Paramilitary refinement - need input

Low ride clip for sure, 4 positions would be nice, and make the clip a wire clip.
As for the scales some other color than black would be nice.

Sal,

I am impressed at the very narrow range of ideas on how to improve the Para. I think it goes to show how much thought went into the design before it went into production.

I have three thoughts; a couple of which I think have already been posted.

First, finer jimping, top and bottom - as in the BG 42 Military

Second, I would like to see Titainum clips - in a satin or "stonewash?" finish.

Third, a small, but to me, significant, clip redesign. I refer to what someone in another thread called a "Steristrip" clip, and what I call a paddle clip design.

If I recall correctly, there was such a paddle clip shown on an early pre-production photo of the Endura 4, posted here on bladeforums or on the Spyderco home formum. I believe such a clip would add to both form and function.

Change the scale color. My choices in order of preference - Foliage or Sage Green, Tan, or Coyote Brown
Upgrade the Blade steel? I am probably not enough of a steel junkie to really know the difference, but I am gadget junkie :D

And to reinforce your initial post, smoothing out the sharp edge on the back edge of the spine would be great!

As always, thanks for inviting and listening to our input.

ride lower on clip is a good idea and have a smoother clip like the new endura so there are no squared edges to scratch things

I just measured the blade lenght when open on mine and it's at exactly 3". Why is this a problem?

I measured from the G10 to the tip of the blade. It's 3".

Mine measures 3 1/16", and even 3" won't fly if the law says the blade must be LESS THAN 3". Like I said, it isn't a problem where I live, the limit here is no more than 4". So I can legally carry my Military, but not my Police

G10 in OD or colour close to the foliage green.

New clip making it ride somewhat lower...

I'd love this for the Millie as well... If the millie I looked at on Friday had been in OD G10 it would have been in my pocket at the moment:D

Small rant: Why are all knives black? Especially the tactical/army ones? Black stands out everywhere except next to black which isn't often encountered by soldiers....

PS! OD knife handels are very nice looking as well, just look at some of the custom micarta ones.... Please Sal;)

M2 Blade
BG-42 or
ZDP 189
in that order

also

smaller handle or slightly longer blade. There is a lot of handle there for that size blade.

I understand about the blade length but it would have been nice. I go to a lot of towns that have the 3" limit. Looks like I'll stick with the delica.:(

I think this knife would be a great candidate for Ti handles and frame lock construction. And, a 4-way clip.

A more pronounced guard or finger cutout would be great. Biggest flaw in my opinion is the real or perceived lack of handle security on a hard use knife. Compare against the Manix family, which has a really secure handle.

HHUUMM, does this mean we may see a Military with green scales soon?

I'd like to see a better blade to handle ratio. The handle is almost 1 2/3 inches longer than the blade. I like to get the most blade that will fit in the handle. Many designs will accommodate a blade just an inch shorter than the handle. Lengthen the blade or shorten the handle.

My thoughts too.

Hi NoFair,

We have Foliage green G-10 being custom made at this time.

Thanks Sal!

Any chance of this for the Military as well (sprint run or exchangeable scales?) The Para is slightly too large to carry daily here in Norway (law issues) and for outdoor use the size of the Military is better... I'll use my Pacific Salt in the field while waiting for the perfect Millie to come along:D

Might break down and buy a green Para anyway... I'm not too good at resisting stuff like this:o

Love the "round the pivot" clip - makes the knife look very tidy.

Love the blade to handle ratio - why I bought it.

An easy adjust pivot screw (retrofittable) would definitely be a plus. The Torx and hex are a pain.

I'd like to see an H1 version. Is that crazy?

How about fully serrated?

A wave option would be cool.

Thanks for asking Sal.

yer well a four way clip mayb a sprint run in stainless steel handle an umgrade on the blade materail and finally use the lock the manix had i dont really trust the compression lock has 2 much blade play

I like my PM fine (except I would go for the plain edge version if I did it over again).... but the clip definitely needs work for a knife priced at over $100.

The edges of the clip on my knife were hella sharp out of the box - not user-friendly at all. I had to file them down, losing black coating in the process. And I would agree with the low-riding mod. All pocket knives should ride as low as poss.

Also offering another option for positioning the clip would be great (I don't think four way is necessary, two way is fine).

Good luck with the project Sal!

please! CPM S30V is too damn hard to sharpen - it's THE reason I got rid of my Paramilitarys! Otherwise, they are perfect!

Seems lots of people are talking about clored G-10...
What are the chances of seeing this bad boy in peel-ply CF?
