Our "Front Porch" ....

All those things can be had pretty inexpensively. Some guys just go to Harbor Freight and get that stuff... I'm sure if you wanted to spend a little more you could get something that is actually good though

Good morning :) Anyways, the wife and I are refinishing our kitchen cabinets currently. And the sander I have is terrible!

So I was wondering if any of you fine fellows had a recommendation for one.

Thanks

Depends on what type of sanding you are talking about. I'll assume you mean a sander for the flat surfaces. If cost is no option, a Festool Rotex RO 150 (or 125) is awesome. Add a vacuum to it and go to town. If cost is a concern, I prefer the Bosch 6" orbitals (compared to Porter Cable or the like), the 3727DEVS is a good choice.

I like Mirka Abranet sandpaper or Gold if you want a traditional style paper.

Just bought the makita and some sand paper for it!! Now I'm excited to use it!! :)

You move quick. Some added discussion points would be.... I have a many shop vacs, one of which I have the small connector that I can affix to my exhaust chute on the Makita (instead of the bag) that is a nice work saver for clean up. Not a factor if you are doing all the work in the garage away from the living area but for the frames (assuming the cabinets aren't being completely taken down) the fine sawdust can be a PIA.
It is nice having the model with variable speed as well, the one I use most doesn't and it has never been a factor because proper sandpaper grit and hand pressure is just as important to finishing as anything.

I have my kitchen all taped off with vis clean enclosing the whole space. I do have a shop vac but I think it will be too big. Thanks for the pointers. Greatly appreciated.

The home depot guy guy recommended the makita as well :)

See! Me and the Home Depot guy - can't go wrong:) but seriously, for the money the Makita is a workhorse. I have many friends/clients in the trades and most use Makita for circular saw, sanders and drills. Milwaukee for right angle drill, impact/hammer drills and reciprocating saws and so on.
I have had mine for 15+ years and it is still going strong. The lesser examples give up in the bearing packs/motor and become expensive throw aways.
Good luck and have fun with it.

I know! I'm tellng ya!!

I'm an industrial electrician. So we don't do much sanding. But the other tools I know about.

Yeah I came home on Monday. My wife had it off. She was sanding away letting the sawdust fly every where. I'm making her do the cleaning :D

Hey, God Bless at least She was in there waling away gittin' r' done. That's a good woman right thar.

I am warming up to the Rigid brand also (Great shop vacs) Great Warranty too. I bought a worm drive circular saw, a table saw, Compound miter saw and a couple shop vacs.
One of the shop vacs (I dropped it) broke a piece off and honest to God, they gave me a new one no questions asked. I was dumb founded.
Circular saw, sanders and drill(s) I have Makita
Milwaukee rounds out the rest of my 18v stuff as well as sawzall and right angle drill
Porter cable and Dewalt I have routers and some pneumatic nailers as well as Bostitch

Well when I got home from work I pulled out the new Makita sander... Boy it works great!! Thanks again for the recommendation Rubi :D

The work that I did last night with the ol' junker sander made the Makita look like the Michael Jordan of sanders...

Yes I have to agree Rubi, my wife is kick ass for getting in there and sanding away. She digs that kind of stuff! What can I say, I'm one lucky dude.

And she proceeded to tell me how lucky I was last night too. By listing off 10 facts about gingers(redheads for those that don't know) Is that she is the rarest of all out there(like Unicorn stuff).... Red hair and blue eyes... 1% of all population she tells me have this configurattion. Wow!! So my point is that I am lucky in more ways then one to have her :D

Rather than starting an unnecessary thread, I thought I'd just ask yall here since I'm sure I'm just late to the party and everyone else here already knows  I'm biting the bullet and finally buying the stuff to finish setting my xm up like I want, but I don't even see a pocket clip tab on the website. I'd like to get myself a bronze clip and filler tab since I'm going to bronze out the hardware or even just a blasted to match my XM rather than the blue. Where can I find these to order them (or can I even order them)? Thanks in advance!

Quoting Rob from the sticky...

Everyone one is always looking for the blue/bronze clip and fillers. I have never seen a dealer or RHK have them in stock since I've been addicted to Hinderers. Just keep your eye out on the exchange. Other than that maybe Rob could fill us in when the next batch is :)
