Pass Around Salsa Idea

This is a great idea. Those of us with digital cameras should do this. A week is going to go by so fast when we have it!

This is going to be like that party game where you sit every one down in a circle. Tell the first person a phrase to pass on, then see what ya end up with once it goes down the line. :) You might have a Case Butterbean come back to you at the end of 10 weeks. :) LOL
Sounds like a cool experiment!! Good luck to all.

Or the boxer Butterbean, if it's anything like the telephone game we used to play.

Great idea, I will do just that when the knife gets to South Dakota.
Had a dream last night, I checked my mail box and there were like 10 knives in it :D

I think it would be cool for others to do it as well. I have a large Sebenza that just went in for refurb that I was thinking about selling, but if this goes well I might consider trying it with the refurbed sebbie.

How many people would give it a try and say "hey! I need one of these!"

Now that idea I like. I would love to see and try a Sebbie before making a purchase of one.

If you decide to do the Sebenza AND will consider expanding it to include Canada then I would be very interested in being on your Sebenza list.

Due to the value of the knife perhaps we should upgrade it to UPS or Fedex or Priority mail so it can be tracked and insured?

Also, if anyone wants to do this once the new Ocelot comes out from Spyderco please let me know.

How about 12 people using the knife for a month each? Then we would get input on how a knife performs over the scope of a year.

Chris

I would guess that a full month and a year for a full pass around would way be too long.

I think if someone used a knife for a month, they'd forget they'd have to pass it on. Now multiply that by 12. The person's who knife it was would have to keep track of it for a full years time which I think would be unreasonable.

If you need a full month to decide if you like a knife, IMO you don't use it enough, or you can't make up your mind. Besides a full month? That's not trying it to see if you like it. That's renting or leasing it and the owner should be charge appropriate fees.

YMMV

Very cool idea.., I'll be watching for the results...

Man, I wonder if there will be anything left of the little guy when everyone is done.

Actually it's been here since Thursday but I wanted to use it a little before I posted. Overall I like the Salsa a lot. I have used it for the usual stuff like opening the mail but i have also been using it at work and to do a little food prep. The first thing I did was look over the fit and finish of the Salsa. I wanted to check out the first "made in Taiwan" Spyderco and I'm happy to say that it is Fist rate and on par with what I have come to expect from Spyderco. everything is solid and the compression lock seems rock solid ( I trust it but just didn't think whacking it around on the spine was necessary.) at work I used it to unpack several pieces of equipment. the wide blade was kinda awkward at cutting the straps but was sharp enough so that when I just get the tip under the straps it would slice them good. after unpacking the boxes I had to break them down and the Salsa was awesome for this. I had put a grippy hair shaving edge on it the night before so it sliced through the thick cardbord easily. The handle really fills my hand and combined with the short blade it gave me a lot of control and just felt really good while getting the job done. I broke down about six boxes cutting each one twice. It was a good amount of cutting and when I was done the blade needed to be touched up a little but was still utility sharp.

Food prep was another issue. I used it to slice up strawberries and potatoes and found the blade just too wide at the tip for my liking. It wasn't really made as a kitchen knife anyway so i'm not saying it's a downside just something to think about.

the one thing that I didn't like was that the compression lock has pinched my fingers about 10 times since I recieved the knife. I don't know how but when I open it, my finger is just right there to get pinched. it hurts a little but mostly just annoys me.

All in all I like the Salsa a lot for gereral EDC use and the green aluminum scales make it a cool piece of gear to have. after I showed it to a buddy at work, he liked it so much he went and bought one to replace (thank god) his P.O.S. Smith and Wesson S.W.A.T. So i'd say the Salsa is a success. Spyderco made it at a price point that even my Cheap friend could agree with. I'll probably get one before my next trip to Korea for a small EDC (I don't think they're gonna like me carrying my Dalton Scalper around there) now if Spyderco will just make them in ORANGE! like the Leatherman Juice.
