Mostly a question here.I am also curious what anyone might have as strop media. Mine had red on it when I purchased it make homemade, but that has worn. And there is nothing available local besides online. I simply go from my fine sharpmaker rods to the strop so nothing super crazy like diamond paste. I just use it to remove the burr. Or is a naked strop the way to go?
Man my strop (which is by for my most used piece of sharpening equipment) is made out of an old 99¢ leather belt from the thrift store and a piece of wood I found. I use a stick of harbor freight green compound, all in all I have under $8 in it and like I said its my most useful piece of equip.
I know one guy was making them and givin them out in these threads but incase no one can help you out you really don't have to spend more than a few bucks to make your own.
I did make my own out of a nice piece that is 2 by ten, which I put onto my old wood paddle, I was mostly curious about the compound which I will try out tomm, I have a two pound brick of that green stuff. Even if it only helps a little that is fine. My sharpening speaks for itself . So its just a final touch up for me. But that is what makes the final edge that much better. Now just to find some sharpmaker parts.
Im trying to get a pic of the curve, But I guess that link works fine. I dont know how to post pics off of image searches, It just doesnt work for me.
You will be amazed at what stropping does, especially if your already getting a good razor edge, its a whole new game...
And a little (tiny) bit of mineral oil can help the compound to stick, again just a very small amount. I use green and it puts a mirror bevel on the blade but I also have white and use it on my fillet knife or other knives I just want to show off with.
WoooooThanks a lot, RemyKaze and good luck with the new job! I'm being crushed at my job (lately, a colleague who has a desk job has recruited me for her companion for leisurely walks home, as a form of excercise- she has 5 miles to walk home, and me a few miles more, I think 8 in total)...
I dont know how to post pics off of image searches, It just doesnt work for me.
Okay. This needs a jump start so I will put forth a SAK tinker. The condition is to abide by the rules of this thread and all previous incarnations of it. Based on the responses I get through my email through this forum. I will select a worthy person on December 1st.
So if I am understanding this if I have something, like a couple of knives I don't use, I can just offer them up here?
This is complete Greek to me.In on a give away,
100 converted LC to 300 BLK cases(converted by a commercial outfit, not me), annealed, email me a Pic of your 300BLK with a card with my user name by your Blackout(please no photoshop'ed jobs).
Send to my user name to gmail.
I have an older Spyderco with a broken clip(clip was molded into handle), I'll find a pic, and take 100 names(not yet, need to find the blade) and draw a random # for it next.
People dont get 100 emails even when the items are without a catch.
Lionesser has still received 0 on the ask that's been up for many days now..
Email sent, love a SAK with a saw. This offer is still available. Currently have received 0 replies.
Good luck on the new Job Remy. Thanks guys. I'm just "in the zone" tip I settle into my new job, then I'll probably buy some things to spread the love of inexpensive, decades proven tools.![]()
