STV - thanks for the info. so are they numbered similar to opinels? 2 = 2", 9 = 9", etc. Glad you're using that Mora to its fullest. Naw thats just the plain carbon steel. I kept the Laminated for myself but still haven't go to any woods to put it to the test. I'm gonna start looking for good wood to start making some sculptures with it. if you know any good place to look for slabs let me know.

I do swing my Opinel 8 around on my way home from work late at night but mainly just to trim hedges and tree branches while noones looking. lol

Cutter - these are beautiful. Are you sure you're ok giving away your dad's knives. I respect the desire to keep knives used. I only like users and use every knife i own. I'm also a traditional fanatic and use them everyday. I would be honored to take these two and pass on a couple i have sitting around. Thanks for offering.

I'm sure about paying these forward. I have others from him, well actually my son has them so I really think my dad would be tickled to move them along. Just send me your shipping info to my email account and I'll get them out USPS Priority mail.

Btw, both have excellent walk and talk!

Putting it out there again - Who wants a Leatherman Squirt? Its similar to a Micra, but a little smaller. It unfolds into a fantastic pair of scissors. Let me know by post here and email me your address and include your username.

They're pretty dear, one I don't like so much but my mom gave it to me as the only thing I got for my birthday lol. I've been trying to figure how to make it better.

None for New York City.

All are definitely fit for camping. They're camp knives, definitely not bushcraft and moras are the bomb.

I guess the thing that Beckers bring to the table is being massively overbuilt and baton-ability at economical Prices. But I Also like the designs. I think the bk-14 and the bk-16 would be sweet knives that are also sensible but have never laid my hands on them.

That's OK though because there are plenty of people out there to swear by the tweeners and Eskabar.

I've only got a 2 (wish it was a 10) and a 9. The thing that really flipped my switch on beckers is the Bk9, the knife is just so well balanced and has tremendous chopping power, it even took a piece out of my pinky for me >.<

But as a man with a sharp small knife and a saw, I often question the sanity of swinging around a 9" hunk of cro-van but then I remember that it's a 9" hunk of cro-van..

In short, if you get a Becker, get a 9. It might be crazy but it's a sweet knife, that's large yet nimble.

I think a lot of what is awesome about Becker knives is the Becker community. A lot of the guys are really into the outdoors and use their knives hard. I think that's a pretty strong selling poi t on the Beckers for me, a strong active user community and Ethan is involved in his forum and pays attention to what we are doing with his knives.

Order a kabar catalogue and thumb around it. I'm sorry that I can't part with one at this miment man, I'm not as blade rich as I seem xD.

Heck, I've been using the crap out of your Mora, was that thing laminated? Its defitely laminated in some form..
I prefer ESEE for the larger versions. Tweeners I like a little more than the 4, but love the ESEE 3, Izula and Candiru. I don't think the Remora or Acheron are good competition for the Candiru. Becker will prob come out with another smaller knife. I'd like to see a becker axe or hatchet since ESEE is more about machetes, due to their location. I take it you aren't as fond of ESEE?

No, they are all different models. The 9 and its length are coincidental. The 2 is 5" but at .25" wide, its a little blunt in my hands. I need to get it reground. The 10 is nearly the same but at a more sensible width, or its more similar to a short 9 if you wish. There is also a middle lentgh of the same pattern labeled the bk7.

The rest are completely different knives. From the Machax (machete axe) to the Eskabar (esse izula handle on the Becker necker bk11 blade)

If anyone needs anything, its an Opinel ;) I'm glad that you have one

I'd love to track down an ESEE lite machete but can't find one that affordable. Are they still making it ? And after the pumpkin my son carved for Halloween I'll be on the look out for an ESEE offered up, to try to get him one

How old is this kid? Cuz that thing is awesome. Very talented.

I'll crash your gates to get at one of those esses, not that I need it forever. Just that I own kabars/Beckers and everythime I recommend Becker's, someone puts it down with an "esse" bump and says they're better because of heat treat.

I just Wanna get my hands on one (not an izula) and see if it really is all the jazz that fanboys say they or if it's just that they come stock with micarta handles/kydex sheaths and the Beckers come "upgradeable"

If I get one in a claim, I'd just use it, abuse it, and put it back to thread. If it really is so good that I fall in love with it, then I could donate one of my Beckers.

