered otherwise they will believe I'm stranger than I already am. I will sharpen anything that has an edge on it for them, providing I don't get their kitchen knives "too sharp" WTF is wrong with people!

Yesterday while at a soccer game, one of my friends discreetly showed me his Imperial slip joint knife that he carries and asked if I could put an edge on it for him? As you know being on school grounds with a 2 1/2 bladed "weapon" as devastating as a pocket knife would be reason to put the school into Defcon 2 and face criminal charges. Fortunately we were alone on the far end of the field, far from the view of any one that maybe intimidated by such brazen display of weapons of mass destruction. I looked his knife over and gave him credit for EDC of a knife, although upon further inspection the evidence of a power grinder upon the blade was evident.

He asked me what knife I was carrying, I discretely removed my Pond Scum XM 18 from my pocket and showed it to him. "What is this for" pointing to the flipper, " how does it open," "looks dangerous," "what the hell do use something like this for" and then "how much did it cost," enough for me, I put my knife back in my pocket without answering any of his questions. If I had to answer any of his questions, he would not understand anyway. His request for sharpening his knife, denied.

I am so looking forward to the Plaza Show next month to be in a room full of "knife people" not having to explain anything. Walking around meeting new people and maybe some here on the sub forum all talking the same language will be so refreshing! Getting to talk with Rick, Rob, and the crew at their booth will keep me sane until the next show.

Morning F.O.
I understand completely. I too avoid talking about several of my hobbies outside the "Groups" that harbor the same passions.
I find most people have very little that interests them outside the confines of that which is operated by remote control.
Their loss.
I made the mistake of letting my knife hobby be known to a few in town so now if I am in the area and someone even mentions the word "knife" loud announcements can be heard ringing from everywhere, "Oh, There's your Man right over there, wait'll you see His Knife!!!" blah blah blah. I usually look for the closest exit at that point.
It is relaxing to attend a knife show.
I ran into Bob Hart (Hart Rifles) probably some of the finest long range custom made weapons in the World.
His Dad is getting a new Hunting Dog and Wow you wanna talk about "passion" for a Hobby, God bless him.
I was trying to get a cup of coffee and could not figure a tactful way to excuse myself and he would not pick up on my cues.
I was at the Bloomsburg Fair at about 0630 this morning and ran into them there.
I almost pulled out my XM to show Bobby (I wonder, I bet Rick might have a Hart Rifle or two, who knows) He should.
So.... :)

Only a matter of time now NJ! :)

I am fortunate to have a couple of local knife buddies to converse with and share the hobby with -Portlandreign81 and Alexander Dietz. We trade texts daily if not more often. Among neighborhood friends it has slowly gotten around that I am into collecting pocket knives. My neighbor actually brought a CRKT over for me to sharpen for him. He is now scared of the knife since it's so sharp (jokingly) - but he is EDCing it which is a new thing. Our best friends have given me a few kitchen knives to sharpen as well and are quick to comment about it to other people if for some reason the subject of knives comes up (like on a recent camping trip when I whipped out the Junglas to cut up some kindling). The XM never ceases to draw whistles from the guys. One woman friend of ours often does make snide little comments like "Who are you gonna slice open today?" or "Where's your sword?", but for the most part, it's just one of the "interesting" things about me....

My favorite knife and my new favorite hobby :D

Good shooting DPR! Great pic too! I love archery myself. I have a Hoyt! Get serious... Keep flinging those arrows buddy!!

Thanks! That's at about 20 yards. I used to shoot as a kid, but just got back into it in the last few weeks. Such a relaxing hobby and not as expensive as shooting is at the moment. Definitely need more practice. At 30 yards I'm about 4 out of 5 in the kill zone and I know that 1 miss will be the first one that counts :D

Yeah, the wharnie is new :) It was one of the two that were in limbo Monday with USPS, but finally showed up later in the day. Was a huge sigh of relief.

Yes ammo is expensive! That's why I started reloading. But I'm sure you can't shoot your gun in your backyard. That's what so great about it!

That makes me want to shoot! I just love archery. I think I enjoy it more then shooting guns...

You going to go hunting for something?

My old man is really big into archery. He is in shooting leagues, competitions, and goes on hunting trips all the time. He has been bugging me to get into it with him. Once my kids get a little older and it's easier to get away I am definitely going to get into it myself. I've shot his bow a few tines and it is a blast! I still like my guns though. Great pics dprichard.

As I used to say, "The Harder I work and Smarter I plan.... the Luckier I seem to Get" ;)

Lotta years to get here. Enjoying the solitude. The Shooting and Hunting, Fishing, Mountain Biking, Bon Fires and White Water help the Enjoyment.

Sounds/looks like you have a sweet spot there Rubi.

I hope to be in a good spot similar to that someday. I'm still pretty young. Just need some hard work and smart planning with a sprinkle of luck! :)

Cheers Rubi!

I wish you the Best with that quest, ain't a bad target to aim for .....:)

Have a place in North Carolina I'm working on eventually moving to now. Can't wait to get up there so I can shoot in my own back yard :D

Talking about sharpening knifes for other people. My neighbor brought over a 8 inch chef knife for me to sharpen a couple of weeks ago the funny thing was my wife answered the door and there was the neighbor holding a knife. We got a good laugh out of that once my wife calmed down. Now he brings them over after he texts that he's coming and he has them in a paper bag.
