I started growing mine out over a year ago (my genes do not allow for fast growth), even during 'hot' weather it's not really that bad; the only issue I have is that it whistles in the wind when I'm going fast while riding my bike, it's amusingly annoying when I'm trying to concentrate on whatever book/podcast I'm listening to on the ride.
Mines growing faster than I thought it would. I read somewhere to expect a half inch per month. I was thinking about trimming it, but, the hell with it, let it grow and let it flow.

Coconut oil massaged into the beard every few days stops any itching for me. I keep my stash trimmed to a number one. I hate having hair in my mouth. I keep sideburns trimmed to a number 3, just to the bottom of my ears. Didn't like hair tickling the inside of my ears lol...

The rest i just let grow until i feel like trimming it... I have had it so long i could fold it over and touch my forehead with it. But i recently trimmed it so right now it's at about 2".

Never tried any products actually designed for beards. Just took these pictures. This is as low as i trim it down to. My wife loves it when it's this length. She says if i shave it off she'll stab me.. But she doesn't like when it gets to 4"... So i try and stay in between 2-3" when I'm not being lazy lol

I once saw a FaceBook meme, I think on Breach, Bang, Clear!'s page, but couldn't find it later when I looked. It was two old-style GI Joes with tactical beards. It said:

"Men who shave their beards for no good reason should also shave their legs....

....and their vaginas."

I've been rocking a full beard for awhile now. When I started a couple of years ago, I had to keep it trimmed pretty close due to my job at the time. Not a factor anymore with my current occupation so I am letting it grow and do its thing. I have it professionally trimmed/cleaned up about every 5-6 weeks so I don't look like a complete hobo. I also have used oils and waxes from the get go, otherwise the skin itches like crazy and the "beardruff" falls like snow...

I recommend Bossman Jelly Beard Oil and Bossman Beard Balm, best stuff I have used yet. I also use Bearded Bastard wax for the mustache. I haven't experienced the itch or dandruff in quite some time, the stuff really makes a difference.

Since I typically don't engage in the habit of taking selfies, I am simply going to use the same one my wife requested of me the other day. This is my thrilled to be at work face.