Just saying, I'll be on the lookout...
Lol I just did exactly what you said. Tbh my first becker was the bk16, and my first one wouldn't hold an edge and would barely take it so I had to send it back. The replacement I received worked pretty awesomely. I say the tweeners probably have more comfortable handles than the 4, and IMO better blade shapes, althought the Laser Strike is sick too. I think the Junglas beats out the BK9. I find the blocky ends of the handles get in the way of choking up, which I can do with the Junglas, and it was definitely designed with perfect balance in mind. The 6 and bk7 are comparable though I prefer the warranty and handle moddability (not a word) of the 6 as well as the sheath. The 5 and bk2 are comparable, but you can't beat the BK2 for the price. I haven't checked out the bk14, 11 (?) Or 24, but I'd put them in the same league as the Izula anyday based on blade shape. The Candiru has no comparison knife with Becker, and I find it to be a beautiful EDC esp when convexed. The ESEE lite machete is an Imacasa blade. Better off getting an Imacasa, Tramontina or Condor machete unless you just love the handles, however condor has micarta handles too.

So, tl; dr = ESEE 6, Junglas, Laser Strike, 3, Izula, Candiru. Becker 14, 11, 24, bk2, all the tweeners.

My next fixed will be either a Survive! smaller blade or the ESEE 3 clip point, of which I am very fond.

See my post below yours. The ESEE Lite Machete is an Imacasa blade, not covered by ESEE warranty completely like their knives. Better option to get a Condor with micarta. Or better yet a tramontina or imacasa you'll never be afraid to use for ugly jobs! Get it from baryonyxknife, and he will mod it for you if you wish for a very small fee. I had my edge brought down to the handle for close work, and had the spine squared for firesteel. It's a real do-all tool now.

Never touched an ESSE.

Every time I see camp knife threads , ease wins out over Becker. People say heat treat and I dont believe that. Kabar a wonderful heat treat and 1095 Cro-Van is a marvelous steel.

They are solid knives. In my opinion, once something is built a certain way (to a certain standard) at there core piece of it, it can get any better. The only thing that can go up is the hardware.

Whether that beer guitars or knives, there same be true.

Switck to stainless bolts, a little loctite on them, upgraded Handles, after market sheath. Factor all that in and you've got a knife the same price of an esse.

I can't afford all that jazz, solo the benefit of Becker is that I slap a little tape on the handle for grip and go to work.

BTW, I've been using that sapien to fill the role of a tweener of what id planned on a 14 for. I am very pleased. It stays in my backpack, I pull it out when I need a knife. I worked some wood with it the other night. Am I missing out on something awesome from the tweeners cause I'm very happy with this condor.

Yep. Started with a 12, then an 8, then 6, And most recently a guy named Jake on here gifted me a No 2 keychain. I think I have a weird OCD thing a about the even numbers. Just need the 4 and 10.

All mine are modded, though I went overboard on my & and now the locking turns all the way around. Still works but a little sad. I'll get my camera soon and share pics.

Well, I love the way micarta draws in my sweat, blood and tears. Weird eh? Makes it mine. I love modding handles too. I feel very pleased with the ESEE warranty. They trust me not to break their blades pointlessly, so if I do I have it completely guaranteed for life.
I think the BK16 has a cooler look, of course. I wouldn't say the handle is more comfortable. The sapien cuts wood better because it is ground to that spec. A convex is just a smooth, bullet shaped scandi. The tweeners would be better for food prep of course, and sapien is traditional while the beckers are more modern. I will edit this to post some pics in a sec. I have ipe scales on my bk16, which is one of the hardest woods in the world.

People say warranty too, what they may not realize is that beckers have warranty as well.

Old uncle Ethan considers batoning "normal use" and while the kabar warranty states explicitly "no batoning" to deter foolishness, Uncle E says "yes batoning" and if you're not a moron about it, you should be covered

I should clarify that that what is considered normal use is "proper batoning"

Now, if you smack your knife through the wood using the backside of an axe, well... that's how I broke my 1st two knives :D

Lol!!

They accepted my first bk16 as a bad heat treat, but told me they wouldn't replace it for me again. So basically, if I break the knife doing normal tasks in Ethan's mind, Ka-Bar won't see it the same way.

Those ipe scales and that opinel look great Rem!

Nice pieces :)

Thanks man. I flamed the Opi then rubbed it down with linseed oil with a leather glove. If I were to stain it the burning would make the lines pop out drastically.

Hmm. I wouldn't think that you'll have many issues if it comes into problems, just take it to the forum right.

Now, Ethan has stated that if you break a 16 while using it as a prybar, then maybe you should've picked another knife since he has knives that are built for that; the 16 isn't one of them.

Which seems fair enough.

Nothing much to do with your particular case. Just a little little insight into what one can expect from a Becker. Which is basically just common sense.

Sorry kabar ousted you for having a heat treat issue. That seems unpolite on all fronts to me.

Wow man, that's awesome!

I would've thought that it was an expensive "special" opinel.

How did you go about doing that? Just a cigarette lighter?

I've got some burn marks in mine but for a different reason; it just so happens that being sharply stamped out of steel, the backs of Opinels make decent fire strikers, I do it with the blade closed for obvious safety reasons.
