Ok. I have a question. Both of these knives have received a lot of praise in these PIF threads, but I have never tried either out.

Help me decide between buying an Opinel #8 or a Svord Peasant Knife (regular, not small.)

Thanks for any input! If there are any other similar knives I should know about, please tell me.

Both in carbon. Also douk douk, aitor castor, and mercator.

Aww man, I missed the Featherlight by a mile. I love me some carbon fiber. I will be putting another knife up here soon, my modified Svord Peasant. It just never gets carried any more. Keep an eye out here for it.

Nice, looking forward to THAT! ;)

Just a heads up; I might bow out for a while. Life is catching up. I have to send a multitool to Wolf_HR, but aside from that I think all is clear. I'll stick my head in from time to time, prob on the weekends mostly.

PIF POST
I feel like it is time for me to put something up so, here it is.
I am offering another Buck Mini-Buck. There are no conditions on this one, so if you want it, let me know!

Understandable, but you will be missed!

Will definitely be missed. I think it may slow down a bit especially with Thanksgiving and people traveling and all. Lets not the rest of us despair. We'll just ride out the slow period and make a point to rejoin when things settle back down.

Hate to see you go Remy but we totally understand. You can still hang out and chat about all the great knives that are being passed around here. You have been one of the main contributors to keeping things alive around here.

Can somebody help me out here. Im not into claiming any knives anymore. I got that chive which is the only thing I could ever need to go with my 0561.
However, does any body have one of two things. Sharpmaker parts or stones. I have a very old set, the base it worn, the stones are worn. And I broke one of my diamond rods. So any help would be great.

Mostly a question here.I am also curious what anyone might have as strop media. Mine had red on it when I purchased it make homemade, but that has worn. And there is nothing available local besides online. I simply go from my fine sharpmaker rods to the strop so nothing super crazy like diamond paste. I just use it to remove the burr. Or is a naked strop the way to go?

-And to make up for my being annoying I have a Gerber Curve to give away now. It is a pretty sweet tiny little knife, like the size of a spyder bug. And it opens beer. The lock on this one has plenty of life and there is no play. Like new and sharpened. LMK and the multi tool plyers are still available.
Thanks guys.

And to the guys that I sent the other items to, email me if you got them. Id like to know that they at least arrived.

Hey cold steel, to answer your strop compound question, I use green buffing compound. Sticks are available in most hardware or auto parts stores and often even walmart. I have a double sides strop, and after my finest stones I go to the green side, then to The other side loaded with white, which really isn't required. I just rub the stick of compound on the strop to load it, and once it starts to turn black and shiny after a few uses, I rub it hard with a cloth to take the old compound off and reload. A stick is usually a few bucks and would last a lifetime.

Ok, I have green at work near my old buffer, i did not realize that is the same stuff. I will grab some this week and give it a try. Thank you. And I will use the cloth trick to remove the excess. I thought that the green I have might be too hard to apply. But I guess not. Thanks.

Man my strop (which is by for my most used piece of sharpening equipment) is made out of an old 99¢ leather belt from the thrift store and a piece of wood I found. I use a stick of harbor freight green compound, all in all I have under $8 in it and like I said its my most useful piece of equip.

I know one guy was making them and givin them out in these threads but incase no one can help you out you really don't have to spend more than a few bucks to make your own.

I did make my own out of a nice piece that is 2 by ten, which I put onto my old wood paddle, I was mostly curious about the compound which I will try out tomm, I have a two pound brick of that green stuff. Even if it only helps a little that is fine. My sharpening speaks for itself . So its just a final touch up for me. But that is what makes the final edge that much better. Now just to find some sharpmaker parts.

Im trying to get a pic of the curve, But I guess that link works fine. I dont know how to post pics off of image searches, It just doesnt work for me.

You will be amazed at what stropping does, especially if your already getting a good razor edge, its a whole new game...

And a little (tiny) bit of mineral oil can help the compound to stick, again just a very small amount. I use green and it puts a mirror bevel on the blade but I also have white and use it on my fillet knife or other knives I just want to show off with.
