Paramilitary refinement - need input

Hi NoFair,

We have Foliage green G-10 being custom made at this time.

Fantastic news, Sal!!! Black gets old after a while. I also like blue scales, but that may not appeal to the tactical crowd who the Para is marketed towards.

Now, what about that pink Delica?:D

liner lock only thing that keeps me from carrying one

good steel, BG 42 S30V M2 D2 or a H1 version.....

tip down carry

After carrying the Paramil for a few weeks, I have just one recommendation. Break the sharp edges of the G10 scales along the inside top edge. I noticed that releasing the compression lock caused my finger to get pinched on the inside edge of the scale. I disassembled and broke the sharp edge near the compression lock notch and the results are positive.

4 position clip
License the Axis Lock
ZDP-189 Option
Soften ALL handle corners

That's all I would worry about Sal.

BTW...Keep up the fantastic work Sal. Your responsiveness and consideration for your customers is the best there is. You are a tribute to our country.

My 2 cents:
what I like
-contrary to a lot of users, I really like the handle size and ergs (maybe its just my hands)
-blade size
-compression lock
what I'd like to see
-tip up carry
-deeper pocket clip

And finally, something that separates the para from the rest of the Spydie pack: not just CF, coloured handles, etc.. although these are all great comments.
I think something that hasnt been done by Spyderco yet or hasnt been done in a while, would be good for the paramil... like ppl have suggested: possibly a different steel or rare handle material

However, it is my EDC so I may be a little biased.

I will throw my 2 cents in here. I need the blade to be exactly 3 inches or less and I would love a Premium steel (ZDP-189, S30V, M2). The other wish would be a Frame Lock. Steven
p.s. the fact that Sal even asks for user opinions in a place like this goes miles towads my opinion of him and his products.

sorry to suggest a very serious alteration, Sal. but erhm......ditch the comp.lock and get it liner-locked.

just my idea how that para would get better......:o

Hello, I've been carrying one daily now for the past six months; it's the plain edge black bladed one. The only complaint so far is the sharp handle at the end and the birds head picky think at the end. That pinky thing jammed my hand up against the front of the knife where the index finger goes. So, I took a file to the pinky shelf and filed it down. The knife is now much more comfortable in the hand. I've had a bunch of spyders, and this one's my favorite.
thanks for listening,

Out of all my one-handers the current Paramil fits the single-knife only mold the best. However...

Since we'd only be losing a few 1/16" I'd also like the 3" spot on blade length. Compression lock is just fine for me.

If you decide on a tip up only config, please do whatever to make the tension a little stronger keeping the blade closed. I sometimes carry inside the waistband and I don't think it has enough tension for tip up without the blade against a pocket seam. If tip up or down is available then cool.

Handle to blade ratio is good. I don't believe in any of the 1 to 1 is most efficient hoopla.

I rounded the G10 edges on mine, more comfortable IWB. Heck I'd love a lockback FRN one too!

I wouldn't change the design, bg-42 and CF would be the only suggestions I would make. This knife is almost perfect for law enforcement carry in my opinion.

Figure out what the malfunction is with the tang/lockbar that allows vertical blade play even after plenty of wear(vertical play is a common complaint) , and move the hump that supports the pinky finger further back to allow a full grip without using the choil, instead of just having a scaled down Military(I ground mine with a Dremel tool, and I have small hands, so imagine most men would find the grip cramped).

Foliage green sounds cool. I'll probably be buying another Paramilitary at some point, since my current one gets a lot of use, and is pretty beat up.

Foliage Green G-10.
NO liner Lock, Compression lock is fine.
Round & Soften all the edges - handle and blade.
BG-42 would be nice, but VG-10 is just fine.

I've just get a Paramilitary, and I can't be more impressed!

The simplicity and eficiency of the design is astounding! I'm considering to buy another Paramili, is the first time that happens to me!

The only thing I will change is the clip, I found it too long and sharp. Other than that Sal have my eternal admiration for the Paramilitary.

====================
Sorry for my english :foot:

I would only change the protruding tang, that is the only annoyance with my Para.
I think any color other than black G10 would be gross. Why the facsination with foliage green?

After cutting a fair bit of cardboard with mine, I'd like a different steel. The S30V on mine is microchipping both on the sharpmaker rods and on the cardboard. I wouldn't mind getting a BG-42 blade put in.

Microchipping on cardboard? How small is mircochipping? I cut cardboard with my Para all the time and the edge has remained smooth. I can't feel anything when I run my fingernail down the edge.

I use a little scope I bought at Radio Shack to view the edge. I have a thread in the review board about it. Other knives chipped as well, but the para had the most chips, and was the only one I saw chip from sharpening.

I think the wish for a non-black colour and Sal said they were thinking of foliage green like they use with their Delicas and Enduras that were released.

It is a very nice colour for people who like a more subdued colour than black. I think most soldiers try to avoid black since it sticks out a bit...
Not everybody likes black best.

Since they don't plan on discontinuing the black one I wouldn't be worried if I were you.

I have one and I really like it. Compression lock had a minimum vertical play which had been taken care of by rotating the back rest of the blade. I like the ergos. I'm sure that the annoying sharp corner (the back of the blade protruding from the handle) will disappear on the next gen so it's not worth mentioning. I'm not a steel junkie so I'm happy with what is currently used.
I've modified mine by drilling and tapping the holes to fit a clip (taken from a s/s delica) to carry tip up right handed. The only improvement I could see as a "must have" would be the 4 ways clip.
Green and may be fire red or blaze orange G-10 could be a nice addition (depending on one's lifestyle or line of work)
